Just for the record:
this page is NOT for the "Real Ghostbusters" cartoon.
This one is for the Filmation Ghostbusters, the one that had a gorilla and drove around in a talking buggy shaped like a skeleton and fought a guy called Prime Evil.
This one had a theme song that went: "Let's go Ghostbusters, let's go Ghostbusters, let's go! Let's go, let's go!"

Is this the show with the gorilla?
The one that came on Saturday mornings in between cartoons? Oh yeah, I remember it. This sucker might have served me a little better in life if I could have watched it with a hangover or still a little high on active metabolites(ie. bong resin) But I was only 11 when this came out.Even then I thought this show was filmed in some guy's basement.Aw shucks am I a meany?
It was campy and quirky. I gave it a 7

ummm it looks like the information is for the playmation or w/e "ghost busters" not the "Real Ghostbusters" based on the movie
Just a reminder to all of you. This show was The Ghostbusters NOT The Real Ghostbuster which had the character Slimer in it. The Real GhostBusters was a completely diffrent show all together
Banal entertainment with the exact same formula every single show. A ghost (actually a famous guest star like Jim Backas or Billy Barty) would show up- decided to haunt the one haunted house, the guys would try to pull the file which would involve trying to open a file cabinet and the gorilla holding a message that blows up in his hands. Then they go to the house and despecre it and zap it away... very involving when I was a little kid in the seventies... but lost something now I look back on it.
In it's initial conception, The Real Ghostbusters was a perfect show. It featured a strong diversified cast which fleshed out the characters from the film (Including one Winston Zeddemore, who became more then simply the blue collar average guy like he was in the film). Under the careful eye of J. Micheal Straczynski, the show featured several memorable episodes and had a humour that reached out to both kids and adults alike. Animation was usually raising the bar and some of the episodes were surprisingly dark for an 80s kids show. Then something happened. The studio executives pulled that trick they always manage to do and the show quickly began to decay. Animation standards began to fall with moving animation from Korea to America. Laura and Lorenzo left their respective places and were replaced by less then successful artists. The final straw that broke the camel's back was probably the resignation of JMS. Slimer became a central role and even got his own show. Sadly, once they realised their mistake, asking JMS to help did little to fix the damage... the main triumph being JMS's retconning of Janine's changes in one of the few noteworthy episodes of the latter seasons. The episode where Egon finally admitted his love for Janine. The show didn't have a perfect run, ending probably due to both declining standards and 'Mommy pressure', but the first series will always remain a classic. Many have said that this show can't beat Filmation's cartoon. I'll admit bias, but to this day I still love this cartoon, and I will never understand the appeal of the 'other' Ghost Busters.
I stopped watching for awhile when Venkman was no longer voiced by the fabulous Lorenzo Music, and Janine had a prettier voice and softer looks. I started watching again later, and found there were still some good episodes (the alternate dimension where ghosts busted people), but there were a lot more off episodes (like the Wacky Races-style episode).
Head Writer J. Michael Straczinski is tormented by network execs forcing him to add the Junior Ghostbusters. Soon, they want him to retool Janine from witty to motherly. He quits, and the new head writer absolutely loves the network's brainless execs. Soon we see junior busters aplenty, motherly Janine, and the show eventually becomes Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters.
I was a huge Ghostbusters fan when I was little. I think Ghostbusters may even have been my first word. Ironically, I can't remember much about the cartoon, even though I watched it every day. I do remember there being too much Slimer, and it really sucking when Peter's voice changed, but I also remember some of the earlier episodes being great!! How about "Knock, Knock", with the "Do not open until Doomsday" door? Or the episode where they went into space and fought a giant octopus-ghost, and at the end someone compared Egon to Spock? Or the episode where they went to a museum and all the skeletons came to life? The only complaint I have abut the show besides Peter is that the episode with the ghost that says "rosebud" ruined Citizen Kane for me.
This show was fantastic, the writing was intelligent, not the pop-crap done now. I loved Janine's glasses and when I became bespectacled myself, I got a [less prominent] cat-eye frame. I loved Egon. Any man whose hobbies include collecting spores, molds and fungus is a babe in my book. We could get labs side by side.
So that a**hole from Full House replaced the very talented Lorenzo Music the voice of Carlton your doorman and Garfield? No wonder I hated that wretched voice so much! It went sadly downhill after that especially with the departure of JMS as well, my favorite episode being the Christmas one where they travel through time and capture Scrooge's Christmas ghosts! Also Slimer was annoying. Too bad this show couldnt have been an hour long in primetime!
