I thought the show was good in my opinion (but don't everyone jump me because we all have different likes and dislikes). I heard that Cindy Williams left the show because they were going to make her work the week she was suppose to deliver. And I'm pretty sure Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were straight- I don't think it should have been called Laverne Loves Shirley!- But it's just my opinion- so don't everyone try to start an "internet fight".
I TAKE IT BACK LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY WERE DYKE"S IT JUMPED THE SHARK WHEN THE FIRST EPOSODE AIRED PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT
AFTER THAT ONE ABOUT THAT RETARDED GIRL THAT LENNY FELL FOR AND SQUIGY INSULTED HER AND LENNY POPED HIM DOWNHILL AFTER THAT ONE B
The show should have been called, "Laverne loves Shirley." It's so obvious that they are lesbians.
This show sucked. That homely nasaly, whiney Penny Marshall only got the gig because her brother was the creater and producer. What has she done since this nepotism? Nothing. And deservedly so. Sucked!
I grew up loving this television show and it was liberating to see two women living together and sorting out their differences in a decade where women living on their own independently was not always looked upon with a warm reception. Women were taught back then to feel if they didn't get married by age 30, then they were spinsters and Laverne and Shirley certainly debunked that outrageous assumption. However, I must admit that when the girls left Milwaukee and moved to California, the show jumped the shark. It lost its freshness and became mundane and predictable with forced laughs and ridiculious story lines. I won't ridicule the show because Laverne and Shirley were pioneers for women and their chemistry on set was fantastic, even if they didn't get along off set which has been declared many times. I was always a die hard Lenny fan. His vulnerability and gentle childlike goodness always made me love his character, but Michael McKeon has always been an exceptional actor. Carmine was just outright gross with his kooky dance moves....
Guest- I stand corrected. My post was also contradictory in that I said Carmine was annoying, but I thought he should have married Shirley. If that was the only way to keep Shirley on, then so be it. Without her there wasn't much point to the show.
It also couldn't have helped Williams's ego that every single one of Penny's relatives worked on the show, and usually gave her the funnier lines.

I must agree with most of the posters here - it's one of those shows I look back and ask: what was I thinking in liking this piece of crap? Three's Company is still funny and I will always watch it if I catch it on TV land. But L and S is simply cringe inducing. The only character I liked was Mrs. Babish: she was also really good on All in the Family, as Vincent Gardenia's (RIP!!) wife.
topo-
Cindy Williams didnt leave the show because she wanted to spend more time with her kids.
She left because Penny Marshall couldnt stand her in real life.
They constantly fought off the set and Penny finally had enough and her dad gave her the axe.
I know this for a fact because I have a relative who worked on this show.
there was a power struggle between Marshall and Williams and Cindy would deliberately go out of her way to Piss Penny off.
The nice sweet little stories that you read in TV guide are seldom the truth.
What was she going to do? come out and admit she got canned.
Its also a well known fact that Vivian Vance and Lucille Ball detested one another too.
This show flat out sucks!
Who wants to sit around watching a very poorly executed rip off of I love Lucy.
Laverne was alright, but I cant stand Shirley, she acted like a nun that was 6 years old,she was preachy, whiny and manipulative,as well as a killjoy.
She never seemed to speak in a normal voice, she always overacted.
Penny Marshall was a much better actress.
another thing about this train wreck,There were way to many "lets put on a show!" episodes, with horrible slapstick and dumb musical numbers.
and dont get me started on Carmine, the "big fagoo"
that damn fairy Carmine would break into "song" every 6 seconds.
He couldnt sing worth a damn, yet just like Potsy on Happy days, somone thought it was great to twist the knife on the audience.
Laverne and Shirley is pure trash tv,nothing but mindless fluff.and a complete waste of a half hour of ones life.
Queers are big on it,as another poster pointed out, because of the blatant "camp" factor.
At least Happy days had one good season, this show sank on its maiden voyage.
Cindy Williams was , in my opinion, underrated. Yes, Shirley should have married Carmine, but Cindy left the show because she wanted to actually be a mother to her daughter instead of having her raised by a nanny. Lenny and Squggy were hilarious, but the weak link in the chain was Carmine Ragusa, who was eardrum shatteringly loud and annoying. The first shark jump was the episode when Laverne thought she might be pregnant, and Carmine came busting in. With the door wide open and Mrs. Babbish, Lenny and Squiggy in the room, he's screaming at Shirley at the top of his lungs about her being knocked up. Why would a man who cared about a woman, especially in the 1950's when a good reputation meant everything, do that so everyone can hear? Of course, when he apologized she forgave him. I'd never want to see him again! Anyway, why would an uptight girl like Shirley date him when he was a 'ho for Mrs. Lockwash?
L&S peaked after each episode was recorded in front of a live studio audience. They were having fun in the studio, but we the viewers were still waiting to have fun. If the entire series of L&S was filmed on location, just like opening credits, it would have been a better show because they would have at least had a more realistic grounding for the comedy.
Ok, Back in HS I at least did watch this now and then, unlike “Happy Days” which sucked beyond imagination. Lenny and Suiggy obviously were rip-offs of the Fonzie, leather jacket mystique. Which vanished after they opened their mouths. The one I couldn’t stand was that Carmine. He was supposed to be a bad ass, yet in his fights he dances and sings. My deceased Father said it best back then. He saw Carmine and said: “That guy acts like a Fairy!”
NOT ENOOUGH LENNY & SQUIGGY!
THEY WERE A RIOT!
SQUIGGYS MOTH COLLECTION!
JEFFERY THE STUFFED IGUANA!
"ONE WOLF"
WHAT ABOUT WHERE THE GUYS WON A GIANT SALAMI ON A TV SHOW AND WERE OVERJOYED TO THE POINT OF TEARS,
"WOW,WE'VE BEEN SAVING UP FOR ONE OF THESE"
LENNY AND THE SQUIGTONES "STARCROSSED"

THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE LENNY AND SQUIGGY THE STARS OF THIS SHOW.

OH YEAH,THE BIG RAGOO SUCKED,EVERYTIME HE BROKE INTO SONG I REACHED FOR MY GUN!
THIS SHOW IS HORRIBLE!,I HAVE NEVER WITNESSED SUCH LAME ACTING AND PATHETICALLY JUVENILLE ATTEMPTS AT HUMOUR.
NOT SUPRISINGLY THIS SHOW APPEALS TO GAYS BECAUSE OF ITS "CAMP" FACTOR.
PERSONALLY I WISHED SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE BIG FAGOO OUT BACK AND KICKED HIS SKULL IN.
THE SINGING,ALL THAT HORRIBLE DAMN SINGING...ALL THE TIME!

LENNY AND SQUIGGY WERE THE ONLY REDEEMING CHARACTERS ON THIS SHOW.

ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS SHOW ARE EITHER GAY OR WOMEN.
NOBODY ELSE WOULD WASTE THEIR TIME ON TWO WOMEN RIPPING OFF I LOVE LUCY BADLY.
