TV Funhouse never jumped! Robert Smigel is beyond talented and hilariously offensive! Watching SNL, I always look forward to the TV Funhouse segments so, this show was right up my alley. No having to suffer through a sub par episode of SNL just to see the Ambiguously Gay Duo or whatever hilarious cartoon they might show. This is one of those great shows that didn't stand a chance on cancel happy Comedy Central. A dvd release is needed!
The cross dressing kangaroo skit had me on the floor for 5 minutes. I was laughing so hard that I couldn't stop, and my dog was licking my face because he didn't know what was wrong with me. I want this on DVD, that, and the Wonder Years!
This show was incredible. Even though it had a very short run, I think it left an impression. I wish I could find this on DVD, so I can somebday show my kids that a show this funny actually existed.
I loved the "Mischevious Mitchell" sketch, and of course the animated short of Stedman. The 2 part Atlantic City episode was great as well.
Anybody know if this is slated to be released on DVD?

I still can't believe this show was on the air. Great tv comedy shows made me laugh out loud, but never uncontrollably to the point of wiping away tears. Never. Then TV Funhouse came along. The cartoons were okay, but the anipals were pure comic genius. Makes sense that the show had a brief, brilliant life, like a candle in the wind, or like Dave the endangered male lizard.
I admit, I liked TV Funhouse. Not all the bits were funny, but the whole was fun. And I think it could have lasted a few seasons at least. Except, for no widely apparent reason, Comedy Central played it A LOT. And while some of the shows were enjoyable...they weren't enjoyable enough to watch 5 times a week, or even 5 times a month.
This is the funniest show ever made. Too bad it's gone now, never to come back. I can't believe anyone thinks SNL is a "comedy" show. It's more like an action movie what with all the bombing. SNL hasn't been funny since Andy Kaufman. The funniest moment ever on TV Funhouse (BTW, wasn't the full name of the show "Cartoon TV Funhouse?") and therefore the funniest moment in the history of TV was when the Anipals went to eat at the "Eat What You Are Restaurant". The cat was eating cat, the dog, dog, the turtle, turtle, and so on. A wonderful joke about using animals to personify humans in cartoons and other stories. At the end of dinner, the lobster hasn't touched his lobster. The cat asks him, "You aren't hungry?" "Nah," he responds, "I think I'll get a doggie bag." Later on in the episode, the lobster takes his lobster meal out of the tray (and it's a full lobster) and puts it on his bed. Then he starts making love to his lobster dinner. He's saying all sorts of intimate things and moaning. And then the turtle, who travels through the sewer popping in and out of toilets, walks out of the lobster's bedroom bathroom to discover he's making love to his dinner from earlier that day. The most awkward embarrassment of all time thus ensues. How funny was TV Funhouse? It is the standard by which all comedy shall be measured from this point forward.
TV Funhouse is comedy crack! Totally out there and hilarious, especially if you are a Smigel fan. I laughed my ass off every time xabu came up with some inane plan to catch his tail.
TV Funhouse was one of the most warped things I've ever seen on TV. The show was excellent from start to finish, the little cartoons and skits were really bizarre and funny. The Anipals were the best characters on TV, I loved how they ditched Doug at the beginning of every episode and did crazy stuff, like hardcore drugs and ripping limbs off. Unlike most shows, the last episode was the best. A whole hour featuring Triumph the Comic Dog can't be beat, his song Underage Bichon was side-splitting. "This New Years, I resolve to stop eating my own poop." "This year I resolve to kill a celebrity" (shows the duck smothering an old man) "Bob Hope doesn't count!"
Man,TV Funhouse was hilarious! I loved every single episode, from the first one with Whiskers the cats sister having the kittens and the puppy(one of the funniest scenes from the entire run) to the last one where they become lab test victims(the scene where the panda exploded from the Chinese firecracker made me piss myself laughing). I really wish the folks at Comedy Central made it run longer, though Crank Yankers isn't that bad.
Boy did this sick, twisted and wonderfully surreal show NEVER, EVER jump. Not even close to the ramp. In some ways I'm glad Comedy Central pulled the plug. You can only push this sort of show so far until it gets old and tired. As for people talking about it being tasteless for tasteless' sake, I strongly disagree. I remember fondly watching each episode from week to week, laughing my ass off and wondering, "How did they get away with this?" A brilliant show destined to get cancelled from the first episode. I really wish I taped it. With all that said, a second season probably would of jumped.
Sorry guys, I don't mind naughty humor, but in this instance it was all naughty and no humor. About the only thing I did like about this sad ass series was Whiskers, the Anipal cat. But again, I'm a cat person.....
The puppets were okay, but I looooooooved the animation! The Oprah and Stedman skit will always be on my mind!
This show was the sharpest dark comedy to air since the debut of South Park. Disgusting? Absolutely, and in the most hilarious, intelligent, and creatively valid way. The same short-sightedness that killed the other outstanding Comedy Central show of recent years, the Upright Citizens Brigade, has apparently snuffed out another glimmer of greatness in it's infancy. We can only hope it gets collected on a DVD somewhere like the snuffed Clerks cartoon series was. This show seriously needs to remain available to us all.
Oh, how I miss this show. It was clearly superior to Greg The Bunny, which had its debut last night, and was pretty funny, but would never have come about if it didn't have the shoulders of TV Funhouse to stand on. The anipals were sick and perverted and I loved 'em for it! I can't shake the image of Rocky the fish helping the folks at the bakery by rolling all over the cookies and even "decorating" a birthday cake. Part of the show's charm was the fact that the puppeteers didn't try too hard to stay off camera.
