I just got hold of the third season of this, one of my all-time favorite series, and I have to say it's a primer for how to ruin a good show. 1) change the name, 2) give your hero a side-kick (esp. one who has no charm or personality whatsoever), 3) make sure none of your on-going characters interact with each other in any meaningful way whatsoever.

First two seasons - one of the best TV dramas, Westerns, ever. Thrid season - pretty much the definition of "jumping the shark."
I'm posting episodes on youtube for anyone who is interested in seeing the show.
It is my favorite serie, I would like to know where can I buy or get it.
I like Eathan and all the advices John Taylor given.
Hi
Does anybody know where i can buy the entire series of paradise (guns of paradise) any info much appreciated
I loved Paradise, especially Lee Horsley. I named my son Ethan after his character. As much as I loved the show, it jumped in my opinion when they changed the name to Guns of Paradise and brought in that young cowboy (Steven somebody). It drew attention away from Ethan and that is why I watched the program. I always hated Amelia and prayed for her to be killed off every week. I especially loved the episode when they were getting married and at the last minute, it never happened. I jumped for joy! I saw the little boy who played Ben on the show on another one of Lee Horsley's shows (Bodies of Evidence). I thought he was the only kid on that show that could actually act. I often wonder what those 4 kids are up to. The last time I saw Lee he was a guest on "Touched by an Angel". I am hoping one day this show gets syndicated to the Western channel or TV land or something.
This was the best western since Gunsmoke. One of my favorite shows of the eighties. It never jumped, because it wasn't on long enough. Much better than Dr. Quinn, if CBS would have promoted it better, it would have lasted longer.
I found this a charming tv-version of the film. The period detail was nicely done -- with some convincing location work -- and Jodie Foster was quite good. And it was on just long enough to not overstay its welcome.
Never did jump. Sooo good. The whole family would stay home and watch it together. I agree with the poster who said it was better than Dr. Quinn. I liked Dr. Quinn but there was something different about this one...a feel that's hard to describe. Wholesome viewing, action without taking itself too seriously, romance without innuendo. Just a nice feel to it. Reminiscent of Young Riders (don't remember which came first). Loved Lee Horsley...where is he? And why do they keep taking away my favorite shows?
This was a great show and was never given time to jump the shark. It paved the way for Dr. Quinn, although this was the far superior show. I loved all of the characters, especially Amelia. I wish that a cable station would start showing the reruns. Unfortunately, there are probably not enough episodes to make it worth it to the network.
This much-overlooked, nicely done Western started out on Thursdays and did well enough to provide the final nail in one of the Spelling drama's coffins. Then, it was moved to Saturdays...where it still did OK in the 8pm "death" slot. But there were pre-emptions...lack of advertising...and then, the clinker: after going down to the wire, it's announced that the show will come back for a third season as a mid-season replacement, with a name change to Guns of Paradise, a new character, and losing the female lead (Sigrid Thornton) for the show's first two years.
I loved Paradise. I don't think it ever jumped, although I always wondered why Ethan didn't just take the kids and move, because the people in that town were terribly mean to him. Every week he saved Paradise from plague, famine or marauding outlaws, but those ungrateful SOB's would turn around and try to have him hanged or run out of town. For God's sake, man. Marry Amelia and get outta there. Still, it was a consistently good hour of T.V. The romance was good, Uncle Ethan was a hottie, and the relationship between he and the kids was very sweet. A high point was when Amelia's skanky soon-to-be-ex took off with her divorce papers.
Most people didn't know this show was on when it was running on CBS, thats how little publicity it got. Yet it was probably my favorite show of the 1980s and the best western since Gunsmoke left the air in 1975. A terrific cast headed by Lee Horsley and consistently good scripts made this an excellent series concerning a gunfighter given his late sister's five children to bring up. The first western to actually have the hero shoot and kill the villains. Most of the politically correct westerns since the 1960s usually had the hero shot the villain in the arm, hand, etc. When Lee shot them in this show, they stayed dead. Only lasted 2 1/2 years, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
CBS did not promote the show and kept pre empting the show for specials- it faded away but paved the way for Dr Quinn Medicine Woman I thought the show was entertaining--I love(d) westerns and this had gorgeous people in it. Dr Quinn was more successful-but I liked this show better.
I liked this show. I only hated the "Mrs. Lawson" character because she was so self-righteous. What ever happened to that adorable girl who played Ethan's niece. I think her name was Jenny Beck.
This show starred Lee Horsley and the story revolved around Horsley's desire to stay a retired gunfighter and raise his nieces and nephews. But of course there was always some nasty varmint that made him bring the old guns out. Really liked this show, never jumped, ratings just were never there.
