I've got a great idea for a new TV show! You know that hit movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High...the one that was controversial for depicting underage drinking, underage sex, illicit drug-taking, masturbation, abortion, and, last but not least, simulated b.j's on carrot sticks while noshing in the school lunchroom?
Well, howzabout we turn it into a sanitized prime-time network sitcom? Of course, in order to get it past standards and practices, we'll need to cut out absolutely everything that made the movie controversial...and a hit. So whaddya think? Brilliant, right?

FAST TIMES jumped from day one. Another example of why movies should not be made into TV shows. "People on ludes should not develop TV shows, Man!"
With the possible exception of THE ODD COUPLE, taking a classic movie and turning it into a TV series rarely works and this one of the best examples of that. To take a raunchy, adult, clever classic like FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH and try to clean it up for the small screen was a mistake. The show jumped from day one. It jumped the day the concept materialized at CBS. CBS loves to do this, too. They tried many years later with DIRTY DANCING and that didn't work either. I wish television executives would leave classic movies alone.
This show was awesome dude, totally awesome! My favorite episode was the one where Spicoli and his friends were spreading a rumor that Mr. Hand (Ray Walston) had a glass eye. Mr. Hand not only dispelled the rumor in a most dramatic fashion, he taught them a valuable lesson about what happens when rumors go too far. My brother worked at one of the stores in the Sherman Oaks Galleria, during the time this show was in production. He met many of the cast and crew, so we always made sure we watched this show. Fast Times Forever!
Fast Times jumped before it was even put on the air. To the poster who says that 1986 was for acting like Spicoli...What are you talking about? Anyone still acting like Spiccoli & wearing checkered Vans in '86 would of got his ass beat for being ignorant. The movie came out in '82. 1986 was a time of change. Remember Run-DMC? Beastie Boys? People were wearing Adidas with no laces while having the VW logo hanging from their neck. Where were you in '86? Under a rock?
Wasn't the Horror movie shmuck from "Summer School" playing Jeff Spicoli. Nuff said this show sucked
Boring sitcom with no laugh track that was the lead in for another boring sitcom with a phony laugh track called Tough Cookies.
This show rules, but the movie was so much better. 86 was all about acting like Spicoli and hanging your skateboard off the side of your desk by the truck's base plate. Bring coloured shorts, slip on Vans and stupid sunglasses.
It wasn't on long enough to jump. Even though this has to do with the movie version, I think it's worth mentioning. There are some scenes shot around Christmas at the mall, then a little bit later on they show the football game. Isn't that a little inconsistent--unless high school football in southern California has its season after Christmas.
