Anybody remember the sixties version with Rod Serling as host? Jonathan Harris (of Lost in Space) was a regular panelist, and he was great.
I loved that show. The Smothers Brothers woud be on there. They'd also give away Lee Press-On Nails as prizes,LOL.
Probably the best and most fun Canadian game show ever! :)
I loved this show because it was so cheap looking. The Z-List celebrities, such as Dick Gautier and Larry Hovis, were scraped from the bottom of the barrel even by game show standards. The best part was the end, when truly cheap prizes were awarded; "A free carpet cleaning! A year's supply of Rice-a-Roni! A typewriter ribbon!"
I first saw this show when USA reran the Bill Armstrong eps in the mid-80s, and I enjoyed it...nothing spectacular, but the stars were usually funny, and it was fun playing along and trying to guess what each item really was. Then, they brought it back for the 88-89 season, and while the play-along factor was still there, this revival pretty much screamed "low budget"...cheap set (complete w/BLINDS behind the contestants and celebs for that "taped-in-someone's-office" look), mediocre-at-best celebs (although John Barbour, the only regular, was decent), host Eric Boardman wasn't all that great, and would it have killed them to give the name of the artists who painted the pictures used in the final "Art Corner" round? Chalk this one up for the "Canadian (was taped in Vancouver) game shows w/out a budget" list.
A show where deception is rewarded, a great example for ten year olds. Best show, every object was a stethoscope.
This was a fun show. Loved some of the ridiculous ideas the celebs came out with. Larry Hovis was very funny. I wonder if Game Show Network will dig this one up and start showing it again. That would be cool.
Liar's Club (the syndicated 70s version), Tattle Tales and Match Game were what game shows were supposed to be about ... watching the celebrities do their thing. It really doesn't get any better than watching strung-out Richard Dawson, Dick Gautier, etc. bullsh*t their way through the game. I used to play this high in college; it was always best to be Allen Ludden so you could do the recap of the "celebrity's" answer with that special lilt in your voice: "Dody Goodman says it is a 'SALT separator.' OK now, Larry Hovis!" Great stuff.
