I liked Ramy Zada...I remember being very
disappointed with the change in cast. I wish
I could see the show in re-runs sometime. Ramy
Zada just seemed more exotic and mysterious..
can't say I remember too much about the female
cast members.
ramy zada was the worst thing to happen to dark justice. the change to bruce abbott was the best thing that ever happened for the show. you say that bruce abbott made the show suck? then WHY was he on for two seasons, as opposed to the single season that ramy played in? it's because ratings went UP with bruce abbott. he added a serious amount of depth and mystery to the character. ramy played it totally straight, didn't add anything to the show at all. bruce created an air of mystery around nick marshall, giving the character the depth it deserved. this can most easily be noticed in the intro. ramy's intro was forced + rushed, without emotion or vocal inflection, a monotonal spoken paragraph. bruce's intro made you FEEL like the system took his life away, made you FEEL like he actually meant what he said, added the inflection perfectly. also, if you had actually WATCHED the show instead of acting like a stuck-up jerk, you would have seen that bruce abbott definitely DID use the famous phrase "justice may be blind, but it can see in the dark". go back to sleep.
The series "Dark Justice" did not truly recover from the miscasting of Bruce Abbott as Judge Nicholas Marshall, the role that Ramy Zada had originated. The only reason for the change had to be that there were TWO Nicholas Marshalls, not one, and that the second, Abbott's Marshall, had to be the cousin of the first, Zada's Marshall. They probably married nearly-identical twin sisters, spawned daughters who were constantly being mistaken for one another, and had both their wives and their daughters killed in nearly-similar car-bomb explosions. Each then gave the other a reason to give up any belief in the American system of criminal law in which both had experienced such severe professional frustrations, and if it had not been for each other, neither would have started believing in dark justice. Chances are that Arnold "Moon" Willis and Jericho Gibson, the late Dick O'Neill's and once-and-future Guardian Angel Clayton Prince's respective characters, both knew the two Nicholas Marshalls. The only way "Dark Justice" can possibly reverse its "jump" and escape from the shark is if Zada AND Abbott act out BOTH of the two Nicholas Marshalls in a made-for-tv film titled, say, "Dark Justice: The Two Nicholas Marshalls
When Ramy Zada left, the show went downhill. Then they had several casting changes like Vivian Vives replacing Begona Plaza. I remember my local affiliate started airing their own thing rather than the Crimetime After Primetime stuff because of people were more interested in reruns of old sitcoms.
it never jumped...it was on the verge several times but never jumped. i did sort of hate the change in female leads, plus bruce abbot or whatever his name is who took over the Judge Marshall role, lost some of the edge...plus he didn't use the famous line" justice maybe blind, but it can see in the dark" but other than that it was good...wish someone would re-air it again it was cool to watch
I enjoyed this show from beginning to end. As for the cast change-Ramy was a better night watchman than Bruce, but Bruce was a better judge. Gibbs was terrific! His chemistry with Moon was great.
This show never jumped. Although it did switch judges in the middle (supposedly because Ramy Zada was only contracted for one year and had other commitments.) No one thought the show would be renewed. Anyway, between a young Carrie Ann Moss (the secretary Tara) who was just plain gorgeous and then Janet Gunn, it had the babes. Then, it had humor. Gibbs was played perfectly. But most importantly, it had guest stars. Erin (Wilma Deering) Grey was on and looked great! Then, William Katt, the Greatest American Hero was on. The judge said, "Justice may be blind, but in can see in the dark." The Greatest American Hero responded, "I'll sleep with the lights on!" Great line. Great show. It was repeated on TNT a year back, and I saw most of them! Judge by day, bounty hunter by night! What a concept.
I loved this show when Ramy zada was the star. Bruce Abbott may be a great actor but he just didnt make me wonder what Nick Marshall wore under his robe like Ramy did.
In my opinion, Dark Justice peaked in its second season, when the filming moved to California and Bruce Abbott and Janet Gunn joined the cast. (I like Ramy, but Bruce *is* The Judge!) It jumped at the start of the third season, when its late-night time slot was cut back from an hour plus to an hour. The stories were still mostly good, but much of that wonderful interaction between the characters (the Nick-Kelly flirtation, for example) had to be sacrificed to give the available time to the plot.
Bruce Abbott is the BEST judge, he added more depth to the role than Zada. The show totally upgraded when it moved to Chatsworth from Spain. Abbott is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood!
All I can say its the difference between Bruce and Ramy is like night and day. Bruce is a very dynamic actor that brought a depth to Nicholas Marshall that simply was not there before. Sword of Justice in hand, I shall defend MY Judge to the bitter end. After all, Justice may be blind.... but it can see in the dark.
In my not-so-humble opinion, Dark Justice upgraded when Ramy Zada left the show and Bruce Abbott took over as Judge Nicholas Marshall. Production also moved from Barcelona, Spain, to Southern California, giving it a glossier, more professional look, including extras who actually spoke English and understood direction.
When they replaced Ramy Zada w/ that skinny new guy. I never watched again- nough said....
I have NEVER been able to understand WHY this stupid cast change was made -- does anybody have ANY idea. I was told a few years ago that Zada had been killed in a motorcycle accident, but recently found out he is alive and well, still acting!!! This cast change was without doubt the DUMBEST EVER made, whatever the reason.
Great show killed off by apparent casting problems. The guy who replaced Ramy Zada as Judge Nicholas Marshall was hard to take seriously.
