"This was the worst thing Jim Henson did. The whole thing was just too contrived. None of the characters really had memorable personalities. They put a lot of thought into creating this whole world, but it falls flat because the characters inspire no real interest."
Idiot!
Idiot!
I remember watching this when I was little. Does anyone recall an episode where the fraggles are singing with the gorgs, or something like that? That's one of the ones I remember the most from back then but I could not remember its name so I could not search for it on youtube.
Jumped?! Ha-ha-ha!! That's a good one. But seriously, I loved Fraggle Rock ever since I was a kid, and I'm lucky to catch ***** clips/full episodes (Divided into three parts) on Youtube. The thing I loved about Fraggle Rock was that it taught lessons about moral values, unity, Self confidence,/esteem and peace and love.
Each of the fraggles was unique in his or her own way. Gobo was the leader and he usually kept all the fraggles together. He was usually the brave one following in his Uncle Traveling Matt's footsteps. Mokey is very creative, artistic, and very supportive of her friends. Boober may be stubborn most of the times, but there were times where he can be playful and fun without Sidebottom, like in the episode "Scared Silly" where he kept scaring Wembley. Otherwise, he likes doing laundry and watching the dust settle. Wembley may not have any specific talents, and he may be clumsy, especially when he continually bangs his head on the pipe when going along with Gobo to pick up a postcard from Uncle Matt, but Wembley knows how to be a good friend. He's always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends in need. Red is very athletic and energetic. There are times where she tries to overtake Gobo's role (At least that's how I saw her as a kid), but in the end, Red usually learns that friendship is more important than trying to gain leadership.
One episode made me cry; it was the one in which Mokey thinks that Junior Gorg is obsessed with a rather large radish he named Geraldine, and she sends him on a quest to find a friend. What she did not realize was that Geraldine was more than just a large radish in Junior's eyes, especially when huge tear drops begin to spill when he sees that Geraldine had "left him". *Sniff*... I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.
The fraggles, doozerss, Doc and Sproket, and even the Gorgs will make you laugh, cry, smile, and if you're old enough to remember, say "Aahhh... Those were the good ol' days."
They also have Fraggle Rock seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, and soon, Season 3.
If I am misleading anyone, or if I am misinterpreting anything, I do apologize. Just remember...
Dance your cares away. Worries for another day.
Let the music play... Down in Fraggle Rock!

Let the music play... Down in Fraggle Rock!
Fraggle Rock is one of the most major parts of my childhood. My parents attribute the show to why I entered a career in music theatre. A substantial moral lesson was taught in each episode, the music was intelligent, complex, and unforgettable, and the characters are immortal. It did aire on HBO and later for a short while on the Disney Channel...before the horrible animated series that, thankfully, had a short life span. I am so glad it is finally on DVD as my kids love it too!! I met Dave Goelz and Jerry Nelson on a cruise aboard the QE2 a few years ago. They were giving seminars and both said Fraggle Rock was their favorite project. I mean, it was written in an effort to bring about world peace--what could be better than that?
I love the HBO theme, too. I wish that they would revive that. It was so dramatic and the music was awesome. In fact, I live in Rochester, NY and if I remember correctly, the composer to the HBO theme used to be an on-air personality here. I forgot his name. We should tell HBO to bring that one back!
For me, never jumped. I was so young when this show aired (and ended) that I was really sad about it and really believed that there was a hole in the wall that led to Fraggle Rock and that I could go down there and have fun with Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, and Red (in order of their role call during the theme song) - and the Gorgs and Doozers, too. When the final episode aired - I believe it was called "Endings" - I cried. AND BIG PROPS TO THE GUY WHO BROUGHT UP THE AWESOME HBO LOGO THEME SONG AND GRAPHICS (where it starts over the city and then spins around the letters with the cool lights). That song rocked. I've even sampled it on one of the songs on my new album... yeah, my daily obsession HBO and Fraggle Rock had a musical influence on me. Thanks, Jim Henson and crew! RIP Jim.
Never did jump the shark. All Henson productions had their rough points, but Fraggle Rock had fewer than most. The Muppet show took a full season to really get going, and didn't hit it's stride until about the second or third episode of the second season; but Fraggle Rock was hot from the first, and carried the momentum all the way through the series. The characters were much more solid and *real* than most others; with real character flaws and strengths.
Fraggle Rock is one of the all time best children's show that ever was. I never missed an show, and I wish that it was still on tv today. Its better than some of the crap that is one tv today
Fraggle Rock never jumped the shark!! Some disagreed with the ending, but I found it to be the best part. Doc finally is able to see that there are other worlds outside of his own and has to move on, only to find them again b/c everything in life is connected. It is about peace and living in harmony with everything around you, though it may be different. Two thumbs up to Jim Henson for imparting that message on to the rest of us through a wonderful show full of colors, songs, and fun fantastical characters.
Anyone remember the Animated Series on Saturday morning? While it did introduce Fraggles to us poor kids who didn't have HBO in the 80s, it was like sloshing around in your kiddie pool when your parents promised to take you to the beach. What was worse was, as far as I could tell since my REAL fraggle viewing was sporadic, the HBO puppet series seemed to start taking storylines from the cartoon show, and that was just sad. Of course, I could be wrong.
Few Canadians and fewer Americans will know this, but the highly respected avant-garde language poet BP Nichol wrote for Fraggle Rock. This will account for some of the subliminally-embedded literary allusions in the show (e.g., aren't the Dozers multiple versions of Sisyphus?)
Find another kids show here with as many glowing reviews. This show was the tops. Original music every episode, Lets hope that there is a DVD collection out soon.
The show never jumped, although it probably would have if Doc shrunk himself to Fraggle size and entered the Rock...that would have been a disaster. In all seriousness I love this show, and grow up on it between the ages of 5-10, eagerly awaiting each new episode. The freakier and more disturbing it got, the more fascinating (and sometimes frightening) I found it, like when Red finds the sea monster...it gave me nightmares for weeks (seriously), or the ones with Boober's alter-ego, Sidebottom. I'm presently trying to collect all the episodes in honor of the joy and wonders of Fraggle Rock, and I secretly fantasize about a "Boober and Wembly" spin-off...although that might be "jumping the shark." After watching the show again many years later, I have now realized that Gobo has a Canadian accent, and that Fraggle Rock still kicks butt and also teaches good values.
never jumped. it was amusing. sometimes funny, always musical, it was supposed to be a way of seeing how different types of beings can live in harmony. come on now, there were 2 worlds with gorgs, fraggles, doozers, people, trash heaps and animals that could talk and/or understand words. it rocked. it kinda scared me, just cuz the eyes are so huge on those gosh darn puppets. this show kicked butt, always will.
