i think they're running out of ideas. anytime where they gotta use kids to handle subject matter bigger than their age than maybe its not a good idea.
1) Greg and Sophia are caught making out in the arcade.

Yeah...she's brilliant, and he's about as smart as cabbage. They all consider each other "friends", of course...because of what they've all gone through. But she really did not like Greg very much. (Read her interviews.)

Does anyone know how much of Kid Nation is real and how much is staged.

According to several websites...(Television Without Pity is a main one, but there are others)...a lot of the action is engineered. The KN contract itself states that the kids might be portrayed "either accurately or with fictualization to achieve a humorous/satirical effect." It's pretty common knowledge that reality show "reality" is not REAL reality.

For example...apparently the producers gave nickels and told kids to go and contribute to Sophia's "bicycle dance" collection plate, and also gave her the money for her "money in the muck" jar. And many kids wanted to do things that would solve a lot of problems, but were not allowed to because CBS had planned an episode around some of those "problems".
I'm trying to figure out what categories this show would be eglible for.
In order how they appear on the site...
Same Character, Different Actor--not at all.
Birth--not of a person...but there is the birth of the deal with it catchphrase...but I'm saying no overall.
Death--Nada. If those pre-show rumors came true, than yeah but there was no death.
Puberty--Not necessarily.
Singing--Talent show is the only thing that comes close to that.
Live!--Nope.
I do--This being Kid Nation, it's a no.
They did it--Never!
The movie--No.
Moving--kind of but not really--moving from their home to Bonanza City or for the three kids that left--Jimmy, Cody and Randi--them moving back. Back and forth.
Okay...I'm just skipping to:
Exit...Stage Left--For sure. If you're a fan of Jimmy, Randi or Cody (or all of them) than yeah...it's eglible. Not saying it needs to be there (they're leaves weren't that conterversial or weren't that sad to most viewers--with the exception of Jimmy). But it could be.
Ted McGinley--Hahahahhaha. No.
Never jumped--Already there. Definitely eligible.
Day One--Oh yeah. Eligible.
Great family show but for primetime, no. It was too staged. One being that probably most of these kids are being exploited by their parents since some of the kids mentioned are being home schooled. It was the minor things that made just so badly staged. One of the first kids who decided to go home, went home because of a letter he got from a girlfriend but later on in the show, one of the awards was letters from home. Now why was that kid special on receiving letters and the rest of the kids not? I totally agree that Oliva is a racist in the making but you guys left out a major point. She claimed to be a Christian in the early episodes. I think she picked on him more based on his faith which we find out on the religion episode. The other staged thing I like was Taylor was always "doll"'d up when she was doing her confessional part.
This was a fun show to watch. I never detected any racism on Olivia's part toward Anjay, but the camera did seem to catch her rolling her eyes or smirking when he was around. Makes you wonder what was edited out...
I think a 2-hour final would've been more appropriate. As it was, it seemed pressed for time a little bit. And what I thought was odd was that everyone was saying goodbye to each other while still at the town - even though everyone was riding out of town together, and would officially have said goodbye later on. Oh well, it looked good for the cameras...

Favorite pioneers? Sophia, Laurel, DK, Greg, Michael, Zach, Alex, Morgan, and Mallory (also the cutest of the bunch). Least favorite: Sophie (in particular for her treatment of Emilie in the finale) and Taylor (especially when she was paired up with Randi).

One final word as the sun sets over Bonanza City: As bad as the host was, they could've picked a worse choice. Two words: Julie Chen.
First of all, the "Pioneers" guy almost single-handedly wrecks the show- annoying voice, smug, talentless, etc. Even Carrot Top would make a better host. And secondly, did anyone else pick up on the subtle racism that infiltrated the show in some of the kids' treatment of Anjay? He did a good job on the town council, always was willing to make unpopular decisions if it was for the good of the town, and yet nobody listened to him and constantly made him the butt of their jokes. Olivia's treatment of Anjay throughout the season was cruel, mean-spirited, and quite possibly racist, and yet she suffered no sanctions whatsoever. That kind of garbage is hard to stomach; it's like watching a child being mistreated for "entertainment", and even though Olivia is clearly a spoiled brat, it should never have been tolerated. Other than the horrible Pioneers guy and the racism, it really wasn't a bad show at all. Unfortunately, those two problems were serious enough to drag the entire show down a bit.
Well, been a while since my last comment, and just saw the finale.

