The show had promise, but the comment about the lack of chemistry was VERY true. Bubbly Bertinelli and neurotic lawyer? Neither characters nor actors seem to be right. Bertinelli in both Sydney and Cafe never had full support of the network... both shows had lousy time slots. Did it ever jump? NO. The wedding would have killed a second season either way and would have been the "defining moment" had it not been in the series' finale.
I have always liked Valerie Bertinelli, but I have to be objective and say this sitcom was not funny. The was no chemistry between VB and future Broadway star Craig Bierko. It wasn't as bad as "Anything But Love," (which had undeserved moderate success due to scheduling) but the writing was not up to snuff. Her next show, "Cafe Americain" was much better and should've had a chance. Oh, and Valerie is NOT the female Ted McGinley. That would be MARY PAGE KELLER!! (SEVEN sitcoms, including "Emeril". She should have stuck with daytime dramas.)
This show jumped the shark when it had Van Halen's song as the THEME SONG.. Finished What you Started...WEak
I remember seeing the commercials or previews for this show, when I was a kid, and I swear almost every other week, they would say "Don't miss, this VERY SPECIAL SYDNEY". It was so sugary it would make you sick because everything that happened on that show even if it was only the little girl loosing her baby doll, it was some tragic event and was called "A very special Sydney."
I'm afraid not, moron before me. Valerie Bertinelli the Evita of sitcoms. Beloved by all.
FROM DAY ONE!!! VALERIE BERTINELLI IS THE FEMALE TED MCGINLEY!!!
