This show jumped when Goren went "undercover" in an insane asylum. He belongs there. He's nuts. What'd he think he'd prove? He thinks he's Rambo or something. Please. I LOVED Dean Winters in the show this week. BRING HIM BACK! He's awesome. Eames and Goren have NO chemistry. Boring pair and I hate the Chris Noth episodes.
...I heard this thing got canned, and the only thing that kept it on NBC was the writer's strike. I cringed when, in the great "ripped from the headlines" tradition, Erbe pulls a pair of Depends from the trunk of the car and practically screams: "She was wearing a DIAPER!" and then "Houston, we have a problem!". I respect Bogosian (a "performance artist" from humble beginnings), and never had a problem with either Erbe or D'Onofrio (who I consider immensely talented and NOT as overrated as some posters of this forum would have you believe). Noth I always considered to be solid (but he, like D'Onofrio, have aged poorly). But I find it hard to swallow that Alicia Witt is a married detective with children at home...with punk-rock fingernails...
I ALWAYS THOUGHT MIKE LOGAN WAS THE HEART AND SOUL ON LAW AND ORDER. IF YOU’VE SEEN THE LAW AND ORDER “EXILED” MOVIE, YOU’LL HAVE TO AGREE. WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT CHRIS NOTH WAS JOINING CI, I THOUGHT LOGAN’S ‘TOUGH AS NAILS COP’ WOULD WORK AS A NICE CHANGE FROM THE SHERLOCK HOLMES’ISH GOREN. BUT, THE WRITERS JUST HAVEN’T PRODUCED SCRIPTS THAT SPOTLIGHT LOGAN’S CYNICAL BUT DEDICATED PERSONA. I JUST DON’T SEE A FUTURE FOR THIS SHOW IF FUTURE EPISODES ARE AS ANEMIC AS THE PAST ONES.
Chris Noth is great! And so is Julianne Nicholson. she's the only actress they've had who actually acts like a cop.
The first 5 years of CI were superb. Then, the very unlikable Eric Bogosian joined the cast after Jamey Sheridan (step into him...hard) left. I love D'Onofrio but his physical appearance has been unsettling lately with the drastic fluctuations in weight and grey hair. And they still can't find Chris Noth an interesting partner.
For the first four seasons C.I. was what I considered the best crime series around. Many different elements made the show unique, such as the show focusing solely on the detectives solving the cases instead of involving personal stories. Then the show began losing it's edge and finally by the last season seemed to acquire a more melodramatic tone causing the show to jump.
I just watched this for the first time last night.

Is Alicia Witt a regular, or just a guest star? I like her in most things, but I thought she was horribly miscast here. Simply not believable as a detective.
So mischa, you actually think the "problem" will be "solved" by me just going away and not commenting on the obvious decline of CI? Okay, but you might as well tell that to the majority of the people here as well, SINCE they all agree with me. You love Ross and think Carver was "snooty" (or what that "snotty")? Wow, I hope you don't me saying, but your standards are dangerously low. If you received an inferior product, you would most likely keep it, I guess. But hey, it's your life. Btw, I have to ask; are you and SUV the same person, even though I have to admit his grammar is slightly better than yours...?
Kathryn Erbe is awesome. Always thought so ever since she appeared on OZ as the death-row inmate Shirley Bellinger, and even more so when I realized she played Richard Dreyfuss's "teenage" daughter in What About Bob? (when she was in her 20s!)

Which is why this change in the show's format by switching between Goren/Eames to Logan/whoever was a real downer for me as it reduced Erbe's screentime to half the usual amount. Still, the lady looks so visibly worn-out lately that I'm surprised SHE hasn't been reported as being "burned out" like D'Onofrio has; putting up with his egomania for 7 years (which probably drove away both of her co-stars), being divorced and raising two kids has to have some repercussions. A shame, really.
I can't believe that no one here has dared said or even nominated The Anna Nicole episode. I was so horrified by it, not just cause the exploitation of someone's death, but the whole fact that I was thinking "I surprised SVU wasn't the one that picked up this self-indulgent garbage." I'm just glad that Goren and Eames (the REAL CI team, depsite what you say, Thomas: "D'Onofrio show" my ass!) weren't the ones to get stuck with this POS storyline, but still how the mighty have fallen.
Julianne Nicholson left the cast because she was pregnant. Have not heard, but she may have delivered the baby by now. Either she opted to put her health first, or they opted not to to the "Baby Bump? What Baby Bump? I like wearing winter coats and scarves in August!" route that they did when Mariska Hargitay was expecting. I miss her, too. She seemed to have very good chemistry with Chris Noth in a 'big brother/little sister' kind of way. They have tried for the same dynamic with Alicia Witt, even down to the red hair, but it's not gellin' for me. Her character doesn't even look old enough to have graduated from the Academy, never mind having made detective on the major case squad. She wears dark blue nail polish, like a high schooler. I'm sorry, but goth nail polish is not regulation dress code anywhere unless you're on the narc squad. In the beginning I wasn't sure about the alternating detectives format but now I like it. Or at least, I did until Nicholson left. I watched Season One recently and it's stunning how much D'Onofrio has aged in just 6 years. Guess that 'exhaustion' is really kicking his behind.
I need some help here people. Why all the female detective cast changes? I thought Annabelle Sciorra was wonderful (not to mention hot, sorry, I'm a guy). Then Julianne Nicholson, (good actress), came and left and now Alicia Witt (my least favorite of the three) is here. Will she be gone next season for someone else? CI is my favorite Law & Order, but the constant changes are driving me crazy.

Anyone who says this show is still good is deluding themselves. Bobby's too emotional now, Ross is a dick, and everyone else just sucks. And please wrap up this stupid Nicole Wallace crap. The storyline was never any good to begin with and now will drag on with whats-her-face getting the upper hand now that Bobby's "crazy"...
I never liked the D'Onofrio show, excuse me Law & Order CI. His character is egotistical & the rest of the characters were one deminisional. I do like it with Chris Noth though. If it's a Chris Noth episode, I will probably watch. If Super Vince is on, I will not.
Oh, and the "overwork" is crap. It fed his ego to be the only character on 3/4's of the show.
BOBBY, RULES.......!!
EVERY EPISODE IS A HARMONIOUS COMBUSTION "
