Anytime a gay/lesbian character is introduced into the scenario, I quit watching. I'm sick and tired of the force feeding of the populace by the Hollywood mentality of the lifestyle they find so appealing.
House has never jumped. Yes some story lines aren't always the most popular (too much 13 anyone?) but even at its worst this is the best show on TV today!
For Bill,
I'm not an anthropologist, just a thinker and a woman. You asked why women would find a character like House sexy. In my opinion, bad boys, if they like you, would protect you. You can't get all tingly for a wimp and I think it's the same thing. On a very deep bio level you want somebody with power who will protect your child and provide for it and yourself against a mean old world (remember, I'm talking deep-seated biology here). Same thing with rich men. People think that women are only in it for what they can buy, and no doubt in modernity some must be, but I think it goes deeper. A rich man obviously has power and the means to care for the next generation. Biology explains why men are so drawn to youth and beauty while women are drawn to experience and power. The female youth and beauty indicate fertility and probable lack of genetic disease and, again, male power would provide protection for the next generation. We can say what we want about equal opportunities NOW, but way back when it was dog eat dog and if you wanted your genes to survive, you needed to pick well.
Also, the scruffy beard probably has a testosterone indicator element for us ladies.

House almost jumped but was saved by 13's lesbianism.
If they start with that every episode then I'll watch it forever.

Ula said "House jumped the shark when he was dreaming about the soldier in the third season. Up to this episode - everything could be rationally explained - this however - not. "
actually this is not true. He dreamed about the guy because he saw that guy kissing Cuddy a few months earlier and it stayed in his mind.
Anyway, House has never jumped.. it might if this season doesn't add in those short Clinic scenes...

I think this show is designed to jump the shark, and if it wasn't for rabies or hantavirus or anthrax or some other absurd medical condition, we'd be dissapointed every week. We suspend our disbelief with the excuse that he's "the best in his field," so that's why all the crazies come to him.
Hrm, you say a drug-addicted super-genius, problem-solving, arrogant, mastermind misanthrope meets every kind of ludicrous case in his field and rarely fails to acquire a solution?
Geez, if you like House, then you'll love it's parent series, "Sherlock Holmes"...

How anyone can watch this show and not think it jumped the shark is beyond me. It has jumped so many times it is like watching a hop scotch tournament. You have a Psychopathic drug addict going around abusing everyone he meets (patients and staff) and they all bow and kiss his ring. Plus he looks like some one who just staggered if from skid road looking for a place to flop. How any one of them would let him touch them without first bathing and delousing him is truly a mystery. Then there is Wilson, a supposedly intelligent man who keeps coming back time after time to be abused. This leads one to believe he should have a mental evaluation. And of course there is Cuddy, the Chief of Staff??? who lets this Psycho run the Hospital. And don't forget that he stole a patients drugs, stole Wilson's prescription pad and forged prescriptions and also took a parking pass away from a handicapped woman. And what he did to a cop would land anyone else in prison. Nice guy. This show is like watching reruns of " One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest".
The new team is only realistic. The first group of fellows were given three-year fellowships - they stayed as long as they could have. The new team has hardly had time to become as interesting as the old one, and viewers are less likely to give them a chance since they resent them for replacing the first group of 'ducklings'.
The new characters are alright. With a fairly wide range of characters, it was really only a matter of time until someone who was gay or bisexual came into the show (since up to 10% of Americans are estimated to be homosexual, and probably more are bisexual). I wish it could have been a more 'normal' character who had the unusual sexuality, but whatever. Thirteen's bisexuality doesn't bother me very much. Taub is boring, but okay. Kutner is the only new fellow who could really turn into an interesting character, though watching Harold and Kumar has probably added to my perception of him somewhat.
My biggest problem with the new fellows is that they seem to have no given specialties or strengths as doctors. Yeah, Taub used to be a plastic surgeon, but all that allows him to do is find ways to hide medical procedures (like when he suggested giving a woman breast implants to hide the lung surgery she didn't want to have to explain to her employers later). Thirteen and Kutner's ways of working with medicine are still largely unknown.
The old team had previous experience as doctors, and it showed (whereas the new ducklings are apparently complete newbies). Foreman is a neurologist, Cameron specializes in infectious disease, and Chase is a surgeon. They existed not just as soap opera characters but as functioning doctors. This new team isn't yet as well-rounded as they were.
Another problem seen in this later shift from "medical drama" to "soap opera... with occasional medicine" is the added focus on characters' relationships. The formerly interesting exotic diseases, Lupus, etc. have taken a backseat to exploring the many ways in which characters can be paired off with each other.
That isn't such a completely bad thing, though. It's a shift away from what the show used to be, but it isn't terrible. It's actually pretty interesting sometimes, though spoilers bearing news of impending Foreman/Thirteen have me a little worried that writers are just trying to see how much they can get away with.
Even House and Wilson's questionable relationship is bearable to watch. If they wound up a couple, I wouldn't die - though I doubt they'll ever do anything more than the same vaguely gay fanservicey stuff that's been going on since the show began. They're very close friends, and it's all too easy to see that as having some sort of romantic subtext.
Surprisingly, the only thing that has fallen flat in latest episodes is that which was interesting in the beginning: the House/Cuddy thing. It was dragged out too long. After five seasons, their chemistry has just turned into a predictable routine, and their kiss was awkward. I felt dirty after watching something so painfully strange as that moment was.
As that whole episode was, in fact. There was almost no buildup to that episode at all, which made it suffer. Nobody cared much about Cuddy's baby because they hadn't been given time enough to realize fully what was happening or tension enough to get interested in the events involving it. Most characters were pushed out of character, starting with Taub's random hatred towards single parents and finishing with the possibly shark-jumping Huddy kiss.
That episode was a definite failure. The next might make up for it, and it might make the series even stronger by showing that it can recover quickly from a flat-out horrible episode.

