It NEVER jumped. It was short lived, and that's just sad. Thomas Hayden-Church was absoFRICKINlutely hilarious. Debra was just plan GORGEOUS, she still is. I REALLY want season 2 to come out, SOON!
Awful show. Didn't get it, didn't like it. EXCEPT for Season 2's episode when Amanda got swamped with unwanted publicity over her "Just eat the damn muffin!" outburst, thus putting her on the talk show to tell her side of the story, on which she looked HOT in her black dress and killer black knee-high high-heeled leather boots. So much that I would happily purchase Season 2 on DVD if only they'd released it WITH SEASON 1 in the first place.

But because the DVD-buying public is wise to the complete lameness of the show, they weren't suckered in by the then-current popularity of its stars (Thomas Haden-Church for the "Sideways" movie, Debra Messing for "Will & Grace") and avoided the show in droves. And now Season 2 may never be released, even with the "bonus" of its last episodes having been unaired (and reputedly featuring Marcia Cross, whose own status on "Desperate Housewives" could be a shrewd selling-point if necessary). Damnit.
How did they ever amass so much talent into one show? LOL, I'd rather eat fifty of Amanda's Amuffins then watch even half an episode of this dreck. How does Thomas Hayden Church continue to have a career?
This season was absolutely brilliant! I have yet to come across another series I have enjoyed as much & laughed so hard as I have with N&S. I think its really sad it didnt get much exposure when it first came out. My partner had never watched if before, I bought series 1 & he was completely addicted after a few episodes. Really looking forward to the release of season 2. Please! please! please! PLEASE SONY release it NOW!!
Never jumped. Thomas Hayden Church played the part perfectly. He was awesome! I still laugh histarically when I think of him singing "Rico's A Chicken And I Don't Care", in the Nepaul episode. Classic!
It never jumped! I laugh my butt off every time I watch this show on DVD. THC and Greg were hilarious! Debra and Nadia were too. It had to end sometime because they were only supposed to be married for 2 years. It couldn't have lasted that long anyway!
Left Wings for this? I understand wanting to star in your own show, but don't be a McLean Stevenson. Should have stayed on Wings.
This show was very funny. I don't get ll the analyzing of the plots and such, it was a comedy! Meant to make you laugh, people! And it did that very well. This show is way funnier than many long running comedies. Wrong network at the wrong time.
I caught Ned and Stacey back in grad school. I remember enjoying the few episodes I saw. Then it was gone. Strangely, USA began showing reruns in 1999 during the day. I caught a couple when I was home. A couple of years ago, the We channel began showing them in the evening. I managed to see every episode. The first season was phenomenal. The premise was great. Debra Messing and Thomas Haden Church had great chemistry. (That painting Ned had commissioned showing Stacey on her knees wrapping her arms around his leg like a hunting dog was priceless.) I would say the show jumped in season 2. The muffin shop was a bad idea. The episodes weren't as good as the ones from the previous seasons. The producers knew that the show would be canceled, so they filmed a final episode. Despite some unresolved feelings for one another, they just break up. (Ironically, the marriage was supposed to last for only two years.) Fortunately, Season 1 is on DVD. I guess Debra Messing's success on Will and Grace and Thomas Haden Church's comeback with "Sideways" created interest in this underappreciated show. Who knows? Maybe there will be a reunion TV-movie one day.
One of the funniest shows ever made. Some episodes were written very well and the unlikelihood. Charlie Kaufmann wrote and produced for the show. A guy who wrote another show I loved that a lot of people didn't get ("Get a life" with Chris Elliot). Can watch the repeats of N&S *almost* as often as Seinfeld. Good to see Thomas Haden Church's career recover. His professional downfall was that he played Ned *TOO* well. That was why he struggled until he won some awards from the brilliant movie, Sideways (where he ironically played a has-been actor about to get married). He's going to play the bad guy in Spiderman 3 so it's good to see he has arrived in Hollywood nearly ten years after doing N&S so well.
Only watched a few episodes of this then realized they were serious about the guy being straight. Come Onnnnn. Will and Grace fixed both this and the *THC can't act problem* but Deb Messing still has no sex appeal. Maybe that's deliberate. Some concepts don't work anymore when society's core values evolve past the show. Cary Grant's dapper-NY-playboy & Doris Day's small-town-gal working-in-the-big-city needs a job or apartment WORKED in "That Touch of Mink" decades ago. These days a fantasy like that only works in ...fantasies.
This show was a remake of the 60's sitcom "Occasional Bride" it took the premise of that show and ran with it. Great smart writing, which is probably why some geniuses on this site don't seem to care for it. THC was great, Debra Messing was good, better than Will & Grace (a show that makes me wretch. Did jump a bit in season 2, but a bad season of this show is better than a good season of Will & Grace or According to Jim (eeeeech!)
Never jumped! This show is funny because its characters did the wrong thing in the very first episode: marrying for the wrong reason. Ned married for job prestige, Stacey wanted his apartment. Completely selfish, both of them, yet they were convinced it was the perfect plan. Then they had to live with the consequences of their actions for the rest of the show's run. Ned goes into a downward spiral and winds up jobless, in search of a future. Stacey improves her lot, but is still searching for happiness. The last minute of the final episode is perfect. Having both realized that their temporary marriage was truly a bad idea, and breaking up, Ned leaves town, but not before confessing to Stacey that he does love her. Stacey gives him a kiss on the cheek. He leaves.
Never jumped. I still miss this show. The muffin shop might not have been the best idea, but I'm certain they'd have found a way to get Ned back in advertising had they been given a chance. I used to babysit for a lady & when I come over we'd talk about the episode that had just aired & laugh our a**es off. This shows been off for awhile & people who say they didn't like it I have to wonder if you're telling the truth. When I don't like a show I tend to forget about it once it's gone off the air. I miss Thomas Hayden Church... Please some network get a brain & develop something for him.
Brilliant? All I can fathom is that you people were watching a different show. This was typical sitcom stupidity saddled with an inane premise and some of the most forgettable characters ever to grace the small screen. Jumped from Day One. Debra Messing and that guy from 'Ally McBeal' seem to have developed some career beyond this. Sadly, the same can't be said for Thomas Hayden Church.
