So it's just Willy Gilligan and the Skipper now, and they're lost astronauts. And the Skipper is played by someone else. There's also a cutesy companion-creature named 'Honk'. They all go on wacky outer-space misadventures together and meet strange aliens. Right. OK. 'Gilligan's Island' looks like 'Seinfeld' compared to this.
i think i am talking about the lost saucer. duh. sorry dude..
:)

In case you are wondering what their pet was it was called "Dorse", A white shaggy dog with a horse head. Did "the lost saucer" have that as a pet too?
Take it easy all. The show was cute in its own way and so what if reflected the 'Island' concept. I remember liking the show and looking forward to it. I loved my Saturday mornings. There were worse shows. Look at the crap on TV today and tell me (just like music) it's not a tweek or a rip off from something else years ago?
All Sid & Marty Krofft shows never jumped, and Far Out Space Nuts is no exception. Bar None as one of the all-time favorite shows from the 1970s that actually may be responsible for the making of "Star Wars" movies (see "Tower of Tagot" with the laser beam scene). AND EVERYONE SURVIVED!! No deaths, just lessons learned which proves the Kroffts have saved a lot of lives, although 15 episodes isn't quite much probably due to the budget constraints of setting this show up. And last but not least, Bob Denver who was more teen idol in "FOSN" than castaway. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER FAR OUT SPACE NUTS FOREVER!
In 1973 Sid and Marty Krofft dropped the psychedelia look of their 1st 3 shows H.R. Pufnstuf,The Bugaloos, and Lidsville, which were all set in trippy fantasy lands populated by colorful costumed characters[mostly played by little people who got quite hot in those suits!!],they first did a domestic series/fantasy series about 2 boys befriending a friendly sea monster[Sigmund And The Sea Monsters],then an adventure series about a family lost in a prehistoric world[Land Of The Lost],then in 1975 they produced 2 series set in space,The Lost Saucer and this series about 2 NASA janitors who get stuck in space while loading food onto a rocket,it was criticized as being "Gilligan In Space" because Gilligan himself Bob Denver starred in it with rotund comedian and former local kids show host Chuck McCann as his partner, their "space pet" was a furry Krofft creation called "Honk" that looked like a long nosed squirrel with a horn stuck in its head [played by little person actress Patty Maloney]. It lasted for only 15 episodes and only 1 season, but it was reran on Sunday mornings by CBS the next season before being added to the Krofft Super Stars syndication package a year later. The aliens were played mostly by obscure character actors that I felt sorry for, they had their faces covered in makeup and sprinkled with glitter, can you imagine how long it took to get all that gook off? And I thought the 1st season Kaptain Kool And The Kongs on The Krofft Supershow had it bad a year later with glitter on their faces and in their hair,I'll bet they were overjoyed when their makeup and glitter was removed for the shows last season in 1977! This show also had some of the weirdest background music heard on a Saturday morning kids show, there was some odd synthesizer music performed by Michael Lloyd[who also sang the theme]that is stuck in my head to this day! Damn that bad 70s music, but the Kroffts still rule!!
I remember watching this as a kid, and going come on Sid and Marty--after Land of The Lost this is all you can think of. Anyways, Day One is not good enough for a JTS--how about when the idea came to them in a bad acid trip haze. What is worse, is that someone liked the idea and later made Gilligan's Planet Cartoon--or was that my bad acid trip haze?
What the heck was that thing? I know it was supposed to be half dog and half horse, but come on!. I guess calling it a "hog" would have been even worse.
This show was a ripoff of "Abbott & Costello Go To Mars"! Same premise: two lamebrain ground crewmen loading supplies on a rocket accidentally take off for parts unknown. Too bad they never did a crossover episode with "The Lost Saucer".
Did it never occur to any of you who liked this show that they were loading the meals in the wrong order?! "Breakfast, dinner, lunch". WTF?? Could they not even come up with a logical premise to get the heroes into space? Why would lunch be loaded last? Just plain idiotic. I have a PHd in Suspension of Disbelief, but even I can't forgive this one.
This show never jumped the shark. It was always moronic, but intentionally. An off the wall goofball show in the genre of Doctor Who. With all the real crap on the tube at the time (The Brady Bunch, 8 is enough, Dynasty etc.) this show was a welcome break from the monotany. Comic releif in the age of bad fashion. Sid and marty Kroft rule! ALL HAIL ELECTRO WOMAN AND DYNA GIRL!
Jumped the shark from day one. This show was so bad, even when you were a kid you knew it was bad. It's a shame, because Chuck McCann and Bob Denver are certainly gifted comic actors, and they did have an agreeable chemistry. And the concept of two idiots accidentally being launched into space certainly does have comic potential. Like many of the other Sid and Marty Croft shows, this one looks like it was filmed in someone's backyard. And probably was.
Oh God, don't take me there. Lazy school age kid watching saturday morning shows before cable, no remote, too lazy to get up... oh no.....god..it's gilligan but yet no Mary Anne, what the hell is this crap, that's not the Skipper, no wait... yeah I'm right that's not the skipper..Space what the hell is Gilligan doing in space.. Oh hell it will be over in a 1/2 hour.. Man that was one long year..This is probably one show that Ted McGinley couldn't even hurt....THANK GOD FOR MY COUNT CHOCULA HIGH it got me through some serious sid croft crap of the 70's. Looking back the 70's saturday morning lineup in all it sucking glory, still holds fond memories for me. Saturday morning T.V. has been going nowhere but downhill since.
Never jumped! Certainly this show was following a formula that had already worked for Bob Denver. But is that a bad thing? This show had a lot of charm and it was funny for kids. Loved the "LUNCH, not launch!" snafu. While not necessarily a good show for cynics, it certainly has a well-deserved following. Just check it out at Yesterdayland.com! Cute and innocent concept; too bad there's nothing that good on the airwaves today.
D A Y O N E. Any questions? Bob Denver should have stayed at home and smoked weed. Instead he had to be in yet another stupid show. Anything that was made by Sid &Marty Kroft sucked. If you don't believe me,check out H.R Puffenstuff or Sigmund and the Seamonster.
