I totally love this show. Hyacinth represents someone we all know, a woman pretending to be more than who she actually is. I find it extremely amusing that she pretends to be from a well-to-do family, when in reality she is from the "ghetto". It's so hilarious that she insists on people calling her "Mrs. Bucket (Boo-kay)" instead of "Mrs. Bucket (Buck-et)"! She's a self-absorbed, faker at best...I know many people of all races who should be able to see themselves in Hyacinth. I must tell you, this black american female thinks KUA Rocks!
I'm twenty-four, and faithfully watch Keeping Up Appearances every Saturday night on PBS. I find it to be hilarious.

Some people, apparently, have no sense of humor.
What do you mean you have to be 90 to think this show is funny? I like keeping up apearances and find it funny, I guess that means I'm 90 years old right? I laugh at Are you being served so I must be a geezer. The guy has no idea what he is talking about. I wonder what shows he actually does like.
Another great British comedy, underestimated by yankee audiences and...
Ah, good. Ed Whitson, the anti-PBS troll is here too. Oh well. I shall just ignore him, like Hyacinth does when people tell her they're too busy to accept her invitations for tea.
My mother was in some ways very much like Hyacinth -- not so extreme, but she felt that things had to be done in a specific way, and anyone who didn't do things her way was somehow inferior. I thoroughly enjoy the show and feel that it actually improved after the first season. The addition of Emmett provided an excellent foil for Hyacinth's posturings. I also think that starting with season 2, Mary Millar was a much better choice for Rose than Shirley Stelfox from season 1 -- Mary was much more believable as a femme fatale (well, homewrecker) and in appearance, as Rose was supposed to be younger than Hyacinth.
The final member of the triumverate of awful Britcoms (the others are 'Are You Being Served?' and 'As Time Goes By'). Like all the other Britcoms, this show is the same joke repeated over and over and over and over. Further proof that PBS has outlived its usefulne.

You have to be in your 90s to think this show is funny.
KUA is a delicious satire of snobbery, and in the end, Hyacinth gets her come-uppance.

...well, most of the time.

She always comes up with some plan to get herself looking superior, and you always wonder how it's going to backfire. It's almost never predictable.

When she does get her come-uppance, it gets me laughing.
While it is logically impossible to jump the shark on the first episode since nothing has changed withing the first episode, I voted for it. I love British Television, I could not stand this show since it was so frustrating to watch. It simply wasn't funny, and was more annoying that anything. I suppose that the creators intended to make Hyacinth as despicable as possible, they did too good a job and just made me get angry at her while watching it. I'll stick to Last of the Summer Wine and Father Ted.
Oh yeah, KUA was the bomb. Far as I'm concerned, it never jumped, it simply quit while it was ahead. My family watches it and Ar You Being Served? every Sat. on PBS, and it's actually one of the few shows that all three of us can agree on. Now if they'll just put Mr. Bean back on, my Sat.'s will be perfect.
I'm sorry, but I have never even cracked a smile during any one of these episodes that I've watched. I'd like to, but it's just not funny, and I just cannot believe how many reviewers find this show hilarious. The only reason I now catch any bit of the show is that it's a lead-in to As Time Goes By, which I think is an absolutely wonderful British comedy.
I loved this show and it was always good.

I admit bias: My mother used to dress a lot like Hyacinth though she was more like Daisy.

A foavorite from the show -

Rose:"I'm going to write me memoirs - I'll be in me room!"
Onslow:"Blimey! The divorce court's be overflowing in aweek afte rit comes out . . "
Rose(Rushes back in room}"How do you spell'Memoirs'?"
Onslow:"M-E-M-O-I-R-S"
Rose:"Thanks you." [Goes back in room]
Daisy:"It's so comforting to be married to an intellectual man . . "{Looks at him lovingly}
Onslow{Gives her horrified look}
Rose{Rushes in again}"How do you spell'Virgin'?"
Onlsow;"Flippin' 'eck, Rose, how far back are you going!?!?!?"
I just watched the episode of KUA where the new vicar is coming to visit. Rose dashes outside with him and the vicar's wife came out and said to Daisy, "Mrs. __________"where did your sister take my husband. Will you please tell me the surname of Onslow?

One time when I heard it, it sounded like "Singleton." Is it?
Recently picked up this show on PBS. LOVE IT! So far, I declare it never jumped. Hyacinth is hilarious, as are her friends and family (those poor people!).
Truly love this show but I always thought the premise of Emmitt being "recently divorced" rather than just being gay was odd. Daisy's husband is ONLSLOW, not Enslow. Showing Sheridan (and his friend Tarquin) would have made for some fun situations but all in all, great fun and as someone else commented, haven't we all known a "Hyacinth" at one time or another??
KUA is a brilliant show and is true comedy. This is true British television (or it was before reality tv). I love the fact its not all filmed in a studio like all american comedies and sitcoms, loads of it is filmed outside and they actually drive rather than sit in a car infront of a green screen. It keeps you laughing and is true slap stick comedy and even though alot of the gags are repeated, it never gets old, Britain needs to bring back true british sitcomes, not make a load of reality and game shows. It has never ever jumped and will never jump.
