what a fantastic show. i only found the show this year and discovered that the actor who played julian luna mark had died which i was devestated to hear about. he was georgeous and a fab actor. He played Julian perfect and as a mad vampire fan kindred: the embraced was the best vampire show i have ever seen.realistic and very seductive well done to the cast for their efforts kindred will stay in my collection forever.
This show was never given a chance!

It had potential to be good, but wasn't allowed to develop. It was victim of the classic "up or out" philosophy the networks use.

It's too bad it wasn't an HBO cable series. It could have been good!
I was 16 when KINDRED was aired & unceremoniously yanked off the air yet now at 27 the show still lingers i wasn't familiar with the RPG until the show ofcourse it never jumped the death of mark frankel sealed it's fate albiet predictable overdramatic plot and begrudgingly annoying overacting by c. thomas howell i enjoyed the show and used to hang out all week to watch it i agree lunas character was slightly wooden but mark frankel was charasmatic enough to carry it i was besotted with his eyes one black the other brown i must admit when i heard the news of his death my boyfriend at the time suffered for it dearly no show has held my attention since. The drama sensibilities passions society rules clans i've kind of likened it to interview with the vampire meets sopranos just the right amount of sex appeal with just enough carnage to establish a hirearchy i would love to see someone take another shot at making this into a series hopefully their won't be kids who get to wrapped up the the drama like last time i remember the killings weren't they attributed to the show? nicholas lea would be a good alternative

This was a classic case of a show not being given a chance.

I liked it myself, I was also involved in the Masquerade role-playing game the show is based on.
As Julian Luna, he was he perfect Prince of the City and it was very obvious he did the role justice. As much as i was disappointed that the series only had 8 episodes before it was unrightly yanked from tv, I think i would have been more disappointed and heartbroken if they had cast someone else in Mark Frankel's place. He was a brillant actor, far ahead of his time than most. More talented and dedicated to his art and the loss is truely mine and the rest of the worlds that we may never see anymore of this mans great work except for what he left for us. And to be very honest...Kindred the Embraced is one of the best shows i have ever seen and im commenting on it after discovering it 10 years after is frution and premature death. Fox television and our loss compeletly. but at least they didnt screw up and put someone else in frankels place after he left this world....
Somebody said that this show was a half assed rip off of WW Vampire:the masquerade and then continued to make fun of goths and people he felt were stupid. I felt that this was ironic due to the fact that it wasnt a rip off, it was based on VtM. Calling people dumb only works when you are smart or at least do your homework
Ok first off, the poster who commented on Lily's being a ideal Toreador, is dead on.. They were so close in that bit of casting that it was like they actually knew what they were doing, not so if you watch any other character. When this came out I liked it, having only played Vampire: The Masquerade's sister game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, but having become almost an expert in the Masquerade now I have to say.. WTF?!? No vampires can go about in sunlight, none.. no level of their powers allow for this short of the clan founders or Caine. Secondly Luna was a ponce and would have been taken out by a more ambitious Ventrue or any other Kindred with prickly aspirations. Next, what was the deal with the "inborne" clan fueds? Yeah the Brujah never were buddy buddy with the Venture but they never hated them or the Gangrel to have a turf war/Romeo & Juliet thing. Finally, the powers. WTF?!?! Asamites are not the only ones who can change their appearance, that is the Nosie's specialty. They never mentioned any others other than brief glimpses of animal shape changing, again wrong clan to show using this with ease, and mind control. Utter rubbish.
It never did. If Mark Frankel hadn't died, who knows how many more seasons Kindred: The Embraced would have lasted? The many Kindred fan sites out there--for a series of only eight or so shows from almost 10 years ago--suggest that Kindred could have lasted for YEARS before some oddity finally cropped up and sent Kindred sailing over the shark. Kindred never jumped; it never had enough time to jump. At least Frankel died doing what he loved to do, eh? That Harley was his pride and joy. (To those in the know: I only wish the writers had stuck up their chin and made Starkweather a Malkavian rather than another Gangrel. I like my Malks scary. Well, I also wish the show had satisfied my Tzimisce fetish, but that's neither here nor there....)
It never did. I don't think they gave it a chance. All the fan sites since then, prove as much. I guess it didn't fit the "Spelling" profile! Now, add the vampire murders that happened shortly afterwards, (you know the ones, when a bunch of teenagers, in 1996, playing "Vampire, the Masquerade, actually thought they were vampires and started killing people). I think that was also a reason. The show itself was terrific. It had the right amount of darkness, a great cast and excellent performances. It didn't insult your intelligence. Maybe that was a problem for some producers...!!!
Yes, dear Mark Frankel is dead, but wouldn't Nicholas Lea make a great sibling of his who takes over as Prince of San Francisco. Who's Nick Lea? Do the names Alex Krycek, Ricky Caruso, Cory Raines, and Victor Mansfield ring a bell?
this was such a great show. only seven episodes were aired in the us but there are 8. to the role playing freaks who are complaining that this is not true to the role playing game... of course, because if they made it true to the role playing game only like the 10 of you lame asses who actually waste there time pretending to actually be vampires would have watched it. i thought this show was amazing in all aspects. the casting was out of this world. i think if mark finkel hadent died he would have become huge. its really too bad we lost him and such a promising show so soon
Day One: this show was a BLATANT RIP-OFF of Forever Knight!! Aaron Spelling you have absolutely no shame whatsoever!!
I liked this show. It was uneven, but it was getting better. If they'd simply fired C. Thomas Howell, it would have helped a lot. The head of the vampire families was drop dead gorgeous (too bad he died in a motorcycle accident four or five years ago). I liked the street gang vampires, and the mafia vampires, and the artsy vampires with their clubs and art galleries. It was kind of fun that the various types of vampires were always kind of at war with each other, jockeying for position in the hierarchy. Curse Fox for dumping both this freshman show and another equally good (or better), the one about the evil corporate guy who'd been raised in a box(I forget the name at the moment).
