I've noticed that for some reason, either Richard Roeper is an annoying racist prick or not a fan of British humor in movies.
Has anybody noticed that he gave negative reviews to British comedies (with the exception of "Run, Fatboy, Run" and "Hot Fuzz") to "Death at a Funeral", "Son of Rambow", "Wallace & Gromit", "Chicken Run" and more surprisenly, "Shaun of The Dead". So is okay to love Judd Apatow-type American comedies theses days but not the Monty Python-type films.
I hate him, throw him in the water, he's Shark bait!

They truly jumped once again with a new segment called "Three Movies to See", instead of the usual recap of their reactions on those films, where the thumbs used to be.
Here they let choose whatever movie is recommending to see in theatres, my biggest gripe is how did Richard Roeper manage to recommend a bad movie called "21"? Is he an idiot? I rather watch a bad high school drama than have to sit through this so-called true Story. Since it stars Jim Stugess, Roeper actually like this and "Across The Universe", a butchered Beatles Song Musical that made me feel nauseous. I know he enjoys these movies but I'm sick of him, and he's truly annoying and how many times did he had to say "good performance" in any film, A thousand times? Give me more details in these movies!

Jumped when Richard "Idiot" Roeper hated "The Spiderwick Chronicles" this year but like "The Number 23" from last year. He's a moron!
Roeper is a hack columnist at the Sun-Times, where Ebert also works. He got the television show because Ebert decided that he did not want to do the thing with a film critic any more.
Remember the 1996 film "Primal Fear"? Roeper ripped it to shreads in an April 8, 1996 column because he thinks that it is anti-Catholic. He was also offended that it was released close to Easter. He wrote in the column, "If you're even a casual Catholic, you'll find "Primal Fear" to be one of the most offensive movies ever released."
In order to support his ranting, Roeper even quotes that noted film critic, the U.S. Catholic Conference, which gave the film an "O" for "morally offensive".
Enough said!

Jumped when Roeper was hired to take over after the death of the late, great Gene Siskel. He's rude, arrogant, refused to let Roger Ebert even finish a sentence (I'm surprised Ebert didn't deck him for his constant interruptions) and has the personality of a turnip. It's even worse now, with no Ebert. I understand that he is no longer able to speak, but the man is a brilliant writer. Roeper should be forced to read Ebert's reviews on each show, instead of giving his own, and keep up with the guest hosts (I agree - Wilonsky is great! but I also enjoyed hearing from movie directors, actors and other professionals).
Richard Roeper is good (although I don't always agree with him or Roger).
And I like both them and Siskel(who I 'also' don't always agree with).

I NEVER send emails about shows but I tuned in this week and they announced that Rober Wilonsky would again be the guest host and I said outloud "great!!!" i like his severe stringency against Roeper's apparent glassy-eyed acceptance of many movies. it is simply refreshing to hear Wilonsky challenge and berate the movies for their bland nothingness. lets continue with them both as hosts, love it!!!!
As far as other movie critics go, Gene Siskel & Roger Ebert were a great team together.
I couldn't forget that episode when Gene Siskel did say that he manage to walked out in a theatre in 25+years for a disasterous Farley/Spade vehicle, "Black Sheep". Roger Ebert gave that praise to Gene and said, "I envy you".Not to mention, Ebert's review on "North", when it brought up the infamous phase, "I Hated, Hated, Hated this movie". Those were the days!
Now, I feel anyone pain about the loss of Gene since it has been eight years and the hate on Richard Roeper.
Now, Roeper isn't a bad critic, he's just telling what it is when it comes to movies and it's true that both Ebert & Roeper have no chemistry whatsoever. But, it's the far that counts.
I've gotta admit, with all the guest critics Roeper is picking during the year, my favorite has to be Robert Wilonsky. Now here's a critic that knows what's going on in movies. In fact, most of the films that I've truly agree is his review on "Shoot Em' Up", saying that "it's a Warner Bros. cartoon type of film and the two mildly awful films such as "Across The Universe" and "Mr. Woodcock". You can tell that these movies are just a waste of time and he's smart enough to agree. I don't know if everybody agrees with me, but I think he's a much better critic than Roeper.
And yes, they took down the "Thumbs Up/Down", which isn't a good sign. But, at least the series is still entertaining and I love it!

After seeing "Ebert & Roeper" this week, they're no longer giving a thumbs up/down show. Where's Roger we you need him?
"[Siskel] gave a thumbs up to a Benjie movie and a thumbs down to Full Metal Jacket on the same show"
Umm ... I think your memory might be a little off, Siskel LOVED Full Metal Jacket and gave it a thumb up. Ebert was the one that didn't like it. Go to their website and watch it (it's now archived).

This show didnt just jump when Roeper joined, it FLEW into the crapper!!! Gene Siskel was a professional critic from Eberts rival paper, Roeper comes from the SAME paper as Ebert and until now, wasnt even a movie critic......can you say "Nepotism"??? (I knew you could!!! ) Putting in non-critic Roeper from Eberts own paper, instead of another rival critic took away ALL the credibility this show ever had! ps. Saw Roger on TV last night, recovering from his cancer, I wish him well!
the show has OFFICIALLY jts!!!!!!
the jts moment was having john mellencamp as a guest host.
mellencamp has ZERO insight into film, and basically gave a thumps up to every film.
ebert and roeper needs to be revamped totally!!!!!!!!
ebert is clearly not going to be able to resume his tv movie reviewer role.
so the show should begin anew with roeper and a revolving "guest host", or a permanent host.
who's idea was it to ave john mellencamp as a guest reviewer?

If I gotta read one more post about how great Siskel was, I swear I'm gonna scream! Get over it, people...he's been gone since 2000 and Roeper's not going anywhere. I suggest you deal with it. That said, I think it may have jumped this past weekend when they brought in John Mellencamp--yes, THAT John Mellencamp--as a guest critic! If that sounds like a bad idea, I'm afraid it was. He had little screen prescence, no real insight, and gave a "thumbs up" to every movie (even "Fracture")! In short, he was as bad as everyone thinks Roeper is! That episode was so bad, it was a CHERRY BOMB! (Sorry, couldn't resist.
