The second season
Day One
Shark Bytes
Season 1 suffered from a very impossible to sustain premise of the nurses never being able to be taken off the Sea Tiger's hands, hence the reason why they had to be kept aboard, but at least it was a fun show with a good cast. Season 2, with almost 95% of the cast gone except for Melinda Naud (without question the sexiest of the nurses), was unwatchable though, and it almost seemed like Universal was desperate to give Randolph Mantooth a starring role now that "Emergency" was off (they also paired Mantooth with Naud in another short-lived show later that same season as a I recall).
Hoo-Boy, don't tell me I missed this? When was this on? Sounds like something I might have enjoyed. I loved the movie with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. Was it anything like the movie??
There were only 6 or 7 episodes actually shown in season 2. They still had Jim Varney and Warren Berlinger and whoever played Hunkle, but I enjoyed The Captain(Robert Hogan) and Executive Officer(Randolph Mantooth). Operation Spleen saw the Captain injured and Lt. Bender, who missed submarine school in hopes of failing, in charge. One of the nurses had to remove the Captain's spleen. They didn't give the new cast a fair chance to attract an audience, the shows weren't art but they were better than a lot of stuff that is on now.
All right, whose bright idea was it to made John Astin walk the plank after the first season? Invariably he's the most interesting character on what show he appears on--from "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster" to his guest shot on "Mad About You." After his departure I lost all interest in this show.
This show was pretty cool with the original cast, but after the first season, almost the entire cast, including Captain John Astin was replaced by some other ensemble which I believe included Randolph Mantooth. I guess we weren't supposed to notice, because no one here did.
This show contained one of the funniest lines I had ever heard in a sitcom. Keep in mind I was about 10 at the time. John Astin (The Captain) muses over the huge load of TP he has received instead of ammo: :If these were torpedoes, we could wipe out the enemy..." LOL!