the only thing saving this show is Kumar. cant picture Wilson the same after watching that guy in Dead Poets Society. Ive been on a good run of watching the patients die in the reruns shown which is intriguing cuz im used to seeing the person miraculously saved in the last 3 min of the show. its like watching the power rangers lose or somethin. im not sayin death is good but its nice to see the realism in how not everyone can be saved. and yes i referenced the power rangers.
I was felt as uncomfortable and dirty after the House/Cuddy make out fest as the actors seemed to be afterwards. I love house it is one of my favorite shows...but if House and Cuddy do it...the Shark has jumped.
It hasn't jumped, not yet anyway. I still like the show, it has done some original stuff. The new cast hurt it, but removing them at this point helps no one, since time was devoted to the new cast.
I think overall the show has about a couple of seasons left in it, I would be surprised if it went beyond 7-8.

I can not tell you how mad/disappointed I am that they've introduce a lesbian character into this show. This show was always above token everythings...now this!!?!?!? Crap Crap Crap. Is every show written by a bunch a gays that have to put it in each show in order to promote some political agenda...? Why? I'm sick sick sick of it and now it's in my favorite show. House was always smarter than this
I have loved this show since the first episode, but last night when Cuddy and House kissed, I yelled "Shark Jump" at the TV.
As to the people that keep calling House's assistants "interns". Not hardly. A medical intern is someone just out of med school. A doctor who graduates med school typically spends one year as an intern, then two years as a resident, then up to four years pursuing a specialty.
The original assistants all have specialties (Foreman was a neurology specialist, Cameron was an infectious diseases specialist, I don't know Chase's specialty, but I would assume surgery or neo-natal intensive care, since he spent some time in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit in a few episodes after his father died.) Since they all had specialties, then they were at least 5 years out of med school, hardly interns.
Kudos to all who recognize that House = home = homes = Holmes, as in Sherlock. Furthermore, House's street address is 221 and his apartment is B, and Sherlock lived at 221b Baker Street. Also, House's best friend is Dr James Wilson, which sounds alot like Sherlock's best friend, Dr John Watson.
Question for all the ladies out there: Why do you find House so sexy anyway? Why would anyone want to hook up with a man who you KNOW is gonna treat you like $h!T?

I knew it! House kissing cuddy. That's not making love, but that's bad enough. To be honest, at first I thought I may not mind it as much as I had said in my earlier comment, but when he just left and tried to be a player, I was like, "huh"? House, you need to feel so lucky a woman like Cuddy would do that. That made me not want them to be together all over again. Women do tend to like powerful men like House, even when they are a-holes, because they have money and are still right about their comments, though people may not like the way they say things. Usually though they have at least a little bit of a personality. House has no personality. He is just a jerk. They can still save the show by bringing back the old characters and making House a little nicer and his co-workers actually able to solve a problem without him. Maybe have an episode where one of them makes House look stupid and he changes. I don't know, but they need to do something. These episodes are still starting to look the same and drag on.
