Super Password, Password Plus...
Bert Convy congratulates celebrities for making good clues

Even though Super Password got rid of the rule banning opposites, it got stricter on using foreign words as clues. For instance, verde was allowed as a clue for "green" on P+, but SP sounded the illegal clue buzzer when someone used etre for the password "be."
Why is such a big deal made of the French/France episode? Ok, so Dick Martin gives an illegal clue, and then Dick Betty and Tom sort of have the giggles for the rest of the show. Its sort of amusing but whatever, its not like I haven't seen this on games shows before (Match Game) and since (Super). So why is this such an "infamous" episode (among people who watch game shows, that is, obviously most normal people would have no idea what I'm referring to)? I don't get it am I missing something?
The producers of "Million Dollar Password" ruined the game when they made all the rounds "lighting rounds" instead of the classic "10 points . . . 9 points . . .," etc.
Tony Randall the all-time king of celebrity game show players shone on this show and you usually won if he was on your side. The old version always suffered badly from putting the clues on the screen and so much information. The new version on Sundays is just bad and should be put out of its misery. The 6 slot in the ratings was a misprint. Any further analysis is a waste of time. My game show was Chain Reaction- easy to play along to, fun, great host, funny contestants but it got killed. At this point unless they come up with a great idea, I think the traditional game show is dead. But then the bald comedian who proved to be a dud in the several attempts to make the big money is a huge hit and so is Randy Jackson so maybe I"m not cool.
But I"d rather see elimination documentary fusion game shows at this point. The heyday of the game show seemed to come and go in the mid 70s and early 80s with Press Your Luck. Albeit Chain Reaction got it right and I loved playing along to it and then they had the nerve to cancel it. Anyway I think the next wave for the game show is the Internet and the viewer getting to play along in real time with the best internet people winning prizes. Or just keep up the elimination round documentary stuff like Hell's Kitchen. Although for season 5 they should have better chefs. Bobby has been working for 15 years and he is so lazy cooking because he is too busy showing us he is the 4 star General. I'm sorry was I supposed to be talking about Super Password- zzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Super Password jumped back with the reinstatement of opposite clues, when, durin' the years of 'Password Plus,' they were deemed 'illegal.' What the heck? What better way to convey a word, than to say the opposite of it? Peace.
Password never jumped the shark. I always loved that show. I am looking forward to the new CBS version.
Hope Betty White , Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence among others will guest here, along with some of today's stars.

I'm not looking forward to the new version with Regis Philbin, today's celebrities just don't know how to act and play right, they are WAY out of control, now in the past, good Game Show hosts like Bill Cullen, Jack Narz who both substituted, Tom Kennedy and Bert Convy were all good, but Allen Ludden will always be The King Of (Password)! Yes (Password) in the beginning was kind of boring, only a score up to 25 points, and the lightning round was not much, just a 60 second time clock of 5 Words, I never saw The ABC 1971-75 Version, only one episode on GSN and it was still pretty much played the same, but on (Password Plus) NBC 1979-82 it got better, There was now puzzles of 5 Words to play and an Alphabetics Jackpot of 10 words in 60 seconds to win The cash, on (Super Password) NBC 1984-89 It was much better, still pretty much played the same, but now a CASHWORD of 3 chances, and a growing Super Password Jackpot that kept growing from $5000, $55,000 and so on, I'd rather watch all these on GSN instead of that horrible revival coming up soon!
The new version of Password will probably jump the shark. Those big money game shows always have too many commercials. I can't imagine it to be done in Password. It better not have any suspense format where everything is too slow.
God help us. RR is right, CBS reports that Philbin will host the show to premiere in 2008 "with new twists and greater stakes."
Evidently game shows are "reality TV." I guess it's true. Maybe they'll do it in the nude?

Guess what?It looks like "Password "is coming back to TV.CBS will air it,,where it began in 1961,and it will be called "Million Dollar Password",and guess who is going to be the host?Regis Philbin.Yes,you heard me correctly:Regis is going to be the host. It's set to air,I've heard,in late 2007.They say it will be the same, but I don't know.Besides that, what is a semi-celebrity?Has anyone heard about plans for the new "Million Dollar Password"?
God, it just seems so long ago.
I loved the show.
It is very sad, but I think it was a victim of the dumbing down of America. The show required thought and wit. Real intelligence. Actually, the show required more of it's contestants than Jeopardy. You don't necessarily need to be smart to play Jeopardy, you just have to have a phenomenal memory.
Anyway, other glitzier, less erudite shows came along offering more money and contestant humiliation. Evidently, a lot of people like that sort of thing.
'Password' JTSed behind the scenes. It happened when the potential contestants weren't allowed to talk to the host. What in the world was wrong with just sayin' 'Hi,' to the hosts? Peace.
While "Super Password" was a solid update of "Password Plus", I think that hiring Bert Convy as host was a mistake. While he was a perfectly suitable fit for looser shows like "Tattletales" and "Win, Lose, or Draw", he just didn't have the type of commanding personality required for this show. All too often, he would forget the rules or let things get out of control. I thought that Tom Kennedy was a very good replacement for Allen Ludden - he brought a new energy to the show without losing grip of the game. Bill Cullen also did an admirable job during his fill-in stint. But Bert Convy just didn't cut it for me.
