Where oh where can you get the summer bay high school uniform?
Here afre ten things which I have learned about Australia from watching Home And Away:
1) Australians who are sad or upset will invariably be found on the beach, staring moodily out to sea.
2) It is pointless to start a fight at an Australian high school, since an authority figure will immediately loom up from behind to quell any hostilities.
3) Australian teenagers can often appear to be anywhere from five to ten years older than their stated age. Many have wrinkles and sport alarmingly early male pattern baldness.
4) Even local residents of some years' standing can disappear without warning within a single episode. Sometimes it takes a mere telegram. Once gone, they seldom (if ever) return or even keep up communications.
5) To evade police and search teams, criminals need only run into the Australian bush, which will completely conceal them until they are ready to strike again.
6) It is always warm in Australia, and teenagers there go shirtless or wear skimpy outfits all year around.
7) There are no overweight Australian teenagers, and none go without a relationship for more than a few days.
8) After forty years of age, Australians put on weight and begin to live their lives vicariously through the young people.
9) There are no Aboriginal people in Australia. They simply do not exist.
10) Most Australians marry whilst still in their teens. However, one must be wary of attempting to hold any pre-wedding events (such as 'bucks nights'), because near-disaster will always ensue.

Home And Away is a treasure trove of cultural information. Use it well.
This show has become absoultely ridicioulous, including

1. Everyone looking so orange.. they must spend half of their yearly budget on cheap fake tan.
2. The Martha character being such a
s**t and no one calling her up on it at all. I mean, she's with a different guy every week and she's like the princess of Summer Bay
4. The ridiculous, over-sexualized storylines.
5. When Kirsty married the guy that raped her sister... um... and the girl that went out with this way older guy that raped another character... what is with the rape thing?
6. All the young kids on the show that can't act for c**p.

They must think their audience is really stupid as they keep pushing this dribble.
I hate Sally she leaves then returns like a bad case of herpes.
Surely the 2007 season finale when Sally's imaginary friend Milco turns out to be a real person who comes back to find her 20 years after he first appeared is a true shark jumping moment? Terrible!
When this show started off, it was actually worthwhile viewing. It had substantive plots, creative themes interesting characters and beautiful scenery. Unfortunately the writers of this show must have obviously decided it was too intelligent to be classified as a soap and soon it just became run-of-the mill bilge with characters you could care less about and storylines that were tedious and unpredictable. I watched a few episodes recently -it was terrible. I don't know why this dreck is still on air
I used to like Home and away until one day I discovered that every single episode had some tragedy. For the goddesses sake, can't these people have some normality in their lives? Every wedding these days has to have some tragedy. Jack and marthas wedding had a bomb blast. Sally and Brad's wedding resulted in sally not showing up. Kim and Rachels wedding had Kims car break down.

Another of my gripes is that hhere is not true disabled MAIN characters. Annie does not count, as it was not dyslexia, but a lack of a proper education that resulted in her inablity to read. H&A needs at least one physically disabled and one mentally disabled character. If they did do this, there should be no magic cures, like with maddies burns. They don't have to make a big deaL about the mentally disadvantaged character, just make it so that he/she is just different, have him/her interact with the other students normally. The student who was around during the preperations for the Sally/Flynn wedding is not counted, as he just seemed to be an insult.

Yet another thing I dislike about H&A is that there are no YOUNG single characters. Note that I say young, as there are plenty of older characters who are single. Not every teenager has a signifigant other. If, by chance a couple break up, guess what? both members of the former couple find new partners!
How can anybody watch this junk without aquiring extensive brain damage? I used to believe that Home and Away was glamorous and cool when I was a few years younger, but now I think about it I have absolutely no idea how I could have put myself through it. As H&A has been running for 20 or so odd years, the producers have become completely desperate for storylines and started killing people off. If a TV channel starts building up to a gigantic fire/helicopter crash/stalking epidemic, it means that it's getting a teeny tiny bit desperate for story lines. Channel 7 should take this off the air as I have a feeling the profits will probably start to drop. This show 'jumped the shark' from day one as it was just a cheap rip-off to rival Neighbours, which was a big hit for channel 10 in the eighties.
Home and Away has had some blips over the years...but remains an interesting and fun piece of australien television. Jade and Kirsty-NOT BEING TWINS- that jumped the shark a bit for me..but no other storylines have irritated me so much. I never cry at movies, but when Noah died i wailed and when Flynn died i weeped. thats what this show does to you! Agreed Cassie is obviously not 18, the actress is 24. And Drew's mum only had Drew when she was 14..so she should be 32 and he is 18 so i dont find that one so hard to deal with. Home and Away remains a great piece of television..although whether or not it will continue to shine after Sally's departure, remains to be seen.
Enough, already! This is so bad it's surreal. I caught up with this show after some time and assumed it to be about a group of twenty-somethings and their relationships. It was a genuine surprise to learn that it was actually the school holidays, and I tuned in one day to find the same people all decked out in school uniforms and studying for their High School Certificate (HSC). Oh yeah, heaps of 17-year-olds have forehead lines, facial wrinkles and thinning hair. Maybe that harsh Australian sun (or the local Summer Bay gene-pool) does this to people, but I'm betting it's just down to poor casting. Cassie looks more like a teacher than a student, and Drew's mother looks six years older than he does. Oh yeah, and by the looks of them, Belle needs a good meal or two and Mr Fisher should start attending those AA meetings again. This show doesn't just jump the shark, it almost seems unashamedly proud to do so. Day one, perhaps?

This show rules!!!!!! I love watching it and I would dream of living there and eating at the diner
I can't believe anyone would devote one minute of their life to this trash. This show is one hell of a sorry excuse for entertainment. If the average Australian is growing up with this as one of their influences, then Heaven help us all. This shows pushes the Evolution of mankind backwards !
I just have four words for you ... Home and Away ROCKS!
I've been watching it ever since i can remember and not once did it even get close to jumping the shark.
There's always new plots and charcters that keeps giving the dramatic atmosphere i love. Hope it never ends!!
Definately the adding of the Sutherland family. Of course they did everything humanly possible to make these peoples lives miserable. Affairs, switched at birth, drugs, the whole shabang. And what was with the chick dating her sisters rapist???!!!

It was also the point where you knew that Home and Away was going to be based around the "hot" teens from now on, instead of the normal looking and relatable characters.
