Grace was only about 44...since itas said Tom, her TA, was 24, and she was 20 years older than he. This show was the best I have ever seen...let's get it on DVD!!!
This show jumped in the first episode when they said Jack died and Bobby married the girl Jack was crushing on and went on to become president after jack had been dead several years. What was the damn point of watching the show when they just told everyone how it all ends?
This show NEVER jumped!!! There wasn't a single moment that ruined the show...they slowly killed a very good concept with writing that didn't seem to commit to a direction, scheduling that didn't allow the show to gain momentum and left it competing first with Desperate Housewives and then with American Idol. The teeny issues with teens sleeping around in their fathers churches was lame and WB typical. They could have done so much better with this show, but for every great episode, there was a lackluster episode to follow. This could have continued as a great show for a sophisticated crowd - an alternative to all the melo-dramas and reality shows.
They try to tie every story with something Bobby did during his Presidency. Like the chess episode. Its boring and ridiculous.
Jack and Bobby jumped Day 1. The actor who played Bobby was so bad and never ever in the entire season was able to convince me that he could be President. And that episode where we find out Bobby became a minister and turned the White House bowling alley into a chapel for rip roaring services, give me a break. Show was doomed from Day 1.
This show isn't even close to being historically accurate. The producers ripped off every other teen bop tv melo-drama and came up with something beyond stupid. I guess the only thing they got right is that there are no parents to control the family.
I can understand why most of you would think "Jack & Bobby" jumped when we all found out that Bobby would be president, because it sort of robbed the show of the novelty that we'd still be guessing who would be president even after the show is cancelled. But I don't think the show has jumped too far,it only just jumped a little 4 me. So maybe it does have too much of that wishy-washy teen drama spirit in it. But hey, what DOESN'T these days? Despite his whiney geekiness & being the 1 who becomes president,Bobby is an enjoyable character(I even know a kid who looks just like him). I don't really like Jack though, his situations(especially in the most recent episodes) rub me the wrong way. As 4 Grace,I don't mind her,her pot smoking,or her awkward relationship with that weird Tom guy who's like HALF her age. The supporting cast is fine too, like Courtney,Missy,Marcus,Warren,Mr. Benedict, and Grace's gay brother. I even took interest in that short love interest between Bobby and Ellen("Dex" the goth chick). My last word:give this show at least some sort of a chance, there are much lamer shows on tv than this anyway.
The show wasn't on steady feet since the first episode when they revealed the identity of future President McCallister. Still, it was worth watching for the adult storylines and, specifically, the character of Grace, one of the only over-50 mothers on TV actually played by an over-50 woman, the amazing Christine Lahti. This woman is great. I'm a Republican, and I still think her Democrat-happy character is absolutely wonderful. She's by far my favorite character and one of the most powerful actresses I've seen in a long time. Yet even she hasn't lately been able to save the show from the shark's bite. The show has been deteriorating for a while, specifically as the relationship between Jack and Bobby in "Jack & Bobby" and the whole link to the presidential future of Bobby has been shoved into the background in favor of the tired teen soap opera plots that plague WB. First we have Bobby and the ultra-creepy goth chick. Yeep. Then Jack starts carrying on a love triangle with his ex-girlfriend and the girl he has a huge crush on. Tom Cavanagh was a nice addition as Grace's brother, and things were looking up but they quickly plummeted again when Grace hooked up and started sleeping with her assistant and Jack went to bed with his ex-girlfriend, a brain dead blonde, in her father's church while he was out of town surrounded by creepy candles. It looked like she was part of a cult and was going to roast Jack alive. Both these events occurred in the last episode before winter hiatus and even though the show is returning at the end of January I doubt I will be. At any rate, what went from a show about a dysfunctional mother and her two sons struggling to live under her shadow has evolved to Grace being the only even remotely solid character (if you can call her that) in the shadow of a whiny, obnoxious Jack and the equally whiny and obnoxious Bobby who barely ever even interact with each other and spend all their time agonizing about girls. As of the last episode, Bobby has also taken on Jack's role and the two of them just take turns ripping on Grace every week. Face the music: The problem isn't Grace, it's Jack, and the cancerous affect he has on their family. Meanwhile, Bobby is already going through puberty and the show isn't even a year old. We're doomed! I will admit, the show could be turned around, but somehow I doubt it will happen... it just seems to be getting worse.
So Bobby was a Republican and then switched because he saw the light, huh? More likely would be that he started out as a Democrat and got out because he was tired of being surrounded by tape-loop lecturing PC intensoids who all reminded him of his Mom ("All right, that does it! Eric Cartman, you respect other cultures this instant!"). Man, this kid's got so many issues that I'd hate to see what a real McCallister administration would be like.
Its WWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY too early to figure out whether and When Jack and Bobby Jumped the shark but if it has it would be when Jack and his Girlfriend had sex and the complications of the aftermath.
i almost jumped when Bobby started hanging out with the punk girl who looked like 10 years older than him, but i think this show brings something fresh for tv. The dialogues are much more deep, well thought and elaborate than most of the other shows, and confronts issues that are very appealing, at least for me!! Besides, judging so much all of these prime time shows sucks all the fun out of watching them to be entertained and get into all of this different worlds that tv brings us. Great show!!! Excellent cast, only.. leave the punk girl out of it, pppleaseeee!!!
Jack & Bobby is easily the best new TV show of the 2004 -2005 TV season. Each episode combines several different plotlines around a single theme that mirrors something that will occur during Bobby McCallister's presidency. Some posters here have a problem with the fact that we learned who the Prez would be in the first episode. I'm glad they did this. I would have been annoyed if each episode had the gimmick of "which brother is it going to be?" The future scenes would have had to be extremely unspecific and when the secret was finally revealed it would have been major shark jumping time. Instead, we can now explore in depth what makes the boy into the president and how his relationship with his brother plays into that. I also love how this show breaks stereotypes. We have a liberal intellectual mother who is also narrow-minded and judgmental and a Republican who is trying hard to cope with being a single dad. Both of these characters try and often fail to hold to their high idealistic standards. Then we have the boy who will be President. He's a nerdy but pugnacious eighth grader who does a lot of stupid stuff but will eventually grow up to be an idealistic Republic turned Independent president who is also a minister. Granted this show has flaws. Some of the relationships are already becoming tedious and some of the supposedly monumentally emotional episodes (which to the writers is apparently every episode) come off a bit underwhelming, but the show has an incredible amount of potential and an intriguing high-concept so I hope it sticks around for a while.
It jumped when we found out that it was the dorky, socially retarded younger brother who becomes a Republican president despite coming from a liberal, pot-smoking mother and a Mexican father. Plus, he marries his brother's love interest as well. And apparently the critics can look past these ridiculous contrivances and still call it a great show. Also, I'm sure the documentary-style interviews that take place in 2041 seemed unique at first but the idea quickly became pretentious by the second episode.
Finding out the wheezy, dorky, insightful little brother was going to be president? MY GOD!!! What kind of shit is this? My wife and I were expecting that this was going to have a relationship with the Kennedy family, like these kids were the product of frozen sperm from Jack and Bobby Kennedy or something.
I really think this show jumped the shark from day one, yet, I still tuned in occasionally to see where it was headed. I wasn't intrigued one bit! The flashbacks/flash forward sequences are much too distracting to stay focused. But what really got me was the "relationship" between Bobby and the pale faced goth chick! Come on! What true goth chick would find anything appealing about some nerdy kid like that!
