My mother loved this show. I hated it. I was one of the few at my school who hated disco, so having a TV blow celebrating it was doomed to be on my bad side.

However, it got even stupider in the early '80s when it tried to "go country!"
There's simply no explanation for this one...a disco show that lasted into the late '80s. Huh?
Jumped the minute Denny Terrio left.
Funny thing was that disco was already half dead when this show came out but it managed to last for several years.
Enjoyable fluff - nothing more nothing less.
Was the brother / sister team you are looking for wearing light blue (western looking?) bodysuits and were they from Vegas? Was she tiny with blonde hair? I think they filmed the same day as my partner and I filmed our episode in the summer of 1980.
We were from Detroit and wore red cowboy outfits and danced to Paul McCartney's "Coming up." We wanted to do our Donna Summer routine but the show did not have the rights to use her music. :( We were on with a couple from Hawaii and a couple from Chicago. The couple from Hawaii won . . . KC, Ruth Buzzi and Fred Dryer were judges and Sylvester was the guest performer.
We had a great time and I got to stand next to Merv during one of the tapings.
Anyway, by the time we filmed Disco was on it's way out and Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" was on its way in. The western phase was also gaining popularity and bars were featuring country line-dancing and mechanical bulls.
The Disco days (like the sixties) were a crazy time that can never be duplicated. I enjoyed them to the fullest - and lived to tell about it!
im looking for the same brother sister team to pretty young thing but they were featured on star search after eddie and lisa won...i think they were mark and julie...she wore a tuxedo body suit and had short blonde hair
I though Kathie Lee got her start on Name that Tune
Just thought I'd let you know I was actually on the show in the early 80's. I had "Isaac the Bartender", David Copperfield and one of the Eight is Enough girls as our judges. We came in 2nd and the couple that beat us won the whole thing that year. It was a fun experience.
This show couldn't jump the shark because it totally sucked from day one. One of the stupidest shows in the history of tv.
Does anyone remember the name of the Dance Fever contestants who were a Brother Sister team that danced to Michael Jackson's Pretty Young Thing in the 80s?
When Frank Zappa appeared as a guest judge. His album 'Sheik Yerbouti' was out and he somehow got on this show. Perfect storm. One of the other guest judges was giving some lame dancers his score and he says 'I'm giving them a ten in honor of Frank Zappa's new album SHAKE YOUR BOOTY!!' and the camera focuses on Zappa and he has the smarmiest 'Oh I'm so sure you've ever even heard one of my albums' look on his face! It was hilarious! Zappa was giving everyone perfect tens and giving hysterical reasons for it. Then at the end where the judges do their little dance with the two chick dancers, Zappa just stood there between them and gave each one a painfully slow up-and-down look and then stared right into the camera and sorta gave a 'Oh, WTF' look - and then started twitching and totally spazzin' out! It couldn't have been any funnier. Disco is truly dead - and Zappa was its hitman.
This show completely jumped the shark when they ditched the multi-colored disco floor lights for the plain old white ones. Everyone I know agrees with this analysis!!
DANCE FEVER jumped the shark when Denny Terio was replaced by Adrian Zmed. Zmed is one of the cockiest and arrogant people I have ever seen who seemed to think he was all that and a bag of chips (if you don't believe me, rent BACHELOR PARTY) and he was a poor replacement for Terio and no nearly as good a dancer as Terio either. His little opening dance routines at the beginning of the show were as lame as they come.
In addition to his "dancing", Rerun destroyed the participants as a judge. The scoring was from 1 to 100. If you REALLY sucked, like you fell down or something, the judges would give you a 90 (the best contestants got 97 or 98). Rerun said Screw It and started giving out 60's and 65's. Just like if they started giving out 2's in gymnastics or figure skating. AWESOME.
This new version bears little resemblance to the awesome Deney Terrio original, which was all about a man and a woman dancing for 90 seconds to the stuff of the day. This time around, and it doesn't help matters that Carmen Electra is around, it telegraphs more like the old Star Search. Shades of Card Sharks.
Disco is DEAD. You seem to have forgotten, HOME-WRECKER, Kathy Lee Epstein (Gifford) got her start on this show.
