I love the L&O franchise, but you can count on the following to happen in each and every episode.
Search for the victim's identity.
Chase down various suspects, and they always terminate the interview.
All doctors refuse to cooperate, stating Patient/Client Priviledge.
Evidence strong enough to convict will be disallowed by the judge.
Further probing is ordered by the LT/Captain.
Past misbehavior is discovered that implicates somebody and they are arrested.
The lawyers object to any questions.
Dr. Huang interviews the suspects.
A trial begins.
There is a crisis during testemony.
Finally, somebody is found guilty.
No minorities are harmed, judged, or convicted.

How can people say that L&O JTS's when Serena says she's a lesbian? Its not like the show 'Ellen' when the network broadcasted it all over the news. She didn't proclaim her gayness on every show whenever she wanted to like some political statement. She just said it and that was it.
Anyway, Law and Order still remains one of my favorite shows on tv. When Orbach left it was a downer, but it still continues on, undaunted.

Bill,
I'm not sure why Serena being gay would be considered "rediculous" -- IMHO that was a great plot move. It's not unusual for something as deeply personal as that to be kept away from public view for many years, given the often horrific reaction it can garner from certain segments of our population. The reality is that human beings are good at hiding things when they are not ready to deal with them. We aren't always given indications or references to what is happening inside of someone's mind or heart. That's life.
On another note, Serena, aka "Barbie the D.A.," needed to leave the show -- because she was a lousy actor. While her departure episode may have been poorly conceived and weakly written, it was just that -- a weak episode. Neither the fact that every series has weak episodes now and again, nor the gay plot development meant that L&O jumped in any way, whatsoever. It just moved on.
Now if we can just get rid of Anthony Anderson...

It jumped for me when all of teh sudden, out of the blue, from deep deep left field, Serena is a lesbian? Hello! No indications or references to that in 3 years and then BOOM. that was a weak ending to that story line. Of course Jerry leaving/dying was a tragedy but Serena being gay was rediculous
I think (well, at least hope) that Anthony Anderson will go bye-bye soon. For me, he's just another bad casting choice. Anderson is an ok actor, but his character is irritating and annoying. The show typically bounces back after these awful characters leave, and I think it will come back around next season. If it survived Barbie the DA, it can survive Anderson.
I've seen Anderson too (Scary Movie 3), but he was good on K-Ville and excellent as a drug-dealer on The Shield...I'll have to wait until next year to make an assessment...he's got acting chops, no doubt. Just because you have the ability to perform in a comedic role doesn't mean you can't perform a serious one...just ask Tom Hanks...
The show JTS when Det. Green left. The last episode, I started to see gimmickery. I'm an Anthony Anderson fan and he is actually a trained actor. He seems kind of odd in L&O only because we just saw him in cheesy K-ville. Amderson has been pigeonholed as a non actor after doing stiff like Kang. Jack. (Hey we all gotta eat). It'd be nice if Anderson could get a nice vehicle to actually act in. L&O may not be it (He may have fit in great with the SVU cast though )
I think Anthony Anderson as a new addition will be a disaster for Law & Order. K-Ville went nowhere & he in my opinion should stick to comedy. Couldn't the producers find someone a little more classier & believable as a character?
Dan,
You have no clue at all what goes on with the program. Not every case is a murder case, and not every case is there a mistake on the criminal.
Try watching it first before running off at the mouth.
