David Morse is EXELLENT!Too bad this show was cancelled, more for not seeing him around anymore than for it being so great. He plays evil and good with equal talent and is unlike any other of those assemly line Ken-Doll actors.Shows concept was novel enough.
I can't think of a better cast being stuck in such a bomb. I watched because I like David Morse. Plus there was Charles Durning and Bebe Neuwirth and Donna Murphy. But the premise didn't make any sense. How does this guy make a living as a cab driver while he's running around helping people? It was a stupid premise. I wonder what this cast could have done with decent scripts and a believable premise.
Gambling priest, Ex-wife, writing ...gone. In its place a fake nun, and extremely dull stories. The magic was gone.
This show never jumped! I realize they were beginning to run out of ideas (I mean how many different ways and people can Mike help). But I felt the show had a real purpose/meaning. Yeah, sure he took money as a cop, but deep down inside he was really a good person. He was good to his son, his ex-partner and everyone he met. He realized he would never get his job back as a cop, so he made the best out of being a cab driver by helping people. I know what "Mike Olshansky" went through and there's nothing wrong with making good on everything else in your life. I hope they release this show on DVD sometime. I'll buy it the first day.
I don't think it ever jumped the shark. This was actually a great show with great acting, but it was preparing to die when it was shoved to the Saturday night time slot on CBS, where most shows go to die. A lot of people say it's not realistic, but hey, it's TV DRAMA!
Great show! The mood was realistic as were the sentiments. The lead always was a superb actor and the premise plausible. This of course got it cancelled. This will probably befall the upcoming Blind Justice with yet another actor I've always wished to see as a lead in a drama. The cancellation of this show demonstrates the low IQ of the average viewer but for the most part there is hope thanks to Medium.
I was an avid watcher of Hack. Loved the show, the tough as nails cabbie who helps the little man and the downtrodden. David Morse has had many supporting roles but this was his first good lead actor role and he played it well. The local Philly setting and guest appearances gave it a nice touch also. However, the brainiacs HAD TO TINKER WITH IT DIDN'T THEY?? The tension between Hack and his ex wife's character (would they get back together, what would happen next?)? GONE. The supporting character of the priest/friend/confidant Hack trusted? GONE! The edge possessed by Andre Braugher's character Marcellus? HISTORY!! Apparently the brain trust never heard of the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!!"
As much as I liked Hack, I think it jumped the shark through no fault of its own. CBS programmed the show in the worst possible night of the week and did only a so-so job of promoting it. Add to that the dark and somewhat hard to take premise of a disgraced ex-cop trying to redeem himself and you have a show that's already halfway up the ramp to the jaws of death before the first program is aired. And to the above poster-take your bigoted right wing political views and stick them where your head already is. Politics, to include legitimate criticism of the president, is fair game for any television show. Not everyone supports him-nor do they have to. Criticizing a show or even another poster for presenting a view with which you disagree is shallow, narrow minded, and sadly typical of the mindset of most Bush supporters.
To the previous poster: This is not the place for you to air your apparent bigotry against those who support the President (which last I checked according to to most the polls was over 50% so YOU are in the minority, just bow and accept it.) This is about the quality of a TV show. Also about the quality of character of its writers. I did like this show, and still like David Morse regardless of where he stands politically. I also can understand that this show is set in Philly, (which means that the majority opinion there is that of the Democratic Party) It's fine to hear the OCCASIONAL left leaning rant by a philly character, adds to the the realism. But, when it's done over and over again, it becomes socialist propaganda, like holding the majority audience down so the writers can sucker punch us with their erroneous political philosophy. First Monday, Picket Fences, and now Hack have all lost ratings and been canceled because of this crap. Maybe finally, these ultra-liberals who write these shows will realize they're insulting the majority of their audience when they ani-sermonize the real world public with their ill-informed opinions and get the message this time. They're talented artists but they should stay out of politics!
the first season of hack was great. loved it. but then they started to change with the second season. the priest friend of olshansky left, and they introduced all these other boring supporting characters. and worst of all, the CHANGED THE THEME SONG! the 1st season theme song was great! that was the reason i tuned into hack for the first time anyway.
Good show, never jumped. Too bad it was cancelled. Why is it that any show which contains an episode that portrays George W. Bush as the worthless douche bag that he is or which dares to criticize his policies or his "war on terror" (which we AREN'T winning) gets characterized as having a "liberal" bias? The imbeciles who posted the previous comments about such bias need to remember that in a democracy people have the right to think for themselves and get to criticize the government if they disagree with its policies.
I am totally offended by the one sided portrayal of the post-Sep 11 environment. The show went from being well-acted and interesting to a platform for the writers to rail against the President and push their liberal agenda.
Simply among the top two or three sitcoms ever made. A few quick contributions to the reminiscing, if I may: "Go take some graft, Murray." "This place looks like you got it free with a full tank of gas." "When I moved in, you were huddled in the corner eating gray spaghetti with a pair of tweezers!" Felix: [After the entire passenger complement, which, unbeknownst to Felix and Oscar, was a parachutists' club, bailed out] "Where is everybody?" Oscar: "They left." "Use your coaster, Murray." Felix (after cleaning Oscar's room): "How does it feel without all those nasty germs?" Oscar: "Lonely." And don't forget the hot fudge sundae: "She gave it to me." "I dreamed I sat in a hand, and it made a fist!" "Likes Army food." True comedy, folks.
To the above poster who stated that she and her husband would never watch “Hack” again after the “godson” episode: AMEN! I also saw this shameful excuse for an episode. Apparently the writers for “Hack” were following direct orders from their puppet masters in Hollywood’s liberal elite and chose to use this otherwise fine drama series as yet another platform for their ultra-liberal anti-American, anti-Bush politics. I, for one, have had my fill of the liberal elite’s endless attacks on President Bush and the War Against Terror (which, by the way, in case anyone hasn’t noticed, we are winning!). I may still watch “Hack” (if nothing else is on) again; however, because of the ‘godson episode’ I will never again be able to watch this show in the same light as I did before.
Okay, work with me here. This is a show about a 50 year old 6'6" cabbie in Philly who can't get a fare who isn't either a killer, running from a killer or killed. He walks into the police department he was discharged from any time he pleases and uses their equipment -lots of cabbies I know do that- he befriends such new characters as stray teenage boys who pretend to be blind -yeah, that happens in Philadelphia all the time- and a left-wing ex-nun who shows no trace of religion in anything she does or says. Show highlights include feminist serial murders, suicidal veterans, and a man avenging his father's arrest for transvestite sex in a car. I'm not sure the Republican party gets many donations from these guys. I love it, I watch it every week.
