Haha, I see Mike is sure popular here! When he had Ron Jeremy on the show, and Ron was looking at him and shaking his head. You know when you are being dissed by Ron Jeremy, you have pretty well sunk as low as you can get. (I thought he had already achieved that, on the show that Bryan Adams was laughing at him).
I have to agree with a previous poster: This show began to irritate me when Mike (who's from my hometown!) started picking on audience members for no discernable reason. Canadian audiences are too polite to be insulted. The best moment, in my opinion came when someone sent Mike an e-mail saying the letters in MIKE BULLARD can be anagrammed into LARDLIKE BUM. Mike's response was, "Okay, anagram this!" and he held up a sign that said YUCK FOU. I doubt if that would have gotten on American TV. I don't blame Mike for leaving CTV in what became a fatal move to Global. CTV once sent him on a goodwill tour of its affiliates across Canada--and Mike had to pay for the flights! How miserly can you get?
This tripe jumped from day one. I thought late night talk shows were supposed to be funny? Oh, that's right--this is Canadian television where everything is done half ass. Thank God Conan O'Brien came up here in Feb 2004, and made Bullard roadkill on the Gardinar Expressway. What this guy really needed was a writing team and some well known guests every show, not unknown Canadian actors or musicians no ones heard of. Letterman, Leno, and O'Brien can get Farrah Fawcett and Harrison Ford, while Bullard can only get someone like Cheryl Hickey?! YIKES!!!
Everyone seems tempted to say this show Jumped on 'Day One' but to be fair, Bullards very first week may have seemed like a weird experiment in Gretzky's Restaurant - He silenced an extremely polite audience by attempting to single out 'hecklers' who did not exist, a bewildered guest from the TO Science Museum nearly in tears as Bullard Mock-Chastised. But you know.. it was so strangely amateurish that it had a certain 'Culty' feel that reminded me of a New Tom Green Show or een SCTV (season one) feeling.. Despite a lot of misses their was a cozy feel and enough entertaining guests, self-depreciation from Bullard and even some genuinely smart satire from the writers (Darren Millard and Uninvited Walk-on Guy) to make this show a 'Somthing'. Remember.. we are talking about 'When it Jumped the SHark' - not simply voting on how much we liked the show (or hated it). Jumping the SHark is exactly what happened when Bullard jumped to Global, re-invented the show and himself into a more professional, smoother and slicker model. Since any charm of this show was indeed the 'amateurish' feel and genuine imperfections of Bullard himself.. the new look and feel did nothing but kill anything going its way. When Bullards new 'Generic Talkshow' aired.. it sunk like a lead Balloon. Jumped the Shark on its way over to Global.
Mike Bullard has that deadpan kind of humour that worked well for awhile. He wasn't always funny, but the dead silence after some of his joke led to funny stuff. It used to be cute when he picked someone in the audience and had a little fun with them. Unfortunately now the audience members talk back too much and the whole thing is a tedious forced ritual now. Worst of all, Bullard's political comments are ill-timed and embarrassingly naive. When his crowd gave a huge ovation to the despicable politician woman who said of Americans "I hate those bastards" I was done with this show for good. Bullard seemed to have no problem with those comments either. Good riddance to him.
Very early when this show was first on the air, Mike Bullard had Tom Green (The Tom Green Show) on as a guest. Tom brought along a suitcase and eventually he opened it and inside was a green garbage bag. He opened the bag and inside was a dead racoon- a big one, and it was starting to rot. Mike grabbed his mouth and walked off the set, opened a side door and puked into the alleyway. Meanwhile, Tom ran around the studio with his reeking, dripping carcass and grossed and stunk out the crew and studio. Eventually Mike came back visibly shaken, and Tom put his "pet" away. Then he started to whip out some sex toys- realistic fake vaginas etc. THIS was the point of no return for this show. It was its most controversial and most memorable moment, and poor Mike spent it out in the alley coughing up lunch.....
I cannot possibly believe that all the laurels and accolades givin about Mike Bullard are for REAL!! I mean he is absolutely the most unfunny excuse for a talk show host I have ever laid eyes on. His opening monolouge is consistently terrible and his delivery only serves to make bad material worse?! How much is Orrin Issacs paid?,whatever it is triple it ,anyone that has to show up for work every night and do that much forced belly laughing deserves a friggin oscar.Bullard is insulting and plain rude, which when done by a compitant comedian can come out sounding humorous and tactful, but he is not.The episode recently aired in which Mike made reference to an elderly Scottish women on vacation to see her grandson and sitting together as some sort of sexual liason was almost to much to bear! The woman was clearly, and rightfully disgusted and how she managed to maintain her composure as Mike refused to realize what an ass he was making of himself and continue on for what seemed like 5 mins is beyond me. It is a shame that with all the fantastic comedic talent that moves south for the american bucks we can't come up with something at least half as talented as a Carrey or Myers or Will Sasso to host a really hilarious canadian talk show. How about Sean Cullen now he is truly funny. Lets please stop praising the emporers clothes and open our eyes and ears to what is really taking place on the screen!
Open Mike is good, but the segments (a la Letterman, Leno) are overdoing it. The Insider is okay, but the rest are bad. Madame Orina wasn't funny. Then the recurring: Mike calling Tie Domi... and getting his voice mail. If they cut down on segments, and bulked up the monologue, it may be funnier. And more American guests! I'm sick of bad canadian guests.
The moment this untalented Don Rickles-knock off opened his mouth and proved that Canada is a tax-dependent cultural backwash when it comes to entertainment. Your tax dollars at work, people. Makes me wish we that manifest destiny had been realized, if only so my money wouldn't be going to this loser and every other lame-ass piece of so-called entertainment forced down our throat in the name of a government-propped up culture. This is as lame as it gets, and that's even taking into account toothless Canadian stuff like Red Green, Air Farce and anything on our lame cable comedy outlet. I say we stop paying our taxes and get this crap off the air.
Last season, when Bullard stopped making good jokes and starting picking on his audience in hopes of staying on the air. The "Canadian Letterman"? Maybe, but at least Letterman has guests and bands people might have heard of.
Where to begin? What an awful program! Mike Bullfrog is the most UNFUNNY person I've ever seen. He's rude to the guests without even having the decency to do research about them. He had some WWF performers on, and he didn't have a clue. Bullfrog is insulting to his guests and the audience. He's had musical guests, and again, he didn't know their music or even anything about their background. Mike BullSh*t has the ability to be so arrogant in his own self importance, yet be oblivious to his own pathetic reality. It's painful to watch. It's like that old lonely lady at the bus stop on a cold day who refuses to stop talking to you. God! I would sooner give myself an enema on a unicycle than watch his garbage. It would be funnier. Mike Bullfinch is either someone's kid (a Canadian TV exec or a Member of Parliament) or their favorite bottom bitch. he should give up and go back to parking cars. What an embarrassment to Canadians with real talent...
Mike Bullard is the black hole of comedy. the gravitational pull of his mediocrity alloys no humor to escape He needs to get fat again. He looks like death on 2 legs since he lost weight
I'm a lame brained idiot from Toronto and I can't stomach this piece of sh*t either. I have seen an episode or two and I wish I could get that time back. Open Mike is almost as entertaining as plucking your ass hair with tweezers. Actually, the only funny part about the Show are the commercials that say it is hosted by the #1 Canadian Talk show host. Who is #2? Uh, no one. Another prime example of bad lazy Canadian entertainment. Instead of doing something different or entertaining or funny or better than wasting precious TV spectrum, the "producers" attempt to copy better American shows, and fail.
