WFT happened to this show!? The first season was good. Not great, but it had potential. Liked Christina Applegate. Liked the dad's Archie Bunker Lite. Liked the two brothers. Liked the family restaurant where Jesse worked. Perfectly fine sitcom. Then for the second season...WFT happened!? The family and the restaurant are gone and suddenly 'Jesse' has been mutated into a low-rent 'Friends' knock-off. Text-book case of shark jump by "retooling." Has there EVER been a show that was overhauled in this way for the better?
NBC completely ruined this show by doing away with Jesse's dad and brothers. The show that was all about Jesse and her friends completely sucked and ended up getting cancelled in the second season.
I agree that the show jumped when Jesse's father and brothers disappeared (without adequate explanation). The brothers were hilarious.
you all can think what you want but i liked it, common it aired in the uk so obviously it cant be that bad, the only complaint i have is, diego wasn't in it enough
I really liked this show. First season was very good, but second was just too similar to Friends. It was still good show, but it wasn't same again. Oh, btw, It was first time I saw Christina Applegate (because Married with children wasn't on TV in my country). I started to watch mwc on one foreign TV only because of her and - just after 1 month - I realized that it's better than anything else. So this is the main reason I like Jesse so much.
The show jumped when Jesse's entire family was killed or removed from the show. One day she is a waitress in her fathers bar and the next she is a nurse. What gives? Applegate is best when she wears short skirts, high heels & cleavage tops.
The show was really funny. First season was great. If it never came back for a second season the shark jump would have to be when the mute brother spoke. My guess is that they didn't like the ratings (after friends was always a rough slot...NBC never gives it a chance) and knew they were going to overhaul it when they had him speak. THe speaking was nothing compared to the whole cast change. I mean, the family members, especially the father, IMHO, made the show. THen to just get rid of them and pretend they didn't exist. Come on!
This show did a major jump once they got rid of the 2 brothers and the father. The brothers were hilarious! Much better than the new characters that were introduced on the second season. The black nurse was funny, I admit. But! How the hell were we supposed to believe that that retarded doctor passed medical school? And honestly...what nurses aide goes to work in the type of outfits that Jesse went to work in. Come on!
I enjoyed this show, not least because it starred two of my favourites, Christina Applegate & Jennifer Milmore, and later had Jacqueline Obradors too...........Woo-hoo! Though getting rid of a lot of characters (esp. family members who are then never referred too again) is a classic sharky symptom, I think that "Jesse" actually got much better in the second season: they kept the kid and instead of having Jennifer's hair change colour from week to week (red, blonde, black, brunette) they gave her to us in shorts instead,so materially adding to the sum of human happiness (MY happiness anyway). I can't say I cared much for Dr. Danny, but he did provide Jennifer's character with a life beyond just being Jesse's friend, so that was an advance, and Kurt was fantastic, especially his competitive dancing. (As for Kurt being a gay stereotype, I'm not sure he was supposed to be gay: I thought his was more of a Cliff Claven sort of a situation, i.e. celibate and likely to remain so for a loooong time). The major problem with the second series was the introduction of the 'Irma' character. Though I'm crazy about Jacqueline Obradors, and though she was great here, the whole scenario had a definite 'Ross & Rachel' feel to it, specifically the Ross-dates-Julie-(a girl he knew in his past....sound familiar?) episodes. The general idea here is that a good, attractive actress is used as human livebait (maybe SHARKBAIT, hmm?) so as to make two main characters realise how much they want to be together...............in reality it means that the writers have run out of ideas for the relationship but won't kill it off or resolve it simply.........(the writers on "Friends" had the nerve to do this twice more, first with Ross and the bald-headed girl, and then when Chandler thought he was gonna lose Monica to Richard). Anyway, I'm sad to see the show go under.
It would still be on if it was on must see tv Thursday. CBS has IT'S Monday line up,ABC use to have it's hit friday night lineup and NBC has Thursday i mean crap like Just Shoot me w/that annoying f**k wad David Spade is on but good stuff like Jesse and Working were cancelled what the fuck is wrong w/nbc a least they have Friends,Will & Grace and Fraiser.I mean NBC should be dead on Monday's
NBC made it jump. This was a very funny show,That only lasted 2 yrs.Because they felt like they had to shuffle it to Monday. Nothing survives on NBC if it's on Monday.Same as Suddenly Susan it went from Thursday to Monday except It jumped the shark around the 2nd season and Caroline In The City got cancelled after 4 yrs on Monday nights and it was a really good show to.