Two big questions come to mind.

Who the hell was that Migle girl? And how come we never heard anything about her until like the last three episodes?

Otherwise... pretty good ending, even if there was FAR too much of the "Pioneers!" guy for my liking. Sophia and Morgan were both very deserving of the big stars, and I was glad to see them get them. Hope to see them both on the inevitable "All Stars" incarnation of the show in a year or two. Even Greg, who I didn't care for at all when the show started, turned out being pretty good in the end.

And they finally threw that damn journal on a fire! Better late than never.

Show never seemed to jump to me. Viva Kid Nation, and best wishes to all the kids in wherever they go from here.
greg and blain are my favorites!!!! i <3 them..
Well hey, it's not as bad as Flight 29 Down...
"Pelvis has left the building..."
-Jared

That kid kills me, hee hee hee.
One more episode, and it's over, folks... and next week brings bigger gold stars (based on how big they are, I'm guessing $50,000)... and a fire that destroys at least one of the buildings! What up with that.

But like it or loathe it, you have to agree that next week's episode will be a little sad since the kids will all be going home. But before they leave, I see a few things happening...

1) Greg and Sophia are caught making out in the arcade. (Hmm, no wonder they voted to close it...)
2) As punishment for her largely shirking her duties, the kids lock Taylor in the chicken coop.
3) "Olivia and Mallory look alike. They could be sisters." -- Jared
4) Using only a few tree branches and a coconut shell, Alex constructs... no, wait, I was thinking of Gilligan's Island.
5) An entire council meeting is devoted on how exactly to pronounce "Migle".
6) Greg discusses plans to sell his ever-present knit cap thing on Ebay.
7) A distraught Maggie seeks to start a "Kid Nation Kids Who Got Little Air Time" club. Sadly, she is unable to find any other members.
8) Taylor, Morgan, Madison and Hunter, however, do start a "Why'd Our Parents Give Us Last Names For First Names?" club. They elect Kennedy as president.
9) Just before the bus pulls away from Bonanza City, the gold star winners beat that annoying "PIONEERS!" guy to death with their prizes.
Does anyone know how much of Kid Nation is real and how much is staged (in other words, fake)?

Just wondering.
Taylor (and a few other kids like that little girl that kept voting herself for the gold star) appears to be what the bible calls an eye-servant--someone who does good only when someone's watching, or there's something in it for them. She would have had to do a lot more than wash some dishes, gross as they were before I would have let her little butt set foot in that arcade. I can only wonder what her parents think about seeing how badly she comes off on TV. If she's that bad on TV, I can only imagine how she is at home.

p.s. Is it me, or is no one else surprised that there are no puppy romances shown? There's no way you can stick a bunch of kids together without couples forming. I wish they wouldn't have edited that out...
People..you all need to read on other sites about what REALLY happens with the show...They tell you there are counselors and medics there...and on the last day a few parents were there and accused the producers of "restaging" scenes and feeding the kids some lines...so GET OVER IT!! Also a few kids became ill after DRINKING BLEACH LEFT IN A SODA BOTTLE! So where were the "responsible adults" at that time? And why havent we seen that part on the show? And something has to be up for cameras to "just happen" to be at the parents house of the kid who wins the gold star..yeah ok...But i like the show but taylor needs to get her butt kicked and her parents need to get THEIR butt kicked for raising such a stuck up brat...and NO it doesnt end every episode with someone crying... GET REAL they are KIDS!!!! GOOD SHOW-- NOT JUMPED!!
Sophia as town sheriff!

The whole "Clint Eastwood, Get a load of me" line showed the ramp. Luckily the show is ending soon. CBS please follow these hints for next season to keep people watching.

Change the time - CBS basically has nothing on Saturday morning, so move it there, so we can finally have that CSI - Alaska we need so much for that wed 8 pm time slot.

Get rid of the Physical challenges - no one should have to chase pigs or carry pies on sticks to determine their status. That is a little too double dare to me.

No more host guy calling them Pioneers-That is more annoying than Taylor saying "deal wit it". Bring in a nice teenage host or something (make a deal with disney for their rejects).

No more over hyping commercials that make the show fall flat.

I have to admit that I enjoy watching this show more than other new shows on CBS (ie. Cane). I hate reality shows, but for some reason, I watch this one.
