Whatever happened to Anatomy Jones? Best part of the show.
Seeing the calvalcade of dreck that MTV is now, I find it hard to fathom that as recently as 1996 they actually produced a decent show here and there. This was a very unique, underrated game show that sadly didn't fit the criterion of their other programming (pure, mind-numbing idiocy). I remember the toss-up question had the category of "Eli Whitney," and the questions in the category would all have the same answer--Eli Whitney. I also loved the giant brain and the final round, which were based upon a category selected by the contestant themselves prior to the show (kudos to the writers for catering to the guy who chose the "Fletch" movies). As MTV shows come and go quickly, leaving a mere brief remnant in my mind (remember SQUIRT TV, BUZZKILL or the SUPER ADVENTURE TEAM or whatever they were called), I have a surprising fondness for this one.
For those who aren't aware, Idiot Savants was a week-long competition. That is, the fours players stayed on for the whole week, with the highest scoring player at the end of the week taking home the grand prize. Now, with that in mind, can someone explain to me exactly why the doofs at MTV decided to PRE-EMPT the Friday episodes, the episodes where the game is supposed to come to a climax. And they did it not once, not twice, but THREE FORKING TIMES, all three times with a different show (the dreck that was the Rodman World Tour stand out in my mind as one of the usurpers). Note to MTV: if you don't like a show and to cancel it, go ahead and pull the trigger. But don't jerk around the fans of the show by cutting out the most important part. (Of course, in the wake of Tom Green and Jackass, I'll never watch MTV again, but the same goes for all networks. See something through before axing it.)
This was one of the best game shows that i have come across so far. It was so incredibly funny, in so many ways. I really loved how they changed the buzzers every time, and the personally chosen end round. I loved that show so much, i cry that they took it off of the air.
Never jumped! Classic game show. I loved the final round- the winner pre-selected a topic he/she knew the most about. They did a lightning round of tough questions on that subject (pre-researched). Those final topics were always interesting- Nuclear Physics, F-Troop, 1930's Jazz, Gilligan's Island... I remember one kid chose the "Fletch" movies. His level of detailed knowledge was truly disturbing.
Never. It never had the chance, since MTV plugged the first almost immediately. An intelligent cousin to Remote Control. This was one of the best shows MTV has shown. Smart questions, a funny host and a great concept made it a joy to watch. I don't think it even lasted 6 months. Maybe it had to do with the taste of the average MTV viewer.
