To be honest, I never liked this show at all, I thought it was pretentious and tried way too hard to get a feel for "teen angst"
It bothered me that their idea of someone suppressing their freedom of expression, was a lame school radio station that played mainstream music...so they "fought" by playing non-mainstream bands on their own little pirate station, and complaining about things they didn't like... it just doesn't fit for me, I'm sorry. It just seemed like a bunch of b**chy annoying teens trying to be different by because that is what they thought was cool to do. I also couldn't stand Lily, I thought she was self absorbed, and she'd insult other people's musical abilities, making herself out to be something great, and yet her songs sucked, and she couldn't sing very well. Poor "The N" Degrassi is dying, they are rushing Instant Star off, and now all they are going to have left is re-runs of Zoey 101, Saved By the Bell, and this. I guess I'll find another channel.

When I actually recieved Noggin/The N on my cable provider in 2005, they were showing commercials for the RFR series finale.
It wasn't until Jan. 2008, when The N became its own channel, did they begin showing RFR again. I had never watched it before and all of a sudden I'm a complete addict. Then in the middle of Feb. 2008, they moved RFR's 3/330pm timeslot to one episode at 630am!!!! That is such BS! All "The N" is now is a sewage dump for cheesy, lame Nickelodeon shows like iCarly and old crap like Keenan & Kel.
I'm really mad about what's happening. There are only a few episodes on YouTube because Viacom pulled most of them down and I don't feel like spending a ton of money to get RFR on DVD.
Viacom better fix their act! MTV is horrible too. Just change it to PreteengirlTV already!!!!!

This show jumped when it became permanently stuck on the same storyline, and it was just the same thing over and over again. (Lily/Ray/Travis, Robbie and Kim)
The character of Lily changed drastically after season one (or season two depending on how you look at it). She became selfish, irritating and was a complete tease. She made the show difficult to watch. Luckily the other characters didn't become all sucky the way she did, that's how I was able to stand watching the show.
On a shallow note, I don't think in reality a guy like River Pierce would want to go out with Lily, not with that nose. But this is TV, so whatever.

Unlike your typical pile of dreck from "The N" this was actually watchable. The only flaws I could see were that every teen was a bit *too* prim and proper. Are you telling me teens in Canada *never* have sex before age 18 and *always* do the right thing? Even the so-called jerks of the show were relatively harmless caricatures of real jerks.
Oh, and Lily DID always try to portray herself as the victim, but that's actually realistic for teen girls.

Travis was a total waste of space that turned RFR into pretentious hot air whenever he was on. On top of that, the love triangle ended up killing what fun remained. Teen angst is fine but Travis's character took it way too far, especially since he was turned into the star of the show by the end of the first season.
I personally think this show didn't get a chance to jump the shark. It was cancelled so fast. I miss it. However if I had to think of a reason, Degrassi cameos would be it.
Lily had encouraged her best friend Audrey to go out with Travis and then encouraged Ray to fall for her but after all that she and Travis snuck behind Ray and Audrey's backs and got together- yet tried to to paint herself the victim. Don't even get me started on how she went after RFR's nemesis River- yet dissed Question Mark for his affection for Kim!
