For a brief period in high school, I was hell-bent on meeting the Dave Matthews Band and spent far too much money on posters, additional CDs, a biography (which I still haven't read), and a membership to the DMB Warehouse. I even took notes to find out all the details of what more I needed to do, but after telling all this to my drama teacher and friend she discouraged from doing anything more in the sapce of thirty seconds by telling me that the fans who apply really don't have lives. Looking back on this show, she couldn't have been more right. Brendan Frasier's biggest fan has seen Mrs. Winterbourne over 100 times and is still counting; Tyson Beckford's biggest (female) fan buys men's underwear just for his picture; Tara Lipinski's biggest fan begged his sister to name her new pet "Tara"; Susan Lucci's biggest fan named her two cats "Erica" and "Kane"; and let's not forget FANatic's own quests to find out who was lifeless enough to meet Brandy and Blink 182. Granted I would love to sit down with a few of my favorite entertainers long enough to ask them about their work and get few autographs, but this show was just too much. I'm thrilled I was talked out of it especially since I haven't enjoyed any of DMB's albums since 1998.
When Mariah Carey appeared on the show and had the entire episode devoted to her and two whole fanatics being on it to worship--*ahem* I mean INTERVIEW her.. I never really liked Mariah Carey very much because of her "oh look, I'm a sex goddess, everyone must come WORSHIP ME!" attitude, but this was the clincher.
I don't think this show will ever jump because it consistently provides the same service each episode- showing that there are some very pathetic, scary people out there with WAY too much time on their hands. Remember the gay Asian guy who was obsessed with Stevie Nicks and even hosted an event (in San Francisco, natch) in her honor (she didn't show, of course) and he dressed up like her, including a wig? Sick, sad world we live in! And how about the gay (not openly, but you could tell!) schoolteacher who was obsessed with Ozzy Osbourne? This guy would constantly tell his friends how sorry he was for them that they didn't have someone in their lives to love the way he loves Ozzy! These people seriously need to get a life!
MTV should change the show's name to something more descriptive like "person you'll most likely find hiding under your bed when you get home".
Although I do think some of the kids go a little overboard, how can you criticize them for being a fan of a particular person? I think some of you secretly wish someone liked you that much. But judging by the comments you write, even if you were famous, I don't believe anyone would.
I've tried a couple times to watch this show and couldn't finish an entire episode. The fans that get chosen are just too pathetic and creepy; if I was one of these celebrities I would be afraid of doing the wrong thing and setting off a psychotic response in one of these lost souls. Trivia for you Gen-Y kiddies: Who is Mark David Chapman?
OK OK OK what about the guy who got to meet Hootie and the Blowfish and told the producers at MTV that hearing their tapes over and over again brought the guy out of homelessness, if you're homeless, how do you listen to tapes anyways? But, I must say, I actually liked this show a lot. I thought the crazy fans were funny. Although, the one with Mariah Carey laying on a sofa trying to act like a diva was a bit much.
Actually I really enjoyed FANatic. A friend of mine got to go see Mya on that show once and said it was a wonderful experience. I also think it's great that fans can interact with their favorite stars.
This show jumped the shark the day it came out, the fans just scream and ask dumb questions, almost everyone leaves in tears and the same thing happens every time its just a pointless show. If i could change it it would be that the person that wins gets a part in the stars next video or something.
Day one. But did anyone see the episode with the kid who worshipped Christina Aguilera? First of all, she's 13, how long has this kid been a fan, 3 weeks? Wow. And then they showed a clip of how he dressed as a genie and sang Genie in a Bottle at his high school fashion show. OH MY GOD. I've never been more embarrassed for another person in my LIFE. I'm surprised MTV didn't air a special on his brutal murder the next week. There's no WAY he doesn't get his ass beat every day.
Rarely the fans are nice people. But usually they are so obsessed, you know the celebrities are thinking "this had better count for my Community Service...stupid drunk driving arrests!
After you see different people and celebrities but hear the same questions basically over and over again.
When that hysterical bimbo won the chance to see her idol Sarah Michelle Gellar, she made a wonderful first impression when the first second she saw her, she burst into hysterical sobbing. Ms. Gellar looked as if she wanted to subtly sneak out the back door
This show is really creepy. If I were a star, I wouldn't let any of these freaks near me. And I STILL can't believe that girl got a tattoo of Jordan Knight's signature from his NKOTB days. It was HUGE, it took up her whole forearm! For godsakes, why not just be like the rest of the 16 year old girls getting tattoos and get a freaking butterfly or a damn flower?! What happens when she actually meets a man that isn't in Tiger Beat... "Honey, I know I have this disgusting tattoo that I got because of my really lame obsession over Jordan Knight, but it's a part of me that you need to love too." Whata dumbass.
