Pepe, I couldn't agree more with you! Well put!
I watched 1 season, the Fantasia season, and that was enough for me. This show blows in so many ways: (1) The 3 judges: no-talent Randy, See No Evil Paula and Simon the Grouch (2) Constantly keeping the audience in suspense w/ cuts to commercials at the critical moment and teasing the contestants w/ false leading sentences (3) Randy's catch-phrase of "pitchy" (4) The overhyped up audience of dopey female teenagers (5) Ryan Seacrest in general (6) The groveling for fame by the contestants (7) a highly flawed audience voting system (8) The cookie cutter approach of "owning" the winner
America's favorite televised karaoke.
To Audra Coart: what happened to all you mentioned? drugs. The idiot cowards gave their life ( and death) to drugs. You get what you deserve in this world.
To Audra Coart: You are probably too young to have seen the "Pips," but the dance routine that Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. did with Gladys Knight was an imitation of the one the Pips did with her.

It was exactly as they did it, and those three looked so comical imitating each move, the way they were supposed to look.
To spend so much time comparing the live performance here to bands like The Who or say Albert Alyer or Big Bands playing 6-8 hours with 3 singers rotating and then signing autographs and even going to breakfast with fans is a waste of time. The kids don't know any better and true stars like Cash at Folsom before the drugs took over too much and he went country and lost t. But to pay the Panel what a Billion a year wow no wonder there is so much severe poverty in the world when no-talents get this amont and someone should get to hit Randy with a bat everytime he says dawg. None of the singers mean anything to me per se- it's like an inexpensive cruise ship band- so I can't get into the competition. Where are the performers like Otis when he was at Monterey?
I think the show jumped the shark from day one. I have been in the radio business for years and American Idol is nothing more than glorified karoake with corporations stuffing their pockets with the rewards of this pathetic show. I now know that the future of music looks quite dismal and bleak. Where's the days of originators like Cobain, Pearl Jam, and all the other musical genises? Manufactured music = manufactured society. Also, catching a glimpse this year while quickly channel surfing through, I saw Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. doing a horrific dance routine to Gladys Knight! Appalling! I can see Ben Stiller and Jack Black, but the infamous Robert Downey Jr? My image has been permanently changed for the actor that exuded such cool and charismatic behavior though flawed, back in the days of Less than Zero and The Pick-up Artist! What happened to him? Pathetic, the 80's icon would never have made a fool of himself like that. American Idol = one word: Sell-out!!!
I'll tell you where Taylor Hicks is now appearing. He headlined at the Watertown Fairgrounds in Watertown, NY!!! If you don't know where that is, don't worry. Neither does anyone else. I think he opened for some Alabama tribute band or the Edgar Winter Group Reunion Tour, or something. Tickets cost less than a value meal at McDonald's, and was less satisfying.

And folks, it's American Karaoke, not American Idol. That's all this is.
I agree with Cheese E Biscuit. How about Mick Jagger? Your lips are the size of innertubes, you wont make it. Elton John: You have split teeth, noone will buy your records..Janis Joplin? They would consider her like the idiots who come on as a gag, they would laugh her off stage. Robert Plant: You have this odd whiney sound....Rod Stewert You have too much of a raspy voice. And how about Fats Domino? lol We can go on and on, but we see the pattern. The best way to make it to the top is to earn your way there. Play dives like the Beatles did, earn your way to the top. This Idol thing is nothing but a money making gimmick. They dont give a crap what happens to these people after the tour is over. For instance...what happened to Taylor Hicks? Oh he is out making money, but where at is anyones guess. Same as Archuleta will be in about 15 minutes.
I HATE SIMON! HE IS THE BIGGEST EGOTISTICAL JACK*** IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! HE GIVES THE BRITISH A BAD NAME!
In a nutshell, it's just a televised karaoke. In which one person is the winner. You either like it, don't, or like it and later grow tired of it.
My criticism of American Idol is simply this: I imagine, in my mind, Simon grilling some of my heroes from the past:
1.50's-era Elvis: "You move around too much on stage".
2.1964-era Dylan: "What a horrible voice! And your song choice is way too political".
3.1975-era Springsteen: "Horrible voice and your song is too depressing".
4.1977-era Stevie Nicks: "My God! Who let HER in here? Come back when you can sing!"
5.1980's-era Tom Petty: "You can't sing! YOU'LL NEVER make it in show business!"
And on and on- Here's a list:
1.Madonna
2.Paula Abdul
3.Cindy Lauper
4.Jennifer Lopez
Four women, average (or worse) singers who would have NEVER,EVER made it in the music business if it weren't for MTV...this show is for SELLOUTS ONLY.
A show to determine the best lounge singer in America, and that's about it.
You dont get it. They dont give a damn if you feel the last show or 2 is 1/2 hour too long. They need that extra 30 minutes to sell commercials to pay the insane salaries of the 3 judges and Seacrest. Simon Cowells salary for Idol is $36,000,000 a season. Thats right 36 million dollars, and that doesnt include private jets constantly flying him from England to America, limo service, a driver, probably a bodyguard, dinner perks and many other things. He earned over $42,000,000 overall, and he was worth over $60,000,000 before this season. He is filthy filthy rich. He sits there laughing all the way to the bank. Paula and Randy make over 8 million a year from Idol and God knows what they pay Seacrest. So, they have to bleed every commercial for what they can squeeze out of them.
Am I the only one who thinks that the weekly results show is a half-hour too long. I will reluctantly give them the benefit of the doubt when many of the final twelve contestants remain!! But enough is enough when they get down to the final let's say 3 to 7 contestants. At this point in the competition a half an hour is ample time for Seacrest to jerk everyone around...telling all of us the results are coming soon and such!!
I'm surprised the season after William Hung when people started intentionally coming to the initial auditions just so they could get their masochistic rocks off by getting Simon to rip them a new one. I hate how now on the early shows, so many people come to the auditions wearing lame costumes singing over-the-top broadway show tunes, stuff that everyone knows they would ever pick to move on to the next round. They should just stop putting on such auditions where the person is just making a desperate attempt to be on TV.
