Ah, "F Troop." This one is, of course, divided along strict gender lines. For men: never jumped. For women: jumped day one.
F troop, had bad luck that both ended it far to soon, kept it from going years longer, and bringing it back.I read on line in an interview with Melody Paterson, that when Jack Warner had a stoke or heart attack, his tv productions fell apart,so it wasnt poor ratings that ended the show. Second, Tucker had went to Spain,to negotiate bringing f troop there to continue filming,to find upon coming back, the show had been sold for syndication, ending further episodes. I remember back in 1986,plans were underfoot, for a f troop reunion film, that ended with tuckers death.Even 20 years older, and without a few cast members, such as the chief,it would have been a great film.
Wow, F-Troop. I have to say I am impressed with the manor this show was treated with on this site. Very precise analogies and descriptions of the show. O.K. as far as it goes I watched this show as many in syndication in the 70,s and 80's and is much missed today As a fact I can contribute (apart by Wrangler Jane being a sight for any red blooded male) is that I can truly opine in reference to the issue of "The Change" from B&W to color was quite a point of controversy for the program even then. If one thing will ever define F-Troop to this regard it is that the show's brilliance is really exploited in the color episodes. Though the B&W's I will agree are classic to a lot of fans, the later color eps are where this show comes in to it's own and that is an undisputable place in our hearts as well as TV history. Krazy Kat was CRAZY!
This mildly well-remembered sitcom had just about the finest opening credits in american tv history (in the b+w eps that is). The site of the lookout tower coming down and the guy jumping out as it did was brilliant. To think they gave it all up for the vastly inferior opening color credits! Ugggh!
Just a hilarious show. It had a good first season, but really clicked the 2nd season, the color episodes [didn't hurt this show]Great use of guest stars, I remember Don Rickles as Bald Eagle, Paul Lynde as the Singing Mountie[he actually turned out to be the Burgler of Banff-FF] Harvey Korman as a Prussian Army Officer, Zsa Zsa as a gyspy, Phil Harris as a 140 yr old Indian Chief [had been friends with George Washington] They had so many continual gags on the show with the troop and the Heekawii Indians. My favorite bit was whenever the dimwitted Agarn came up with an idea Sgt. O'Rourke would say "Agarn...I don't know why everyone says your some dumb" then Agarn would get a proud look on his face and after some time would pass and they are getting ready to pull off some scam it would finally register with Agarn..."Who says I'm dumb?"
I loved the bits where Larry Storch would play Agarn's various cousins who would somehow end up in Ft. Courage, like Agarnoff, the Russian or Agarnato, a Mexican bandit or Lucky Pierre, a French-Canuck [whom everyone thought was the Burglar of Banff-FF]
And how about the Heekawi Indians? Just a riot, Frank deKova as Wild Eagle, the Chief and Don Diamond as Crazy Cat, asst Chief, who kept rooting for Wild Eagle's early death so he could take over. Loved the way they would charge Sgt. O'Rourke to atage an Indian attack so Ft. Courage could justify their existence [and keep O'Rourke Enterprises in business] Do you think in this PC era that this show would everget a shot?
Wrangler Jane was hot! Great ass, always ready for action with that dummy Wilton Parmenter ["C'mon Wilton, bend me over and load me up like a shotgun!"]
Still can't figure out why ABC would pull the plug on this and "the addams Family" after 2 seasons. 2 of the best and most original sitcoms of the 60's.

Have the first black and white season and enjoyed what I hadn't seen in more than three decades as a kid. What I couldn't yet appreciate as a kid was Wrangler Jane. If the show an ongoing mini-jump, it was every episode when Wrangler Jane DIDN'T get naked.
F-Troop was a classic. I remember my father laughing till tears ran from his eyes. It takes a lot to make my father laugh and he, himself, has a terrific sense of humor. He loved Larry Storch as Cpl. Agarn. It was his character who made Dad laugh the most. A lot of great shows didn't make it because the world wasn't in tune with sophisticated humor. It takes a certain intelligence to appreciate such things.

"Did Your Father Come from Ireland?",a color second season episode was good, but a bit unusual. The late Forrest Tucker was great as Sgt.O'Rourke AND his father.Forrest Tucker,Ken Berry, and Melody Patterson sang beautifully, and here is the bit unusual part:Agarn was a bit testier than usual in this episode.Overall,a good episode.
The person who said that the episodes (some of them)are recycled "Gilligan's Island" episodes was right on the nose.I just recently got the second season DVD of "F Troop",and love it.Getting back to my main point,a funny episode,"The Majority of Wilton",proves the point:In it,Capt. Parmenter catches a cold, and everyone-Wrangler Jane,Dobbs,Duffy,Agarn and Sgt.O'Rourke -give to Capt.Parmenter their old home remedies-.It bears a striking resemblance to a first season black and white episode of "Gilligan's Island"where in the castaways all try to help the Skipper fall asleep,by lacing his drink with sleeping pills.
The pretty good last show of the series"Is This Fort Really Necessary?",was similar in a way to "M*A*S*H*,in some ways, because the new-no-nonsense I.G.,nicknamed by Sgt.O'Rourke "Terrible Terry",because they knew each other before, was similar to that idiot Col.Flagg of M*A*S*H,or that annoying "Maj.Frank Burns"of M*A*S*H.It also left a lot to the imagination, which shows of today seldom do.All in all ,not a bad episode.
Never jumped by far! One of the best and most brilliant sitcoms of the 1960s. It was canceled as was quite a few great shows of the similar years
Adams Family, Munsters, Ghost and Mrs Muir.... and all for no clear reason. These shows are just little time capsules, from a great era long forgotten by most in classic TV
