Never Jumped
The New Addams Family
The Movie
Evil Twin (Morticia and Ophelia)
Day One
Shark Bytes
Aw, this show wasn't on long enough to jump. Just two seasons, and during the same two seasons as the Munster's. That's tough. The Munster's had the better car, but, the Addams' had more money. And the fire between Gomez and Morticia--well, Gomez was totally my role model! Totally never jumped.
I'll take the old sixties series anytime. In the movies they are made out to be evil, whereas in the series they were creepy and all, but wouldnt have hurt anybody for the world.
I never really liked it either. Always thought the Munsters were much funnier. And scoping out Marilyn didn't hurt either. To each his own.
You know, I just never liked it. I've tried to like it, and I can give it a little chuckle every now and then, but that is it. The movies were much better.
It's rare (or unheard of really) when a great and creative show like the Addams Family is also made into a great and creative movie.
Carolyn Jones and John Astin were perfectly cast as Morticia and Gomez, as were Anjelica Houston and Raul Julia in the movie versions. The supporting players were well-cast as well.
Never, ever jumped!

And bits and pieces of inspiration from ABC's "The Addams Family"were also evident in OTHER series as well-In "Gilligan's Island"the color episode "Not Guilty",(watch the episode and you'll know what I'm talking about),in the "F Troop" episode "The Great Troop Robbery",in the scene when trooper Dobbs is tied up while being interrogated, says to Capt.Parmenter who objects,"Oh,that's okay,Captain. In fact,I even volunteered for it." in a"Green Acres"episode from the last two seasons,Mr.Haney says to Lisa,"Gosh,Oh,Hemlock,Mrs.Douglas.You sure look pretty this morning." ,in an episode of "The Doris Day Show","How Can I Ignore the Man Next Door?",Myrna Gibbon (Rose Marie)suggests using Hemlock(poison) to get rid of Jarvis, and on "Mama's Family",when the Harper's have to babysit Rev.Meacham's bratty son.(Especially watch the scene where Mama tells bratty little Eugene her twisted bedtime story,(like Morticia's twisted tales in the very good second season episode when writes a book)The person who said it was great and daring for the time(mid 1960's)wasn't kidding. It was also WAY ahead of its time, and although it came close a few times,NEVER JUMPED THE SHARK.
In the two seasons it was on ABC,"The Addams Family"NEVER JUMPED,although it came close sometimes ,but,as I said, thanks to good,(sometimes bizarre)funny plots, and good acting, never did.But I cannot put my finger on it,but something seemed different about the second season (1965-1966)episodes.And a couple of questions::Did Charles Addams' original comics that appeared in The New Yorker ,and according to a book I have called "Total Television"had characters that had no names, include characters Cousin Itt (a more-than-welcome addition, that made the series even more bizarre),or Ophelia(so-so)?And a final question:To those who saw the movies, were characters Cousin Itt and Ophelia included or were they just on the TV series? And to the poster below, who mentioned "F Troop",remember in the very good first season episode where Lurch, the butler learns to dance, his instructor was a woman named "Miss O'Rourke".Coincidence, huh?
Never jumped, a hilarious show, much better than the "Munsters" The opening, with the song, the finger-snapping, was brilliant. The Addams lived perfectly happily in their own bizarro world, that made perfect sense to them. As someone mentioned, Morticia was hot! Not hard to believe that her and Gomez had an interesting and very active sex life, I can only imagine the various devices they had in the "playroom" They did have kids, but rarely did they have Wednesday or Puggsley [great name!] the focus of an episode, this was a show adults could enjoy as well.
Why in the world did ABC pull the plug on this and F Troop, after only 2 years? Both were terrific comedies.

Mortisha. Carolyn Jones was just damn sexy. A tight black cocktail dress and jet black hair was all that the guys needed to make sure that their butts were planted in place for a half hour every week. She even made other women hot. Kind of an Angelina Jolie of her time.
Atomik, you're overreacting. It's just about TV shows.I have that book too. You're RIGHT but that's no reason to attack someone.Otherwise, this show(great!)and The Munsters(good)were clearly rivals on rival networks. The show covered in this part of the website was more sophisticated than the other one, which was more "cartoonish".Wow,the start and cancel dates were that close. No coincidence.
As I said, the show NEVER JUMPED,although it came close ,but never did.And it was really an imaginative series.Example:In the second season Halloween episode "Halloween,Addams Style"(1965)it has in the beginning ,the opening scene from "Halloween with the Addams Family",(1964)a first season gem with Don Rickles cast against type as the reluctant assistamt(no,not the nastermind)to a crook who was going to rob the Addamses'.Did anyone else notice this?
