a diabolical monkees rip off,i always thought kirshner was involved but im not so sure about that now ,it was canceld the same reason the new monkees were canceled after only a few episodes ,because it was a pathetic attempt to cash in on the monkees success and formula ,jeez ,at least the partridge family still had some good songwriters and studio musicians involved which is why it lasted 5 years.but this was weak
I totally LOVED this show. It was my favorite then came Isis, Shazam, Bugaloos and Land of the Lost (yea I still remember the names of the other shows..think I need to get out of the house more
The one thing about the show that I don't remember is what they use to say about Doc. They said it to all the girls who walked in..something they had to be careful of..or something like that. Wish they were put the episodes on DVD..not that they would have alot of work to do since the show didn't last long.

The show wasn't on the air long enough to jump and I don't think that it would have. It was goofy and silly from the first episode to the last. Just what a Saturday morning kid's show should be. I was about ten years old when it was on and I loved it. I even taped a few shows. Not on ***** of course, the VCR was still in it's infancy back then, but I did put my audio cassette recorder up to the TV speaker and taped away. I even still have one of those tapes and it's in pretty good shape. I have one show where the boys are transformed into monsters after they eat some mad scientist's wacky fudge and the other show the boys fall victim to a mummy's curse of never ending hiccups. They just don't write 'em like that anymore.
As someone else pointed out, the show wasn't on long enough to jump (13 eps and a four and a half month hiatus mid season)...but it was definitely on long enough to get a legion (well, a near legion) of devoted fans. Long live the memory of the Civilian Authority for the Protection of Everybody, Regardless!
Holy Cow! Just reading this stuff brings back memories from over 25 years ago! How do I remember this stuff? One guy was good looking. "Doc has the looks to really catch the crooks." One guy could talk to animals. They had a shark puppet in the van called Mr. Featherstone that acted as their computer and RADAR. I also remember that the van was called the big baloney. Even though the show was redundant, the characters would often spoof at this and get in on the joke with the viewers. "okay, guys, here's the part of the show where the pretty young girl walks in." And sure enough, every week there was a babe. What I liked about this was that each of the four got turns ending up with the girl. I could often predict by the girls appearance and personality, which Caper Kid she would end up liking best. Now, it gets scary. There was even a flashback episode where the gang reminisce about an adventure/case that took place "when the big baloney was blue." And sure enough, the van and the interior was blue. Also, the guys in the flashback were wearing different outfits then the ones they normally wear. Apparently, they adopted a new look when the big boloney stopped being blue. I need to get a life.
What fond memories! Never had a chance to jump. I remember there was a building in their town that was "the tallest building in the world with no elevator." And I really thought it was funny, and I still do.
This unforgettable kids show from the seventies never got the chance to jump. NBC put the show on hiatus after only two months, then cancelled it after a brief comeback the following summer. For those of us who got to see it, though, The Civilian Authority for the Protection of Everybody, Regardless will forever remain in our hearts. I am always amazed at the number of people in my age group who not only remember this show, but are still mad it got cancelled! And almost all of them can sing you the theme song: "We're the Kids, we're the Kids, we're the Kids from C.A.P.E.R. We'll race to your place, on the case, every time. We're the Kids, we're the Kids, we're the Kids from C.A.P.E.R. Four in a war, evermore, against crime." For the record, Doomsday was the guy for me!
We're four in a war in a war against crime. I loved this show. My favorite episode featured Professor Graham Cracker and his daughter Saltina. As "Doc" would say, "Ah come on!"
Yes, it was a marvelously stupid Monkees wannabe, but I liked it. The only "kid" I couldn't tolerate was Doc (John Lansing) and he was supposed to be the chick magnet on the show. PT (Steve Bonino) was ok, and Doomsday (Biff Warren) was just so darned cute, but Bugs (Cosi Costa) was the man for me. Pretty pathetic, ain't it, that I can still name all the guys.
