Tom Bradford really grosses me out to an almost irrational point. I can't really put it all into words too easily, but his way of acting in the family is so selfish and immature. Yuck yuck yuck. Everyone caters to him, and it makes me so sad. He ruined the show.
Brian Patrick Clarke was a hunk I agree with you. People didn't like the Merle The Pearl Character. He was really good on a soap too. Pitter Patter.......
I thought the actor who played Merle the Pearl was one of the hottest men on TV. I had a major crush on him and used to tune in to this show every week. I'll buy the DVDs if they get released.
Wow Eight is Enough....I watched that show religiously when it was on...for one reason and one reason only. CONNIE NEWTON-NEEDHAM !!!! OMG was she BEAUTIFUL and Sweet and SEXY !!!! What a Good GREAT lookin woman. She just popped into my head right now so I went lookin for pics of her.I havent found but a few...she still looks very beautiful !!!
Brian Patrick Clarke was a fine actor everyone just felt that the Merle character with the southern accent was bad. Although I have to agree he was HOT!
I keep hoping that one day Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriquez make a Grindhouse style movie based on the kidnapping of Susan Richardson in South Korea. They could probably resurrect the careers of some of those girls because I'm sure they're doing nothing but waiting around for a call for the next reunion movie. I know that Laurie Walters had done quite a few B-movies before starring in Eight is Enough. I really like her a lot more now that I've been watching them on DVD. She appeared topless in 'The Harrad Experiment" which also starred Don Johnson (as did Lani O Grady in "Massacre at Central High". Never cared for her much on the show and thought her Joanie character had some pretty weak story lines. A few years back i had dated someone who formerly worked with Betty Buckley in a stage production and was told that she wanted to forget about her 'Eight is Enough" years because she had done so much coke during that period. Remember how Abby was so anorexic and always sniffling and her nose was red? well, this is why. Another friend who had a guest spot on the show in an episode where Nancy starts a home daycare center told me that the cast was very friendly with the exception of Dick Van Patten who he said was yelling at everyone on the set and difficult to work with. A couple years back I went to visit the actual location of the Bradford house in Burbank, CA but sadly it had been torn down and replaced with condos. I'm surprised that a lot of people felt the appearance of Merle the Pearl was the jumping point for this show, because I actually found him to be the only attractive guy on the show. Those thick muscular legs and arms, covered in hair and piercing blue eyes. Yeah, the southern accent was bad, but Brian Patrick Clarke was a major hottie compared to Willie Aames whom, God knows why, everyone liked. I was sad to hear the news of Lani O'Grady dying of an overdose in her mobile home. I sopke with her on the phone several years back when I saw an ad for her acting classes listed in Variety. Seemed like a nice person and it's a shame she had to die so early. I read a rumor online that Adam Rich was to appear nude in an issue of Playgirl. Thankfully it never materialized. He did make an appearance in the film "Dickie Roberts Child Star" and if you watch the DVD extras you will see and hear him singing. He was a cute kid on Eight is Enough but now looks like some sort of aging munchkin. As for a DVD release there is no reason why this show does not deserve a release. This is definitely a show that deserves a DVD release because of it's great cast, history and episode storylines. Why Punky Brewster has 3 season out and this doesn't is beyond me. I guess I'll have to email Tarantino and pitch him my film idea. They could probably cast some hot chick from Maxim magazine to play Susan even though she was never hot herself.
"there's a plate of homemade wishes on the kitchen window sill..." is actually drug-speak for a plate of homemade hashish brownies. i know i had to be high to watch this show. i blame "eight is enough" for the failed war on drugs.
as for abby drinking glass after glass of wine while pondering her pregnancy, i think just having sex with dick van patten would drive you to drink.

Jeremy was a breath of fresh air compared to that dopey Dodie (Dawn Lyn from My Three Sons). She won't allow her name to be listed on New Kid in Town. Vote for her anyway.
"...there's a plate of homemade wishes on the kitchen windowsill..." ICK! I'll bet they were stuffed with "bright and shiny new dimes."
If only Elizabeth could have kept the show from jumping.........(audible sigh)......... then she started in with that no talent hick and got hitched. She not only caused the show to JTS but she caused my heart to jump that big old shark up there on cloud 9.
Just adding to my post below, Eight is Enough rather obviously jumped every time Ernie was onscreen, then jumped back. A question to all of you who are inconsolably mourning over Diana Hyland's death -- can you even name ONE other thing she was in besides this show? No disrespect to her, but what was she on, maybe 8 epidodes - come on! I always had the hots for David, but Tommy was a REAL close second.
