Got the first season (both sets) on DVD. More of a comedy than a western, and very well done. Neville Brand is brilliant and had a comic flair that was unseen when playing villins on shows like the Untouchables. Unfortunetly he had an alcohol problem and that forced the writers to write him out of many episodes. But the episodes he is in, he commands the screen and overshadows the other actors. He was also the forth most decorated WW2 veteran. Quite a talent.
I enjoyed the Robert Wolders character: the more the merrier! loved season 1 and 2...Never Jumped. bought the best of 1st season and am enjoying it immensely. i just wish the complete episodes would come out as well...Especially season 2.
laredo was a good show for almost
2 seasons then started getting silly
and lost its core humor.they did not
need wolders to come on board.anyway
a good 3 year show i think.too bad.
On the website tv shows on dvd.com they are releasing Laredo The best of Season one. Why not the complete series? I watched this show years ago and I should say the show is good but, they needed more substance. What was missing was women.
Laredo was an awesome show, until they started adding characters. Neville Brand made the show great.
True, the second season of Laredo seemed to be similar to The Wild,Wild,West with over the top villains & far fetched plots.Still it retained a wonderful chemistry between all the leads & Robert Wolders brought a fresh dimension to the show, colorful wardrobe included. In fact, both the rangers Chad Cooper & Joe Riley received an upgrade in their shirts.Chad now wore a powder blue double-breasted top, while Joe had a buckskin with fringe shirt. Both added a sharp look to the actors Peter Brown & William Smith. It showed just how important the right clothes can be in a show. They are as critical as the sets, props,or special fx.This series had more life left in it but was canceled after its second season. What a shame,so many other western series have aged poorly due to the melodrama & maudlin elements that comprised them.Laredo was pure fun.
I watched this show as a kid and I liked it a lot, but I remember not liking it as much when Robert Wolders joined the cast. I think previous posters are right -- the plots started getting sillier around that time, and I never understood why they needed to bring in a new Texas Ranger. I thought William Smith was great (and really sexy too), and the Joe Riley/Linda Littletrees stories were hilarious. BTW, the actress who played Linda was also in "The Flying Nun" around that time, and now, four decades later, she is again hilarious playing Rosario on "Will and Grace" -- the peerless Shelley Morrison.
The first season of Laredo was good. The second season was silly. The 'Erik' character was just too over the top.
This show jumped the shark it's last season when Erik Wolder joined the cast and they started showing the original characters only sometimes. "Joe Riley, I love you,' Linda Littletrees.
never did ... not the episodes i remember from childhood, anyway. this is probably the earliest tv show i really remember, because my father liked it. i guess that made quite an impression on me, since he was (a) wandering the country instead of staying home & (b) died in 9/67, just before i turned 8. neville brand (who would've made a great sgt. nick fury if that comic book had ever been filmed ...) remains one of my favorite actors to this day.
Anyone who saw Peter Brown in Lawman ['58-62]and William Smith in Wildside [1985] knows that Laredo had potential it never lived up to. It aspired to a Magnum PI combination of humor and action, but ended up just silly more often than not.
Show went downhill when dude character Erik (Robert Wolders) joined the cast. He wore outrageous clothes--the hats often matched the vest or the saddle blanket. Laredo became too silly for words after this. Additional cast members were William Smith as Joe Riley, and Phil Carey as Captain Parmalee. And "Cactus" was Reese's horse!
Just want to know if anybody remembers this one..it had Neville Brand, Peter Brown and a few others I don't remember...
