This show was one of the funniest productions ever and It's a just plain wierd that it isn't more highly regarded.

Most people I mention it to can't even remember it. It's plots and dialogue were just perfect subversive/alternative humour, never pulling punches or pandering to left-wing pc conformity. In a way it's good it ended so soon, as it never had the chance to get anywhere near jumping.
This show fell victim to the bastardization of the network. They didn't treat it right, thus it failed horribly. The Job was an awesome show, even if Leary couldn't go as R-rated as usual. It's a crime it never got a REAL chance.
Day ONE!!! Having read the above comments I am incredulous that ANYONE could possibly stand this crap. Dennis Leary's character was a pathetic low life I felt no sympathy for WHATSOEVER!!! The show was about as funny as a scrotum tear. The above comments praising this tripe prove that Lortab addiction is far more rampant than anyone ever imagined.
Although this was a great show and I don't think it really ever jumped, I thought having Dennis Leary's girlfriend first insist that he meet her parents and then the three of them ordering him to tell his wife about their relationship was pretty stupid and unrealistic. Also, the episode in which he invited his girlfriend to his partner's house party (thinking that his wife would have left by then) was incredibly stupid. I don't care how good looking his girlfriend was, no man would have ever agreed to tell his wife about his "gummah"!!
One of the best shows ever on TV! Right up there with Bakersfield P.D., Crime Story, Homicide, and even The Sopranos! I will dearly miss it!
This show was hysterically funny! I remember one episode in particular where Leary's precinct is running an undercover sting operation in a massage parlor. The masseuse is so...ahem..."talented" that other members of the precinct start enjoying her services until Leary's married partner is busted by fellow officers from another precinct who are also running a sting at this same massage parlor. I know a number of people who despise Denis Leary, but The Job made maximum use of his comedic style. One of the best dark comedies ever shown on television!
Fantastic show. Biting, dark, smart, not afraid to take chances, there's too many good things to say. Each episode was better than the last and you could see the growth. Dennis Leary is perfect for his role as Mike and all the other supporting actors easily held their own. But, of course, it was cancelled and somehow shit like My Wife and Kids and According to Jim was renewed. Is it any wonder why most of TV is such a vast wasteland? The Job should nave been given more of a chance to find an audience.
This show was very funny. Television needs more characters with very few redeeming values such as Dennis Leary's character "Mike". The guy treats everyone, even his friends, like his personal pawns to get whatever he wants. He keeps getting into trouble and for some reason, you want him to succeed. My favourite t.v. moment in the last while was the episode where Mike's mistress is going to confront his wife and he's stuck at a murder scene. I can't believe this creative show was canned and yet they have so many mediocre sitcoms that are so similar to each other.
ABC, Why did you cancel this show? WHYYY? I will never forget it. NEVER. You have *so* many crap comedies on now, they make me want to puke. 'The Job' actually made people laugh, and actually had interesting/hilarious plots. Look what you have now... According to Jim, Life With Bonnie, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, My Wife and Kids, and George Lopez?! They all are horrible. You guys at ABC made a BIG mistake canceling The Job.
This show was first rate. I have yet to find another show since that I had felt so compelled to watch. The management at ABC are idiots for dropping this show.
I've come to the same conclusion about Denis Leary that a lot of others have on this board. Whether you like this show or not, Leary is an intriguing actor who's probably best tailored for live theater. There's nothing wrong with that - comedic acting requires the greatest minds thespian cultures have to offer. But the paychecks for being on T.V. are nice. He should stick to videotaping his live gigs. They're fun to watch. This show was supposed to be about a cop with shaky personal morals. Even though I consider myself open-minded about T.V. characters who have little character, I'd have to say that this show was a little too morally bankrupt for my taste. I'm not passing judgment or searching for role models. Leary can do better.
I was hoping The Job would satisfy the need for Adam Ferrara to be on TV where everyone could appreciate his extreme good looks and excellent comic timing. Alas this was the same situation where Caroline in the City leaves me. TV needs more Adam Ferrara!
I cannot believe they cancelled this show. I got the privilege of watching it in the UK on BBC Choice and found it so funny - especially once you had seen a couple of episodes and got into the characters in the show - does anyone know if there is any chance HBO or another TV company will pick it up if ABC do not plan to reprieve it?
I've always liked Denis Leary, and this show had me hooked from the pilot. The characters were all different people unto themselves, and the whole lot of them were the most dysfunctional, irrepressible, self-centered bunch of jerks since the Seinfeld gang. The storylines, while hilariously outlandish at times (Mike getting trapped at gunpoint in the bathroom, Frank and Tommy playing a "Musical Chairs" of sorts with another cop and a dead body, the guys dressing up as janitors to move a dresser in a woman's apartment so they could spy on her while she did yoga in the nude), were entertaining as hell and the dialogue was hysterical. The Job was the only thing I watched ABC for, and now it's gone. But this is the same network that canned Sports Night - apparently those morons can't or don't recognize the only good thing it has when it's right in front of their faces. Here's hoping Comedy Central picks up the repeats.
How could they cancel this show. It is the greatest thing ever!!!! Did they need to air an extra episode of Drew Carey, a show that died several years ago but nobody has pulled the plug on it, or an episode of According to Jim or any of the scores and scores of shit that they have! BTW, Disney messes every thing up, they need there own category.
