A true classic in every sense of the word. Let's hope that the show will be released on DVD.
I remember watching this series all the time 'back in the day'...I can't remember specifics, but I remember that I enjoyed it. Be nice if they'd show it on TV again.
I found a website that offers the entire 50 episodes on DVD.
I loved this show! I wish it would come out on DVD. Though year one was more romantic. I think this show was very underated when it ran. It could have run another year or two if in the second year if the writers hadn't scripted that everyone saw the captain. Especially Martha. To me that ended the fun and mystery to the show.
Never the less I love it. i have some old VHS copies that I burned to DVD that I watch from time to time when i get a yen for nostalgia and the good old classics from the 1960's
It never jumped! I like the Gene Tierney movie, she is one of my favorite movie actresses, but I actually loved this TV series more than the movie!
This show never jumped as far as I am concerned. I loved all the actors in it, most particularly the Captain (played beautifually by Edward Mulhare) and was heartbroken when it was cancelled. Comparing the movie and book is pointless, they were designed for two seperate audiences. I also think it is only fair that Candy and eventually Martha found out about him. I mean, how would you feel if you were left in the cark about the ghost? My feelings would be hurt. This show died way before it should have, and I am delighted that there is so much fan-fiction aboout this show!
Hello...I must have been in junior high when this
show was on. I do not remember great details about it but I do recall enjoying the show. All sitcoms then were a bit silly. I also liked the movie...liking both is possible and one does not
detract from the other. There is also a book
written in 1945 by R.A. Dick that the movie was
based on. Read that too.
I was only a little kid when this was being aired, and I enjoyed it very much. I caught a rerun years later and realized it was one of those unfortunate shows that appealed to me as a child, and not so much as an adult. To be fair, one could classify this show as...safe.
One day I stumbled upon the movie(with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney)on TCM - and it floored me.
It's a wonderful film, and if you like the show, do yourself a huge favor and see it!
Note to Fox studios...PLEASE Release this series to DVD!!!!
It didn't jump and many others have said it was a sweet little show and rave about Hope Lange. Damn right about Ms Lange!! When i was about 11 years old i read an old MAD comic which had the Captain appearing suddenly in the shower with Mrs Muir - of course you could only see their shadows on the shower curtains. It effected me in a big way, and after that, I wanted to be able to do like the Captain and "pop" into Mrs Muirs' life. C'mon, who wouldn't want that power?
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir started out on NBC in 1968 and was canceled by NBC at the end of the 68-69 season...ABC then picked up this wonderful series in 1969...But unfortunately was canceled at the end of the 69-70 season....With everything coming out on DVD's these days...we can only hope and prayer that this lost gem...YES, LOST GEM...will be released one day...I believe 52 or so episodes were produced and has been syndicated in the past on FX and now and then on TV Land...Hey they released the five or so episodes of that flop...My Big Fat Greek Life....So I'm sure they could release 50-ish eps of a sweet and charming sitcom...Baby Boomers would buy this series...I can only hope!
THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR was an ABC series based on the 1947 movie with Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney. This show was worth watching if for no other reason because it boasted the presence of the lovely Hope Lange, who is always worth watching. Edward Mulhare made a fine ghost and Charles Nelson Reilly was effective comic relief but it was Ms. Lange's presence that made this show worthwhile. Never jumped.
I thought this show never jumped. Like the posters above, I also thought as a child that Hope Lange was a pretty cool mom and very pretty as well. Wasn't as funny as please don't eat the daisies, but I liked the ghost angle. Now as an adult, I appreciate it for having the late Harry Nilsson on as a guest star once and letting him sing. The plot was really hokey, but to hear him sing Without Her with just an acoustic guitar gives me goose bumps.
I loved this show!!!!! Especially the 1st year. The romance between the captain and Mrs Muir was magical. The second year was not as romantic but special in its own way... and this show ended way too soon before its time. I loved the 1947 movie as well but can not compare the two. They are from different eras and both are great in different ways. I hear that Sean Connery may come out with a new movie version as soon as he approves a script with he himself playing the Captain. That may prove to be just as interesting and mind provoking as well, added to the long legacy of this classic originally written by R.A. Dick so many years ago
I LOVED this show. The first season was fantastic but the second season jumped (SLIGHTLY) when everyone saw the Captain. Martha could no longer give Carolyn that look with a "did you say something??". The tension of her hiding their relationship vanished once everyone saw him. Boo Hiss.
