Another network in the tank for Obama.
ABC News has consistently been the worst. It's bad enough that the whole network has to constantly shill Disney related movies and theme parks. They air more biased hit pieces written by special interest groups than any other news outlet. I hate press release journalism.
"World News" jumped back over with the arrival of Charles Gibson as the anchorman. I think that he's much more interesting than Katie and Brian. The way I see it is, if something important happens, it's best to hear of it from Charlie. He reports what's happening in a straight-up, honest manner-- he doesn't try to be the news, like Katie did before.
I'm glad I stopped idolizing Peter Jennings. I hate the way he dresses. He has to make damn sure he always looks his best. I hate it the worst when he wears dark suits with one of his designer ties. I also hate the fact that he speaks regular (out of the dictionary) American English. For Pete's sake, don't be afraid to be yourself (I wish I could though). He should have known better not to smoke either. He had a youthful image going but I hate his ass anyway. At least Gibson worries less about his attire and worries about the news. After all, an anchorman's job is to only report the news, right?
I'm sure this is going to sound insensitive and will lead to a litany of hateful responses, but I think it needs to be said...even if it was true, and I sincerely doubt it was, I thought Peter Jennings' claim to have picked up smoking again only as a result of 9/11 was incredibly self-serving. Why did he feel the need to contextualize his cancer? As a cancer survivor myself, I can say with some confidence that there should be no shame attached to the disease. But because smoking has been linked to lung cancer and because so much negativity has been attached to smokers over the years, his statement implied that he only gave in to a moment of weakness during a national tragedy, and that he shouldn't be held responsible for "falling off the wagon". As if lifetime smokers who get lung cancer should be ashamed of themselves. I honestly don't think that his image would have taken a hit if he just said that he contracted lung cancer and left it at that. People would have properly felt for him and wished him well. But he seemed so bent on maintaining an infallible image that his 9/11 smoking link seemed forced and cynical. There, I've said it.
ABC World News Tonight. Friday, August 11, 2006 Jumped and Insulted many at the same time. Details at eleven! Person of the Week segment has been traditionally dedicated to someone special, someone who has achieved something. Someone who puts others first, someone special. But, not today! Nope. Today we insult every hard working, inspired, dedicated, selfless, striving individual ever honored as a Person of the Week. Today, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a first, a new low in broadcasting excellence, a vapid excercise in pandering. No, instead of someone of superior accumen, we have a cartoon. A CARTOON! Three hundred million people in the U.S. and ABC News picks a MUPPET! Foam, fuzz, buzz, and dazzle. Madison Avenue in the News. Contrived convenience, why interview a person making a difference? Just show some Henson Frankenstien. Besides instead of editing some production footage why not just slap together some clips prepared for PBS Kids is US hour. Dumb. Shark bait. I thought the adults had returned to ABC News with the old Charlie Gibson. I thought wrong. We needed credibility, stability, maturity. We got lazy. We need DO SOMETHING. Shark Alert! Bring back Vargas, at least she's gestating! At least she knows what to do when she's been F**KED.
Saw Elizabeth Vargas tonight reporting on the Bob Woodruff story and thought, this seemingly, just a pretty face, has come into her own. As far as Woodruff is concerned, the first step for him and his family is to recover. But following that, if he can return to the anchor position, as much as we Americans love brave heroes.....I see that a star may be born!
I've just heard that Elizabeth Vargas & Bob Woodruff are the new World News Tonight co-anchors. These two are very inexperienced compared to Charles Gibson. Perhaps this is a desperate attempt to get the younger generation interested in the evening newscasts? What next, Kanye West as White House correspondent?
When Peter Jennings died. Oh and by the way I'm very conservative and never found him offensive. I always considered Jennings to be a very likable and down to earth type of guy. His loss will definitely be felt the world over.
Rest in peace in the memory of Peter Jennings. WNT will never be the same, and the Big Three of Brokaw, Rather, and Jennings are no more.
WNT Jumped the Shark when Peter Jennings passed away of lung cancer. I've prayed for him. He'll be missed.
The show has now JTS because Peter Jennings has died. Weird that in the last 9 months, all three of the main nightly news anchors are gone. I don't know how right-wingers are reacting right now. Hopefully, they're mourning, but based on the rude comments about Mr. Jennings on this site, there are some who are most likely rejoicing that another member of the "liberal media" has gone to live with Satan. Pfff...I'll remember Peter as a wise, dry-humored, intelligent gentleman who was a joy to watch, more neighbor than newscaster, and certainly not as "smug" or "arrogant" as other posters on here claim. I sure hope Charlie Gibson is the new anchor, so he can get off that Entertainment Tonight-ripoff called Good Morning America. Godspeed Peter, RIP
I watch this show because I am amused at seeing how arrogant Peter Jennings is. This guy thinks he's the cock of the walk. From the ersatz British accent to the eye rolling when mentioning "Mr. Bush's" policies , Jennings comes off pompous, self serving and smug. He also displays a bias for any and all things New York. A couple of weeks ago a significant story broke that there were terrorist threats against Los Angeles targets. It didn't even make Jennings broadcast. Suppose that was New York? It would be the biggest story since sliced bread. And while I'm on this tangent, does anyone think he look like that blue animal on sesame street with the pointy ears and the frown? "Many thanks Cokie Roberts"
When veteran anchorman and all-around class act Frank Reynolds died in 1983.
Frank Reynolds has been dead almost 20 years...but I still miss him. Not only did WNT jump the shark but I think the whole industry jumped the shark!
