Bad.
I quickly STOPPED watching this show.
1) There were too many shots of Robert Englund.
2) And Englund mugged the camera when they showed him.
Turned me off. That's NOT how to handle a show.

This was a fabulous show, just way ahead of it's time. With the recent rise in sci-fi shows, this would have done much better. I WISH I had the episodes on DVD (or even VHS, I just want to see them again!!)
Why did they have to cancel this show?! Because it was different, not like all the doctor, hospital, police programs, etc. My entire family loved it including my son. We are huge Sci-Fi fans.
I almost cried when I found a listing for the Nightmare Cafe. What a brilliant show! It really paved the way for so many great sci-fi shows. By some freak of nature I still have one show I taped titled Fay and Ivy. Fay's sister comes to the cafe and she has to save her from following in her footsteps. A really touching episode. I wish they would release these on DVD. I think there is a big enough market for it.
Nightmare Cafe was never given a proper chance. In the past few years, scifi/fantasy as a television genre has really skyrocketed. The show was simply ahead of it's time. If only they had waited a few years, I'm sure it would have been a long running and grand success. I remember being vividly disappointed when it was terminated. Ah well. Shows what the executives know. Never jumped...wish it could make a triumphant return.
This show still has me in awe: TEN years after I watched the last FIVE MINUTES of an episode. Two men are standing opposite each other. Man #1 says something, then a wheelchair seems to drive out on it's own, catch Man#2 and then drive him into a statue(?) which turns Man#2 into a statue. Very creepy. Anyone know this episode?
While I loved this show, it jumped for me when we started seeing things happen on camera. For example, instead of a cast member walking through a door and walking out somewhere completely different, we saw them 'beamed out' ala Star Trek. Sometimes, you just don't need to flaunt the FX. This show worked much better when the 'magic' was more subtle.
The first eps were great, especially the pilot. Then in the final ep, the cafe transported itself from the dark, mysterious pier to a street in another town, in daylight! What kind of nightmare is that? It was probably how the rest of the series would have gone had it continued, leaping from place to place, setting right what once went wrong...oops, wrong series. They should have quit while they were ahead.
I'm so excited that I finally figured out the name of this show. I used to come home and watch it every week, but then it disappeared. This show was great. I don't know y they cancelled it.
so what have we learned tonight. that night stand was the funniest damn show in the world and never got the recognition it deserved. sure it was on at 2 in the morning, and it was a pain in the ass to stay up that late sometimes. but i needed my dick every week and dick never let me down. for now, i'm not dick dietrick, but im his biggest fan.
This was a great show. I don't know if anyone else remembers it. It was much like a Twilight Zone, but better. It centered around a cafe. The star of the show was Robert Englund (sp?) of Freddie Krueger fame. This show never jumped the shark. Wasn't on long enough to. I think it lasted one season if that. Does anyone else remember this show?
