It jumped for me when they added Shrieky. No-Heart went from being the Magnificent Bastard (at least to a 10-year-old) to the grumpy upstaged uncle. But like I said, that's just me.
I LOVE CARE BEARS WHO EVER DISLIKES THEM CAN SUCK IT OKAY......
AND THEY SHOULD REALLY PUT THEM BACK ON T.V.

I'm absolutely embarassed by the fact that I loved this show as a kid. Absolutely stupid show and ridiculous at best. At least they teach values to kids.
The birth of my daughter plunged me into Care a Lot.
All I can say is that the DIC episodes are focused more on the Care Bears interacting with humans and helping them. Though the Care Bears were always entirely commercial, I still feel that it was DIC and not Nelvana that "got it", if there was something to get.
Nelvana spends far more time defining Care a Lot and telling stories about Care Bears interacting with other Care Bears.
The first episode is by far the most on key story of the Care Bears (DIC, obviously). Youtube it perhaps, it's very defining.

OK, so the Care Bears might look a little lacking (in some ways) compared to contemporaneous shows like Duck Tales and Teddy Ruxpin, but they're better than watchable and I'm currently having a blast watching Care Bears on YouTube. I'm going to drop some money on Care Bears DVDs, no s---! Of the two Care Bears cartoons series, I definitely think that the Nelvana [later] episodes were the best. The animation was better, the writing was better, and the villains were awesome!! No Heart, Shreeky, and especially Beastly are pretty much what *made* that show.
Those sissy bears should have ate them stupid kids not try to teach them lessons about friendship and caring. Come on you wimpy bears grow some sack!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm nearly 25 and I still enjoy watching the Care Bears episodes available on youtube.com. The Nelvana series greatly transcends its DIC predecessor as the animation and the villains (especially NoHeart and Beastly) were both superior to those found in DIC. Because Tenderheart was the stuffed bear I had, it pained me when his role decreased in significance. However, the drivel of the 90's and on really sucks and this franchise was one of the last true bastions of great animation and storytelling.
When a Care Bear looked through binoculars and, instead of seeing the field of view as circular, it was heart-shaped! Not exactly a JTS moment, but too much to bear.
As a child growing up on watching the good old Disney Channel in Dominica, the Care Bears was one of my favourite shows, and no doubt about that! When the channel stopped airing the episodes and gave them to Toon Disney, I was disappointed, and hence my love for those fuzzy, furry bears dissipated all together, except when the movies aired once in a blue moon on Showtime, Starz!/Encore, and The Movie Channel. Then, one October afternoon in 2004, I saw an ad on Nickelodeon promoting their first film in 17 years, and I couldn't wait to see it! When it came on Disney two months later, I enjoyed every last part of the film, but I was thrown off by the Bears' appearances in the new 3D medium! It's a shame that a lot of our favourite things about the 80's show are missing--the Care Bear Stare, the Cousins, Hugs, Tugs and Grams, and the villains. It gets worse from here: Funshine's a boy instead of a girl, two Bears (Share and Champ) have changed their looks, and the characters speak as though they were toddlers! And, worst of all, the residents of the title place, Joke-a-lot, are scary and not that familiar to look at. This hurts all former reputation of the famous 2D cartoon characters. Look at any fan fiction on sites devoted to the Bears, and you'll hope Nelvana (the studio behind much of their popularity) picks up one for the creatures' next adventure in Care-a-lot. Just pray, too, that, this time, the animation will be at least traditional! Despite this stumbling block to the franchise, I am more than ever a fan of the Bears, and part of this joyride includes writing this shark-jumper. I hope to see the episodes on TV all over again in my island soon!
Seeing so many comments i had to add my two cents... First of all Care Bears rule, i'm not ashamed to admit i was obsessed with the second movie when i was a kid. My mom and dad love to rub it in that i use to chant the "We Care" fervently to save Christy at the end. Sadly i had little opportunity to see the show, though i did see a few on tape... FIRST THOUGH I think it's stupid to compare pure Care Bears to the Space Care Bears and other such nonsense which was clearly different shows, just as talking about when/if the Original Star Trek jumped has nothing to do with talking about when/if ST:DS9 jumped. SECOND the cousins ruled, my favorite has and always be Swiftheart Rabbit, the cousins allowed celebration of different kinds of kids. Braveheart Lion was the courageous, look before you leap give it your all type. Lot-a-Heart? well pretty self explanatory, the kid who seems to defy expectation, just when you think you've figured out how strong they are they pull off and surprise you exc. CARE BEARS IN NO WAY RESEMBLES BARNEY OR TELETUBBIES teletubbies is mindless trash that, it doesn't strive to teach anything, and consists exclusively of flashy images and often unintelligible noise. Barney while trying to teach something is surround by a bunch of kids much to old to be screwing around with an imaginary dinosaur they imagine to exist within a plushie. Plus the conflict in Barney is none existent, yes love and caring all around, but there will never be any conflict, no one out there doesnt care BULL Care Bears taught kids, yes people (villians) can be mean, and often times don't care about others feelings, but we should still care about them, and help protect others from them (can anyone say anti-bully) It teaches kids to share their feelings, and that sometimes people aren't really just mean, sometimes they have problems that we can help solve. shows like Care Bears are sorely needed... I would be pleased to see their reemergence if the darn people would leave the original bears alone. Make as many new ones as you want, but don't changing MY Care Bears (what are those things on Share Bears belly anyway, blue classes terribly with Champ Bears emblem, and how can their be a Care Bear that promotes the United States *lives in the U.S.* they are about every one caring about everyone else regardless of differences, that can't allow for cultural favoritism... just a few of too many complaints i suppose)
The Care Bears Family ruled, NELVANA DROOLED!! The Care Bears Family series was actually very good on ABC during the first season. I was in Care Bear heaven the entire year--especially when they re-introduced Grams Bear (remember that episode? She had her own Harley D and played electric guitar!!) Alas, the fun and games were to end. While Nelvana took their best writers (Peter Sauder being chief among them) and had them work on a craptastic one-shot called "My Pet Monster", they decided to update the character premises yet again, kidnap four of the Care Bears Family members (2 Bears, 2 Cousins), and made Champ Bear, Cheer Bear, Bright Heart Raccoon and Treat Heart Pig into RAGING STEREOTYPICAL (50's style) TEENAGERS!!! The good hearted jock, the perky cheerleader, the shy nerdy intelligent bookworm, and the overweight good-hearted best friend. How insulting and condescending can you possibly be to your audience?!! That, plus (in syndication--the writers couldn't stop themselves) "Cave Care Bears" and "Space Care Bears" (apologies to Star Trek for ripping off The Original Series) put my favorite cartoon firmly on the ramp to ruin. *SOB* Goodbye, my childhood; the shark, she is jumped!!
Never EVER say such awful things about Ren and Stimpy or Beavis and Butthead EVER again. I grew up with those two shows. I watched them all the time! Ren and Stimpy shaped my life, but Beavis and Butthead gave me that thrill of watching a show that was for big kids. Anyway, Care Bears didn't give me that feeling at all. I made fun of it, but I also enjoyed it. I saw it when it aired right next to Gummi Bears (with those other colorful bears that bounced instead of doing good deeds). This show jumped for me the same day I stopped watching it. There wasn't anything wrong with the show, I just lost interest. I grew out of it. It wasn't that good to begin with. I moved on from Care Bears/Gummi Bears to Smurfs/Snorks.
