I was disappointed with the show because the movie was so fun. And yes, it was because parker posey was so different an actress and therefore the character was now somebody different. i like that brady bunch chick and all but a blonde goofball like that can't play the same role that the dark, witchy parker posey played. plus the writing was stupid.
At first the show seemed like it had potential, and even though Posey and Taylor ARE very different actresses, Taylor seemed to have the hippie-chic edge of Mary down pat. But then in the third episode they had the plot where the library where Mary worked was fighting against a more wealthy library for a medieval exhibit. Somehow Mary tried on a chastity belt and got stuck in it, so she turned the whole exhibit into some sort of medieval fashion runway show. Oh my GOD. Thank God this show died a fast death.
Does anyone remember where Lori got braces and every time she opened her mouth to sing, they would pick up a local radio signal? And there was something going on at the house (like filming or something) and she couldn't sing cause the radio would come blaring out of her mouth? God who ever wrote this crap should shut the garage door, turn on the car, and take a VERY long nap.
There wasn't enough time for Party Girl,a 1996 sitcom on Fox,to jump.It lasted only 4 episodes. The idea of the show came from a arthouse movie by the same name.It starred Parker Posey. The movie, and of course the TV show was different. The TV show had Christine Taylor of Hey Dude and The Brady Bunch Movie in the starring role.Taylor was and is a very pretty and talented actress and I would have loved to have seen more of Party Girl before it was cancelled. But the show relied on physical slapstick, something actresses don't do anymore, not since Laverne and Shirley anyway and as good as Taylor was at it the show overall quality just wasn't enough to keep it on the air.It was way too different from the movie as the actresses ,Posey and Taylor, were so different, like night and day really. The TV show couldn't appeal to critics the same way the movie did.The movie's appeal, however, should not have been what brought viewers to see the show.If you have seen Christine Taylor before, espically on "Ellen" you know how pretty she is(Seeing Christine Taylor next to Ellen Degeneres IS like day and night,Taylor so great,Ellen so ugly). Which is why the cancellation of Party Girl was so frustrating to begin with.
