Hi there, I only vaguely remember this from when I was a kid, aged 8-10 (we only got a TV when I was 8). But the programme made it out here to New Zealand even back in those old days (mid-70s). For some reason the theme tune came into my head tonight, so I thought I would Google it... and here we are! Some kind person even posted the full theme tune lyrics so that now I can sing it to myself contentedly. Thanks for that.
I realise that this is a late post, but as I said, I've only just thought of the music.
If anybody is out there who knows where I can download/buy the TV series, I'd love to do it for memory's sake.
I remember when Kripalu Parishat(Jagadguru) was featured on Make A Wish. He showed children how a sitar is played. It was very interesting. That episode featured a segment on mongoose's as well. Kripalu and Mr. Chapin played sitar and guitar. It was very interesting in concept.

Thank you,

Meeta Girghali
Does ANYONE remember the eerie cartoons they aired between the shows as filler?

One depicted the world born in fire (volcanic activity) and ending in fire via a cat and mouse chase, household appliances and short-circuiting. Before the cat was engulfed in flames, it was watching the mouse inside the house supposedly burning while saying "Mouse Flambée!"
This was the very best kids show ever; it was creative, and poetic, it was the renaissance and the youth age all in one, it was high art, and it was pop-culture...truly the most imaginative thing ever put on American TV......Id kill to see this again!!!!
Make a Wish was my reward for going to early mass. While everybody else was suffering through late mass, I'd get a bowl of cereal and watch Rocky & Bullwinkle followed by MaW. It would probably seem boring in this era of quick cuts and information overload, but back when it was ahead of its time, it was a treat.
I loved this show, as did my older brother who otherwise hated all Childrens Shows. The cleverness of the wordplay always delighted and the fast pace and fast cuts from image to image were way ahead of their time. I think it could be great today, if the clothing was updated. I spoke to Tom Chapin about this show and whether there was any chance of seeing it again. He said that he had been trying for years to get the studio to release it, but there was some kind of legal problem.
Glad to see a lot of people remember this show! I remember it being on ABC on Sunday mornings at 10 or 10:30am (like a previous poster said, right after Bullwinkle). The way they explored words and phrases with free association definitely was imaginative and captivating, and the accompanying picture/image collages got a bit "out there" at times, but all in all it was a fun way to spend Sunday mornings. Tom Chapin was also a very likeable host, and he was truly gifted with his ability to communicate with folks of all ages. The show is definitely the epitome of the 70s, and I concur with previous comments regarding the shaggy, bell-bottom feel of the program. And now... here they are... the theme lyrics as I remember them: "Make a wish... Have a ball... Dream a dream... Be it all! If you want it, you can get it, But to get it, you've got to want it; Anything you want to try, just let go, fly high... and Make a Wish!"
What a great, great show. If you want to have some fun, mention this show to someone in their mid forties and watch their reaction. My dad uniformly hated kids t.v., but he'd sit and watch "Make a Wish" with me. He thought it was intelligent, and he loved the wordplay. Now my quest. Is this show archived anywhere? I would love to share it with my grand-kids.
I used to love this show on Sunday mornings when I was 5 years old. What a great song, too. And when he got to the word 'high' it turned into an awesome psychedelic cartoon sequence. I'm indebted to this show for preparing me for a lifetime of good trips.
Never jumped! In an era of bland, insipid product-driven children's programming (actually, that's pretty much every era isn't it?), Make a Wish was a breath of fresh air. Interesting, informative, gentle, this half hour represented what children's television *could* be. Anything that persists in memory as fondly as this show has to have been something special.
I almost forgot about this show. I was 10 when it was on. They would pick a word and then go through all the possible meanings. They usually picked a compound word so they would have more to talk about. "I wish I was a butterfly. I wouldn't have any butter which is made from milk but I might like to land on milkweed...". Yes it was a bit psychedelic but that was the times. The whole show was pure genius. Quite a turnaround after Bullwinkle.
Tom Chapin is exceptional. I loved him!
never jumped, get real.. how about when sherry jackson got sent off to college at FIFTEEN 'cause she developed bigger breasts than that hag they dragged in to be the new mom with the brat (the dodie syndrome) after the first mom got so tired of danny's hamming she had to "die".
Make A Wish never seemed to have a clear message?!? Did you watch the show? Every show had a theme, be it "Horses" or 'Fish" or "Wind". Then they would explore (very cleverly I thought) the many things that that word meant. Yeah, it was a little bit "hippyesque" with the gentle acoustic guitar and bell-bottoms, but it was for kids' , for God's sake, not teenagers. It was much better and thought-provoking than Mighty Morphin F**kin Power-Ass Rangers or whatever the hell it is.
Ditto to the above poster! This is something my hippy teen sister used to like to catch when I was a kid. She thought it was 'cool' to have all the stop-action nonsense but I wanted to so *more* of some of those silent movie clips instead of having them incoherently zoom by! Oh, BTW, besides, the title song ( which no doubt occupies the same cluster of neurons as 'The New Zoo Revue ' theme instead of calculus ), I couldn't remember the words or tunes to ANY of his songs that were supposed to relate to the show's subject even five minutes after he'd sing them out in this field accompanying himself on the guitar!
