This show was awful, the writing painfully cliche. I could never watch an entire episode. So it pretty much jumped the shark by the first 3 minutes.
I agree with those who said that the work life and friendships on this show were the best part. The whole family thing was a bust, been there done that. With Davis, Roger and Cole ABC could of had a network version of Sex and The City exploring the women's working and personal lives but instead they went for the whole family life premise, big mistake.
I was in a focus group that was shown two episodes of this show before it aired. We were all men in their 30s (guess they wanted to see if men would watch it). The consensus was the work life had potential (Davis, Rogers, & Coles all deserved better than this) but the home life was dreadful! Someone described it above much better than I could. I'll never forget this moment in the focus group: the husband (boyfriend?) is making the kids lunch and says to Geena 'could you give me a hand'--she replies something like 'sure, what'd you have in mind' (full of innuendo, of course), and then WITH A STRAIGHT FACE he says 'help me make the kids lunches'. EVERY MAN IN THE ROAM GROANED!!!!!!! I heard the Jaws music right then and there.
I didn't watch this show very often. It wasn't the best show on the air but when I did watch it most of the time I liked it. I loved how Geena wasn't afraid to flaunt her height. They should have called it something else, though (the show)
I agree with the person who said that Davis, Rogers and Coles were the thing that worked on this show. Together they made a funny trio who probably could of carried this program. Everytime it shifted over to the domestic side of Gena Davis character was when I lost interest and the program wasn't a funny. TPTB should of went for more of a program about three single women, with their work issues and dating issues and should never had ventured into the whole lets have Gena's character have a steady boyfriend with two children whom she just happens to live with. But no they had to have to whole domestic side of her life which didn't work and made the program fizzle out.
Nyurghh... but better then Bette
Hell yes I remember "Sara" (or was it "Sarah?") I've even requested the show be added to this site, but to no avail. "Sara" was the creation of Merill Markoe, one time Letterman girlfriend and full time comedy whiz. Along with Bill Maher, the show featured the extraordinary Alfre Woodard as well as Bronson Pinchot. The show was very funny, and Davis was as hot looking as possible.
The B cast was great; her friends/co-workers. Funny Harland Williams, sweet Kim Coles and the magnificent Mimi Rogers in the cliche role of '90s TV, the alcoholic slut best friend (who got all the best lines). They should have been the show. But then the domestic "a-plot": the boring husband, helpful housekeeper and those horrible, awful kids. So you wind up with a wholesome family oriented domestic sit-com in which every episode is about... sex? What up with that?
Did you ever notice how big screen stars can't make the adjustment to small screen...duh..spell Geena Davis......now she's marked by both medias....duh..could ex Jeff Goldblum know something she doesn't....Predict this now..she's a HAS BEEN...
Proof once again that putting someone with near-perfect legs (and an interesting collection of high heels) into a lame excuse for entertainment does not make a show worth watching. Say goodbye to your career, Geena.

FYI - This was not the first time that Geena Davis was the star of a TV show. At least ten years ago, she starred on a show called "Sara," an NBC comedy about lawyers in San Francisco. It lasted only one season but, unlike this show, was actually funny! Among the other cast members was Bill Maher in the "John Larroquette" (Night Court) part. Does anyone remember this show?
Around sometime in the middle of the first episode when it became obvious that these characters were not funny and only a fool could develop any fondness for any of them.
I gave this show a chance. I really did. As soon as she walked into the Gary of thirtysomething's house it all went downhill. The little daughter can't act, the smarminess of the son seeing Geena in her skivvies was sick (too bad he lost Freaks & Geeks to this!), and the "wacky friends" includes one of the most annoying, unfunny supporting characters I have ever seen in my lifetime (the guy with the nasal voice whose name I can't even remember). The concept of Geena trying WAY TOO HARD to be a new mother to the kids was weak to begin with and is getting old. Too bad.
