Gomer goes civilian vote

Coming off 5 successful years of Gomer Pyle USMC, CBS decided to let Jim Nabors take a whack at his own variety show. The Jim Nabors Hour did well enough in the ratings, and gave continuing paychecks to longtime friends Frank Sutton & Ronnie Schell.

However, the (false). gay marriage rumor to Rock Hudson scared off CBS and they nixed the Jim Nabors Hour after that first year or so.

Not long after that, they also pulled the plug on long time favorites such as The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres.

In this day of DVD collections, perhaps the Jim Nabors Hour can be revived for us old-timers.
Would love to be able to see this show again for it's sheer camp value!
I remember this show. It kicked ass when he sang The Impossible Dream, Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine and My Baby Loves Lovin'. But it is kinda creepy to see Sergeant Carter go through the dance line and get his "civi" shirt torn off.
This variety show (post Gomer Pyle) didn't last too long. It was very similar to the Carol Burnett Show. Besides Jim Nabors, Frank Sutton and Ronnie Schell (sp?) both also from Gomer Pyle, were regulars. It was a bit too disturbing seeing Gomer and Sargeant Carter in civvies..Hey, aren't you guys supposed to be in 'Nam getting your balls blown off??
