The NBA on NBC and CBS were the good ol' days of watching NBA Basketball on Sundays. Since the games moved to ESPN/ABC , it's no fun anymore. No superstars and the scores are so lo, lo, lo, lo.
Now that UGeorgia was forced into playing a college basketball doubleheader because of the Atlanta storms, it's time for the NBA on ABC to give the Indiana Pacers the ultimate humiliation: Have them play a quadruple-header three times every year on the road, encompassing all four time zones! It would be a comedy of errors seeing the Pacers get thrashed in Cleveland, then Chicago, Utah and at the Lakers--all in the same day!
The Nba on Abc now is the worst. They dont have enough games. The whole experience is terrible. The nba on nbc was classic their were so many great teams in the East you had bulls, knicks, pacers, charlotte with mugsy,zo,lj , THE heat even those cavs with hot rod , daughrety and mark price. In the The west you had Rockets, portland, jazz, suns, sonics with kemp and payton and the spurs with rodman and robinson. The nba on nbc had various double and triple headers on all those teams mentioned every sunday after (christmas) Im a knick fan but i loved those suns vs sonics matchups those days also. All these teams were great and had quality players. Think of other guys in that era that played on bad teams MITCH richmond, Danny Manning, The 3 js, Golden state I forgot just think how mny other teams would have won a championship from this era if Jordan was not playing. Nbc had great games and a great presentation. cbs felt a little dry and did not pump me up . Abc is even worse. Why dont they have more games. The NBA SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH NBC
I think it jumped when both magic and Isiah thomas joined. And when Marv Albet wasn't calling games for a brief period.
I think it jumped the shark when it moved to NBC. The music got worse, Bill Walton came in, the graphics started to get smaller...and smaller...and smaller. And for the record, I HATE the computerized on-screen displays of the clock and shot clock that networks use now. They're SO small and hard to read, and if you pay close attention, the computerized shot clock on-screen is always at least a half second behind the one in the stadium. What happened to the good ol' days on CBS with Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown and the GIANT shots of the stadium clock in the lower right of the screen?
I grew up with the NBA ON NBC.I remember watching the Knicks during weekend afternoons battling the pacers or the bulls.NBC got very lucky with good finals, unlike with ABC. NBC was also lucky with having one huge superstar,Michael Jordon. The NBA on Nbc jumped the shark when they had to show the 2002 NBA Finals!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crappy music, crappy graphics, crappy announcers...what else could you ask for? The NBA on NBC was a total waste of time, but their bad coverage and the dominance of the Chicago Jordans, err, Bulls, were a perfect match. I fondly remember growing up with the NBA on CBS. I have no such fond memories of NBC.
Umm, ESPN/ABC has better music than NBC? You lost all credibility with that statement. NBC>ESPN/ABC's coverage.
I put up with a lot from NBC. I mean, I got nothing against MJ. I never would have watched BASKETBALL if it hadn't been for Jordan. But honestly, didn't everyone just get tired of Ahmad Rashad "I spoke with Michael Jordan...". I actually put up with that. But there was one commentator who I tune out (to this day) after thirty seconds: Bill Walton. This guy is so stupid. Every time he opens his mouth he says something real stupid and irrelevant. Remember before game six of the '96 NBA finals when he started rambling on about how the Bulls were choking. The Bulls had a three zip lead on Seattle, and then they lose two games, and Walton starts acting like it's the end of the world. Man I can't believe basketball survived.
When someone decided Bill "Flower Child" Walton would make a good sports announcer. Wrong! Anytime Walton opens his mouth I feel like I'm getting dumber. "Take it down, big guy!" or "He was so fouled, the refs really missed that call" or his continuous praise of the Lakers or Michael Jordan. How does he still have a job? Probably because the banter between him and Steve "Snapper" Jones is priceless. Jones is the voice of reason to Waltons impulsive drug-influenced remarks. I love whenever Jones puts Walton in his place.
Am I the only one that hated Doug Collins? Enough with him always telling us about the lamest stat ever. "Bob, Shaq was out for only 35 seconds of game time, but his actual rest times was 3 minutes 12 seconds..." He used this stupid graphic every time anyone went to the bench!
Not only would NBC wait until Christmas (at first Christmas afternoon then Christmas evening double headers), they would wait another month AFTER to begin their regular weekly broadcasts. Dumb! This doesn't/didn't happen in other pro sports. You've got to get people excited about your product early! But if I had to pick a jump, it would probably be Michael's first retirement. The league never really recovered. D. Stern & Co. started promoting over-hyped players to death, expanding into Canada, then adding the WNBA as another marketing tool, tatoos galore and finally, a strike and now ABC's "We Got Hopes!" Yuk.
