NY undercover j-t-s when they added that whitboy McNamara. i guess they added him for full racial diversity so to speak, but the show was doing just fine. they didn't need to add him on the show. and it definitely j-t-s when Torres was killed off, and they brought in Tommy from Martin, so now we all know what Tommy did for a living , he was an undercover cop.
NYU jumped when they killed off Eddie! Damn! But I still have the memories! 94-95 I was in college in Queens where me and my wife met. Thursday nights were our night! Walk up the block to the Chinese place (all I could afford then)then TV. Martin,Living Single,NY Undercover and the 10pm news and Sanford and Son. Then class the next morning. Thanks NY Undercover for the memories!
i like derek luke and jay hernandez for the movie version of this and make it REAL like they did miami vice
I was hooked on this when it first debuted (and I hate New Yorkers). The grittiness, the characters, the storylines, and the musical guest at Natalie's made it the perfect diversion from the placid cop dramas of the 80s(except Miami Vice). Yes the show jumped when Torres died, the retooling of the show, the new characters, no more Natalie's, J.C and Mina hookin up (show your partner some damn respect!), no Cooper, and plus Tommy (from Martin) as their new boss sucked! Liked it best when it was just William, Torres, and Lu. Thanks to Sleuth I can enjoy this show again, and now my 12 year old is hooked on it as well...
It's true this show did die when Eddie died! Thank Goodness for reruns and TV1 and Sleuth!!!
I loved newyork undercover, because of micheal delorenzo, the action and the drama. I hated when micheal delorenzo was killed off. As well I stop watching the show. I think him and malik yoba are sooooooooooooooooo sexy . Cooper was a tough boss she had to be because she was in man's world I loved her to. I'm glad that New york Undercover come on tv one and slueth because I love looking that that sexxxxxxy micheal delorenzo his about 50 years old.
Funny I ended up working at the Soul music spot Malik was a minority owner in on 42St...I think he's a really good actor but all the unemployed actors at the spot used to hate on him...anywayz they killed the show when they killed Eddie. It was about the wage dispute since some of y'all seem confused. NYU was the #1 show in Black & Latino households for their timeslot, but the network or production company didn't wanna come up off them ends. Saying #1 in B&L wasn't the same as being #1 in all households like FRIENDS was. After the half hearted salary demands and hold out they were seen as ungrateful u kno whatz by the powerz in charge. I love Dick Wolf but he didn't have their backs strong enuff. I'm surprised the show went 4 seasons, if ya can even call Season 4 the same show. However, HIP HOP nation loved them, everyone was hollering at James "JUICY FRUIT" Mtume to get their lil songs on, he was the music director. I thought the show was a'ight, I think it would've been great if it were serial rather than episodic ala NYPD Blue or Third Watch. I don't think the writing or directing was tight enough to fully use the talents of the original cast in an episodic way. Tho I do think the editing was ahead of its time. Way ahead. I see stuff in videos today that are ripped from NYU. Anywayz, just my $.02
Of course you would get racist people coming on here claiming it was only a show for black people.
I watched this show in it's first run and really enjoyed it. Black? Hispanic? No matter. A good show is a good show. I'm a white male and I watched this, Martin, and Living Single because these shows were what I liked on Thursday nights. I miss the nineties.
I love this show!! I can watch this all day long. Hands down it's the best cop drama on tv EVER!! Thursdays nights in the '90's was made for NYU. When Torres got killed, it got boring. Why ruin a great thing by killing off one of the main characters?? The diversity of it all is what made the show intriguing (I LOVED the lieutenant--- she was boss, for real!!). And do I even need to talk about the theme song? lol I still rock out to it when it comes on. Anyway, still after all these years, NOBODY is really SURE why DeLorenzo was killed off but thank the heavens for syndication. (It's currently on TVOne and Sleuth). TV today just doesn't compare to the '90's. No cop show could ever top NYU-- some of the best writing around...
I LOVED THE SHOW I THINK THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW OF ALL TIMES LORENZO, I THOUGHT WAS SO SEXY, AND WHEN HE WAS KILLED I REALLY CRIED AS IF HE DIED FOR REAL, AND AFTER THAT I DIDN;T CARE TO WATCH IT AGAIN. I MEAN THEN IT LOOKS AS IF LORENZO NEW WIFE AND HIS BEST FRIEND MALIK YOBA WAS FALLING FOR EACH OTHER AFTER HE WAS KILLED OFF ALL THE POPULAR SHOWS ARE DYING AND IT'S A SHAME.I WISH I COULD FIND NEWYORK UNDERCOVER DVD'S IN A STORE.

Great show. I agree when Lorenzo got killed off that was bogus and I stopped watching it.

So is this going to be on affordable dvd or what (like season 1, season 2, season 3, season 4 on separate dvds). it did enough episodes for syndication right?
I am trying to find out if anyone knows who the artist was for the music that was playing during the opening scenes on an episode that originally aired during the shows last season.

It was the episode where a bank is being robed by 4 IRA individuals from Ireland. And as Lt. Barker and J.C. arrived on the scene they convinced them to release some hostages. The cops that were already on the scene were clueless as to what was really going on.

As they were coming out of the bank this great Celtic/Irish sounding music began to play just as Barker and J.C. figured out that it was the IRA people coming out pretending to be the hostages, and then the show's theme song began to play.

There were no song credits any where in the beginning or end of the show and I have never been able to track down that song. I would be eternally grateful if someone could help me track that song and group down and email me the info to msredk@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance. God Bless and Happy Holidays.

PS - I still miss this show and love it when I am flipping through the channels and come across an episode that I have never seen or one where I can barely remember the details so that it "Appears" new to me now.
New York Undercover is one of my favorite Cop Shows ever, but when they took Eddie off that was it , The popularity and the rating went down after that season. If Fox would have kept Eddie on the show wouldn't have ended that soon
Besides killing off one of the main characters, i really loved the show especially the performances at natalie's, I think they really did a good job with finding the right song to use at the beginning of the show with the story line, I think the 90s were truly a blesing to fox, you had martin, living single, and new york undercover on the same channel, I really miss the 90s. We need more shows like this.
