That's what I said back in 2003. 3's A Crowd went down the toilet because it was not that good anyway.
The problem for me was the fact that Jack went gaga for this girl almost immediately after years of womanizing and avoiding commitment, which leads me to think he was lonely after losing Janet and was on the rebound. It was sad to see a grown man once again living in terror of an authority figure, first Roper and Furley, then Vickie's father. John Ritter should have said no to this one.
John Ritter had stated that in season two of the show they were going to get married (Jack and Vickie) and that Stuart Pankin was set to join the cast. The show, incidentally, wasn't canceled per say. The network wanted to order 13 episodes to see how they fared. John Ritter insisted on a full season or nothing. He got nothing.
Let's see, Three's Company stayed about four seasons too long, so let's stretch that premise out EVEN FURTHER with Three's a Crowd. Brilliant! Were any of us really shocked to discover the '80s were a period of rampant drug abuse in Hollywood?
I think Vicky is very pretty. She's got a great look, but her attitude to just live with Jack instead of marrying him just ruined the whole romance they could have had. Vicky was no Janet, nor Chrissy, nor Cindy, nor Terry. Her attitude towards just living with Jack while having sexual relations with him was just the opposite attitude of any of Jack's other female room-mates. Vicky, for all intents and purposes, was less pure then any of Jack's former female room-mates, certainly not someone I would want as a role model for girls.
I watched Three's Company during the original airing, probably not all the way back to the 1st season, but I watched it to the end of Three's a Crowd and as a kid I kept thinking Vicky's "living together" attitude was the worst thing that ever happened to Three's Company. That's what I feel was the moment the show jumped the shark.
Jack was now a mature man, he was now a businessman and he wanted to get married. That's how Three's Company should have ended. It should have ended with a happy ending for all 5 of the cast members, but I guess it's pointless to say this more then 20 years later.

Having Larry on the show? Hmmmm...no, by that time Jack and Larry were both ready to hang up their batchelor's spikes and they and every other character on that show were tired. The whole "misunderstanding" thing was played out by 1982. But Larry was a great part of that show and does not get the credit he deserves. Neither does Janet. If Chrissy had stayed on, the show would have been a lot funnier, but probably would have run for the same amount of time.
You know the one thing I dont understand is how people can piss and complain that THREE'S A CROWD was a ripoff of an British show called Robyn's Nest. Yet people praise THREE'S COMPANY, don't you people realise that was also a copy of another English program called MAN ABOUT THE HOUSE. Personally I liked the show even if it was below par when compared to its predecessor.
Horrible show! Should never have been! Jumped BEFORE Day One - jumped when they dreamed this stupid program up during the closing episodes of Three's Company. This show is a disgrace to the memory of John Ritter!
Mary Cadorette was lovely but there was definitely no spark between her character and John Ritter's -- you're supposed to be ACTORS, people!!! It's always nice to see her on old $25,000 Pyramids and Super Passwords, though.

Hopefully, people will eventually learn that putting characters into a brand new show doesn't work (have we learned nothing from Mayberry RFD, Joey, AfterMASH, and that Sandy Duncan thing in the 70s). John Ritter was the coolest! But, after 7 or 8 years of pratfalls, mugging, etc. he got to be a close-to-middle-age Jerry Lewis. The schtick got old. And that Vicki was the most tepid actress on tv. I saw no sparks there. Not at all.
Great theme song. After that, well, just a cheap attempt to cash in on Three's Company's good name. By 1984, though, TC didn't really have much of a good name left. One can only take so many "overheard part of a conversation, misunderstood what we heard, hilarity ensues, but everything works out in the end" plots. So trying it with a weaker premise and weaker characters is pretty much asking for doom. At least it had a great theme song.
