The opening song was like "hi tech turns me on, from my video to my radio" .

Back then, vcr and radio were hi tech for the songwriter !!!

I´m sure there are other songs of the era talking about futuristic and ultra modern gear such as walkman, acetate albums and acid-washed jeans...

By the way, never jumped...
The show never jumped, although season 2 was a bit weaker. I thought it was cool that a fat kid, Wiz, got to go to another world. The music videos were awesome, too. What's cool about this show is that anyone who shares a few of my offbeat interests also seems to remember Kidd Video.

Master Blaster and the Copycats were so devious you almost hoped they won. If they were up against drips like Ash all the time, maybe. But that means one of my first TV crushes, Carla(I can't have been the only guy) would be in trouble.

This show would be great to resurrect on DVD, but unfortunately not enough people would seem to like it. Even though it went in for the video craze with the music breaks, the bizarre backgrounds and weird monsters that changed from episode to episode more than made up for any similarities in the plots.
I am 33 years old and during my stoner period I had flash backs of this show. I also thought that I had imagined this show and was shocked that it was real. They were fond memories of the 80's and my youth. It played popular music of it's time and although it was crazy, the music was great. More than anything I would love to have this show on dvd,but that may never happen. It was a show that only certain kids liked and it was unique.I told my wife "don't you remember"and she said no until i looked it up and played the You Tube clips.Seeing them brought back so many memories.
Glad to know some other people here remember this show.Certainly not my favorite cartoon af all time, but it had a certain charm. Actaully I still think the music from the band is still great(definetly 80's flavored pop music and that is cool with me). The opening theme (Video to Radio)and intro was my favorite part of the show and I kinda wish they would have had more live interactive scenes with the actors/singers. Robbie Rist seems like a pretty cool down to earth guy.
I watched this when taking some very strong anti-seizure drugs as a little girl in the 1980's. So I thought I had imagined this whole series up.

I am sincerely shocked to learn it actually existed.
I liked the show a lot. Until they decided that having them look vaguely realistic and decently drawn was a bad idea. So bam, they changed the art -completely-. The most noticeable was the guy with glasses. All of a sudden, his glasses got huge and his clothing didn't fit. That's when I stopped watching. I just couldn't take the bad art.
I thought I was the only nitwit who remembered this show. This show came out when I was a senior in High School. My parents would watch my niece on Saturday's, and she used to watch it. She used to sing all the songs, and love every character. She's 23 now, and when I asked her if she remembered watching it, she thought I was smoking killer dope. What really sticks out the most, was an episode when they were singing a song that went....."run run...you better run". It was a rocking tune. I remember cousin Oliver (robbie rist) and some other kid co-sang the song. I remember Robbie played the bass during that song, and was way getting into it. I actually forgot about that show for a few years, until I was on a ski vacation up in NH. The chalet we rented had a bunch of children's videos in a tape drawer. To my surprise, there were 2 kidd video tapes. Which does give a ray of hope to the really die hard fans. Perhaps if you check ebay from time to time.....you just may luck out.
Alas, one of those shows you watched as a young bright eyed TV watcher and thought was cool and now every once in a great while, while getting stoned or drunk, you think of this cartoon and spend the rest of the night trying to get everyone else to remember this show. Something like this, "You remember they were real and had a band and then they were turned into cartoons, there were some cats and something they flew around in, Come on don't you remember?"
Okay, so you worked on this show and you rewrote all the scripts. So is it because of you guys the same formula was used in about 70% of the episodes (race against time, the band is the only hope, and they always make it just in the nick of time). Still, it was a very good show for kids who were too young to notice that kind of thing.
I was one of the group of 8 artists that worked on this show. The writers weren't on drugs, we were! and we threw out the scripts and re-wrote things and that's why so many parts of this show were incomprehensible but cool.
Okay, the animation wasn't particularly good in either season, and the music was still good. But when they changed the designs for all the character . . . I'm sorry, they were a lot less cute. I still had a major crush on Wiz, though.
this show never really jumped the shark. if it did, i was too young to notice. but i did realize right away, even at the age of 7, that robbie rist, the former "cousin oliver" on the brady bunch, was the band's keyboardist. wild stuff.
This show stood head and shoulders above the other teenagers-trapped-in-another-dimension cartoons of its time. I mean, what other cartoon has a teen rock band as the heroes? The quality didn't change any in the second season, but I think the animation got a little better. The writers must've been on drugs, though, throughout the whole thing. My only complaint was those songs they played during the episodes--they seemed totally out of place. The one I remember best was, I'm pretty sure "Owner of a Lonely Heart" playing while the copy cats were cheating at the music olympics or something. Was it supposed to be significant or something?
I can't believe others remember this show. My memories are scant but involve "I'M TAKING YOU TO THE FLIP SIDE!", "Come back to me (one of the songs at the end of the show that the real band sang. The girl wrote it and the other band members didn't like it. She took off all upset but they found her and performed it for her)", and some cats.
I vaguely remember this show, although I know that Master Blaster and his cats were excellent evil guys. I used to watch this show religiously.
