If there is ever a Captain Kangaroo DVD release, the PSA with Mr. Moose getting his shots should be included. When the Captain reminds Mr. Moose of all the diseases he could get if he didn't get innoculated, Mr. Moose yells, "I WANT MY SHOTS!" Classic. Of course, medical research has since revealed that childhood vaccinations are linked to autism, but what does the scientific community know?
Chris,
I honestly can't imagine that you're waiting with baited breath to see this thing released on DVD. You would seriously sit around and watch it? Why?
I have nothing against Bob Keeshan--this was a quite innocuous, albeit major, part of many kids' lives. But let's face it, in the early 60s (when I watched it), it was a way to give Mom (no daycare or stay-at-home-Dads in those days) a break from the kids. Nothing educational to speak of, certainly nothing offensive, it was a soporific pre-Benadryl.
So, no offense to the Captain. He did try to teach us manners (which many lack today). I guess I just think it could have been better--he could have led the Sesame Street era rather than be led by it.

I grew up watching this show in the mid 1970`s and really wish It would be released on DVD.
I have alot of great memories of The Captain, Mr. Green Jeans, Dennis, Mr. Moose, Bunny, The Town Clown, The Toothbrush Family, Slim Goodbody and the gang.

I remember the little people that lived behind the books! I loved that part of the show. I used to pretend I had little people in my bookshelves too. They did have thread spools and campbell soup cans for their "decor"... You aren't crazy afterall!
Don't think Marvo used any batteries at all.
I distinctly remember the commercial for Marvo the Mustang- can still hear the tune in my head.
Oh, Marvo, the Mustang
He's almost for real
Just saddle him up
With spurs on your heels
No winding
No batteries (small child's voice says, "What horse do?")
Marvo the Mustang, do we love you
Hee!

IIRC, this show aired on PBS from 1986-93, and it would air in either the morning or mid to late afternoon.
I know that WSBE (RI PBS) aired it at 9 AM right before Mr. Rogers.
(Not so sure if WGBH aired the Captain's reruns or did they bypass them)
I never realized that they were showing reruns of the last 7 years of programs (1977-84), mixed in with new segments hosted by Keeshan himself.
For some reason I have a faint memory of seeing this, Although I could tell that the Captain wanted to reclaim his glory days, and looked as if he didn't want to host a recap show of segments he already did years beforehand.
Otherwise, CK never jumped the shark!!!!!

I have been looking and looking for the version of Tommy Toothbrush from Captain Kangaroo. What I do remember is:
"Who's in the bathroom waiting on the shelf?"....
"Tommy Tooooth-brush 'em up, brush 'em up, brush 'em up, brush'em up".
I always cried over "The Littlest Snowman With the Red Candy Heart" and I still hum,."I'm a Lonely Little Petunisa in an Onion Patch".
I LOVED that magic drawing board.."And the green grass grew all around all around and the green grass grew all around."
They should put "The Best Of" segments of the early shows on DVD.

I watched from 1968 to 1978, so I remember the old treasure house with the doors opening and closing at the opening, and the jingling keys...and I continued through the red coat/Debbie/Good Morning Captain song, and still enjoyed it.
After viewing two episodes (the same ones another poster mentioned)that i bought online...i was fascinated by how slow moving the show was.
I also recently watched the original SESAME STREET from 1969, and it was very slow to me now, too. Just shows how we get used to jump cuts and a faster pace.
Let me close by thanking the late Bob Keeshan for many hours of childhood happiness. It is sad to me that people just a few years younger than I have no idea who the Captain is.

the coz kicks a** with his PhD & his whole world views + pic pages - that pen alone is worth it! i wish i had that pen
Karen Evans- I went onto ask.com to find out the words to the 'brush your teeth, round and round' song!! It came up with this website and your byte. I sing that song to my 3 year old every night and now she's singing it. I don't remember where it is from- is it from Captain Kangaroo? I was pretty on target with the same words you had! Thanks
I totally remember those people who lived in the bookshelf and have been asking people for years if anyone remembers them. Thanks for proving i haven't lost my mind!
Anybody know how much the Captain weighed or how tall he was?? I need to know for a project. Thanks!
Does anyone remember that song about brushing your teeth? Brush your teeth...round and round...circle small...gums and all...a small, soft toothbrush the round and round way...will keep your gums healthy, and stop tooth decay...so brush very carefully...three times a day...go round and round, round and round! I would REALLY like to hear that again! Anyone know where to find it?
Ican remember Captain Kangaroo back in the '50s-it must have been because I was born back in 1050, and although I don't remember anything specific taht he did I remember it was a very gentle quiet show. A lot of kids shows back then(and later were loud cheap and violent and it was comforting to see something that wasn't.
