He has a very limited repertoire. To Matthews, political subtleties are analogous to half-remembered movie quotations. Something like, "The Bush administration's take on foreign policy is like that Patrick Swayze movie..." *looks at Howard Fineman knowingly* "It's uh, his way or the highway..."

Sadly, he's the last small bit of dignity left on MSNBC. It must be awful as the only pundit left on the network that attempts to show objectivity, seeing a wave of far left "news people" undermining the network's reputation, and essentially hijacking it and turning it into the televised equivalent of Air America.
Yeah he was a speech writter for Democrats. Big Deal. Dick Morris worked for Clinton and stabbed them in the back as did George Stephanopoulos. He's still a conservative on many issues and loves to side with the Pope and bash WASP! (white Anglo Saxon Protestants) derogatorily, I'm agnostic by the way. He made his fortune smugly bashing Clintons so I don't know how liberal this guy is.

He was pro war for about the first 2 years of Iraq and bashed others as unpatriotic liberals or missing the big picture when they said it isn't working. A near echo of Bush.

The guy is a coward. He dodged Vietnam and when the deferments ran out he joined the peace corp. Said he'd never been around black people before that even though he grew up in Philly. And now he is going to tell me how great Obama is and all he knows about race even though he's never around black people except those in Africa trying to avoid a conflict in southeast Asia. screw you Chris. Total elitist Northeaster Catholic douche bag with white guilt. Not liberalism, just guilt about things he had no control over.
When I said bi-partisan, I was only referring to the weird, almost romantic, crushes he gets on male politicians.
There's really nothing particularly bi-partisan about Chris Matthews. He has been a political operative and flak for the Democrat party for many years. He was a speech writer for Jimmy Carter and was a top aide for Democrat Speaker Tip O'Neill. I have heard liberals complain that Matthews is 'too conservative' but having paid close attention to politics for the past 25 years or so, I have seen that, to most liberals nowadays, it seems that anyone to the right of Karl Marx is criticized as being too conservative. That is no exaggeration, BTW. Remember when GWB was called an arch-conservative? What a joke that always was. He has several centrist or even left-of-center leanings and always has. Look at his stance on border control and how his administration has spent more tax-payer money on big govt programs than even Clinton did! That's only two issues. Yet many liberals continue to call him an 'arch-conservative' merely because of a couple of issues they have a problem with.

No, Chris Matthews is no bi-partisan by any stretch of the imagination. His defenders may say that he is, but he is not. Watch Hardball for a while and make up your own mind!

Peace.
"Jumped march 11th when Mathews couldnt stop him self from praising Obamas speach. i thought for a moment Mathews was going to get on his knees and ask Barrack to marry him. I have never seen any thing more pathetic in my life"

Really Kelly? What about when he saw Bush in his flight suit, and started blathering on about how big his "package" was?

Or what about when he was talking about Fred Thompson, and couldn't get over how manly he was, and that he could smell the musk on him?

At least he seems to be bi-partisan with his man-crushes, but you're right about one thing, it's pretty pathetic.
Aside from the spitting and openly flirting w/the female commentators, can you honestly take a "journalist" seriously who says that a certain presidential candidate gives him a "thrill up his leg?"
Jumped march 11th when Mathews couldnt stop him self from praising Obamas speach. i thought for a moment Mathews was going to get on his knees and ask Barrack to marry him. I have never seen any thing more pathetic in my life.
i think obama's a wimp compared to hillary. think about it. here is hillary with standing obama's campaign, the republicans' and the media attack dogs',and holding hers own. obama just keeps whining like a litte baby. crying to everyone for protection. boo hoo for obama big baby. can't stand up for him self. he's all these different forces to help protect him from the big bad hillary. ain't that a shame.
Day one Jump, all Mathews does is fawn over Obama, nice. Im waiting for him to show up wearing an Obama for President pin. Plus when he does the Election coverage and dedate shows with his side kick keith Olbermann it is beyond pathetic. The two of them are like Laural and Hardy just not funny or entertaining. If NBC needs a good reason why this network is always third in the ratings look no further then the 7pm-9pm shows.
that time chris matthews was rude to a politician
Matthews just won't shut up. He asks a guest a question, and then refuses to let the guest answer. He talks andtalks and talks.
Matthews once said "I think with my tongue" Boy, ain't that the truth!
Some of the comments on this forum are quite amusing. I love the way obvious liberals throw the word 'neocon' around. Not just on this board but in general conversation regarding almost any Republican. For instance, I have heard President Bush called a neocon many times by many liberals. Bush has several liberal social ideals, and to call him a neocon has always been a joke from day one. A guy at work a couple years ago began spouting about Replublican neocons and I asked him to define the word. He was absolutely clueless. It is a word that these people are spoon fed. It is a talking point that means nothing to many people who use the term. They use it because they believe it to be a derogatory term for almost any Republican, and that's ALL they know about it. I am not saying all people are clueless as to exactly what the word means, but from from what I've seen, the vast majority who use it, do not.

As for Chris Matthews, this guy JTS whenever it was that he started answering his own questions. Most likely day 1. I stopped watching his show years ago because it was too hard to sit through with him interrupting his guests after asking them a question by answering it himself. I don't have transcripts, but, paraphrasing, it generally goes something like this:

Matthews - "So why did the president say what he said?"

Guest - "Well, I think that...."

Matthews - "I'll tell you why! He said it because.....!"

This is a typical Chris Matthews 'exchange'.

Hardball?? FUHGEDABOUDIT! This show could also easily be called 'Softball', depending on the guest.

JTS day 1.

Peace.
Having watched Matthews since his semi-regular appearences on McLaughlin Group as a token liberal years ago, he appears to be opportunistic phony that jumps between liberal and conservative stances depending which side he percieves to be winning at the time. When Dubya's ratings were up he said "there isnt anyone who doesn't like Bush unless they're a left-wing whacko", and Bush's head should be put on Mt. Rushmore for bringing peace to the region, (the Middle East). Now he's another rat fleeing the sinking ship while trying to deny he was even on it!
He's no liberal. Watch when someone says Reagan was a B list actor. Which he was, nothing wrong with that, few can be Gary Cooper, Cary Grant or Clark Gable. Anyway, he BLOWS up and say no he wasn't. He was A RATE! and I am not going to let you get away with that. You'd think someone just said the San Francisco Giants bombed pearl harbor.Get away with what? He was a B rate actor dude. He has always taken up for Reagan politically, said many times you'd be surprised how conservative he really is, not me always knew. Also says his father is a Republican and his brothers are. Only thing liberal about him was his act when working for Speaker O'Neill.

Oh and he hates this war if that liberal. Hey he bought their act for over 3 years which is 3 more than me. So he may no longer be a neocon but that doesn't make him liberal.
As a moderate liberal, I usually don't identify with his point of view, however I like him. There's something endearing about Matthews. I just wish he would turn down the volume, and stop interrupting people, but maybe he's just playing hardball.
